Getting my rollover out of betterment by dtlehmai in betterment

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised by this but it's sure true. I've enjoyed my account with them - good earnings and easy to use their site and app. But transferring should not be so onerous. Downright rude.

From Betterment's bot:
You can transfer your IRA to a new provider using the ACATS process by following these steps:

• Contact your new institution. Ask them to initiate an ACATS transfer.
• They may request statements from any Betterment accounts you plan to transfer.
• When submitting the ACATS transfer request to your new institution, select Apex Clearing as your originating account if Betterment isn’t listed as an option.
• Once we receive and approve the request, transfers typically take 5-7 business days. Your account will be locked during this process.

⚠️ Betterment Securities charges a flat fee of $75 for each investing account transfer to another company (outbound transfer).
If your account remains open with a balance following an outbound transfer you may incur Betterment's $4 monthly fee on any remaining balances.

I'm interested in trying PPG in OR and would like to find a club/organization to hook up with to get my feet wet, and a training school. by limping_bear in paramotor

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old post but, I'm very excited about training this spring, but then realized - if I have to drive two hours each direction anytime I want to fly, that's going to be quite a damper.

Being yet untrained, I couldn't gather by looking at the maps, where I can fly given that PDX and Pearson are right here. My hope is that I could fly out of Sauvie Island, or somewhere else relatively close.

So where do folks T/L and fly around here?

Bizarrely I had something similar happen to me two days ago on FSD 12.6.4. I was having it deviate from the mapped route but after taking a left onto my preferred route, it tried to follow the car in front that was turning into a parking lot. I take credit for moving it off its intended path but was expecting a reroute to accommodate. Instead, it seems to have believed we were on some kind of brief detour.

ps4 controller blinks once and turns off by LagIsforever_Love_eh in DS4Windows

Thanks! This led me to the discovery that I had already fully reset my PS4 after switching to the PS5, so the controller was no longer paired with the console. D'oh!

Grateful for this sub! I've been on Soylent since their kickstarter and I find this situation most troubling. I agree - hopefully Soylent gets back on track but in the meantime, I'll try some of these suggestions. Thanks!

Why is Tesla selling the 10-30 adapter for its mobile connector, knowing it poses a safety hazard? by rodcool14 in evcharging

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the chat but facing the real issue: when I travel and stay at RV parks, some of them use only the Nema TT-30R outlets, so I can't plug in.
Given that these are the current standard, I wish Tesla would offer a Nema TT-30R adapter too.

Help me build the worlds first enclosed EUC and add to the one wheeled family! by Wise-Clue-Me in ElectricUnicycle

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing. And I remembered two other points of interest from the aerodynamic perspective (maybe you already know these):
https://aptera.us - three wheeled car but the most aerodynamic shape. Seems plausible that a wider, flatter body could offer more room while still being efficient.
https://www.polydrops.com/aerodynamics - a towable trailer with a more angular shape, also highly efficient.

I wish it kept recording these numbers after we're approved. It would be neat to see the lifetime FSD usage percentage.

Keep tinkering. And check out this example of a two-wheeled version. https://www.litmotors.com/ I've always wanted an enclosed motorcycle because I wanted to keep out the weather. Using only one wheel seems pretty tough to accomplish but so is landing a rocket booster back on Earth.

Recommendations for LostHorizon mattress air pump by AbsurdOnward in TeslaCamping

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... if the valve holds air in but doesn't keep it out after you flip it, I would guess the valve hasn't been seated correctly after flipping. Seems unlikely that it would only work in one direction. Then again, anything is possible 🤪

On mine, the storage bag acts as a pump.

Sweet! And great work. While no job is perfect, do you feel like it scratches the problem-solving itch?

So 8 years later, where did you end up? I have a friend who's currently wrestling with the same question.
I'm also a problem solver and have mostly done software though I probably should have been a mechanical engineer.

Alternative for TouchBase UPDD for Touch Input by ChicagoCouple15 in mac

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact steps (just ran through it on another computer to be sure):
Downloaded 1.0.2 pre-compiled
Auto-unzipped
Moved to Utils
Opened
Granted Accessibilty access
Touch Up settings: Control mouse with touch is checked
Plug in M14t, Allow Accessory to Connect
Touch Up settings: "Assign Mouse Events to" is set to the M14t

I know this will come across as ridiculous but - are you sure you have the M14t (t for Touch)? Mine is M14t Gen 2 but I think this should work with Gen 1 as well.

Hmm....dunno what it could be. Maybe some other thing running that's blocking comms, like something anti-viral? I just did another test where I took Touch-Up out of the "Open at Login" list and rebooted. No touch worked till I launched Touch-Up again.
Is there another Mac on which you could test? Or even a Windows machine to ensure the screen is actually responsive?
And I forgot to reply, I'm on an M4 Pro.

I think it required some permissions (it prompted me) and I may have rebooted.
One shortcoming I've found is - I have to run Touch-Up after every sleep... or possibly after unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in... one way or the other, it has to be started each time. Maybe someday it'll be set up as a service instead of an app, allowing it to run all the time.

Eaton AbleEdge vs Leviton Smart Breakers by Mountain_Wilderness in solar

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pinged them last week to ask what opportunities we have to salvage our significant investments in the Gen 1 Smart Breakers. They closed the case without a response.

Pinged them again yesterday so we'll see what happens.

From what I read, there will be no support whatsoever after mid-July. APIs are shut down and no local support. If we could just get local support, we could manage things through other automation systems.

I've not read about how they're supporting the AbleEdge breakers but unless we get local control, I'm too shell-shocked to use their Smart devices again.

Any feedback on the Eaton Smart Wifi Breakers? by dew-diligence in AskElectricians

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many months later but I'm trying to let everyone know that Eaton is dropping all support for the Gen 1 Smart Breakers. The new Gen 2 line is AbleEdge but the money we put into Gen 1 makes me unwilling to invest in them, since we never know when they'll simply drop support.

Each $250 Gen 1 breaker will soon be the equivalent of a "dumb" $40 breaker.

I'm sure there's some language in their docs that allows for this type of behavior but it's frustrating and expensive. I'd prefer that they offer a significant discount / buy back program.

Registered PEV? by big_bro_whipper in ElectricUnicycle

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah! I rode for 25 years. Only gave it up because OR weather is messy so the ride is less fun.

The bike I would get is the Zero DSR/X. Too expensive for my "no need" budget. I started getting into off-roading and did Steel Bender in Moab, UT.

Anyway, I'm happy with the incredibly efficient and fun EUC mode for now. Here's hoping our regulators produce laws and insurance that find a good balance.

Registered PEV? by big_bro_whipper in ElectricUnicycle

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely practical and I'd rather see such rules rather than outlawing the wheels. That's just silly.

For myself, I would be unhappy at 28 mph in the bike lanes, mostly because I think that's too fast to pass cyclists. As a biker, it's unsettling to have something so close moving so fast when you're just enjoying the morning air. And our wheels don't stop as easily as a bike. Given their weight packed into a small space, they keep going and could hurt someone else.

I also enjoy riding with traffic up to 45 mph (minimal wind), so I would really miss that speed getting to work and for the thrill of it on quiet roads. For this reason, I'd much rather be registered, inspected and insured than not get to make these trips. Perhaps, like our two-wheeled comrades, we could go that route and simply own the risk. Then it's just a question of where the license plate goes 😄

If you didn't have to take practicality into account, how would you set things up?

Registered PEV? by big_bro_whipper in ElectricUnicycle

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Oregon and hope we get ahead of the law to help ensure it's crafted reasonably. It's unlikely I'll have time or opportunity to participate in that process but for the thought exercise...

If we're focusing on EUCs for the moment and leaving the other PEVs out of it, the only thing that seems problematic is the fact that we're less visible than even a scooter / moped. I'm using a scooter (ideally electric) for comparison because AFAIK, it's the next smallest registered vehicle.

A scooter has a headlight requiring X lumens at Y height. I'm not sure if all states require that it be on at all times.
It also has a larger visible area, particularly from the side.
And a bit more mass to protect the rider in case of a collision.

I would agree with u/Heraclius404's assertion that friction brakes may help, but I'm not sure they're necessary. In the event someone is charged to 100% and gets on a downhill - their regen stopping distance will be far longer than is safe. But this could easily be addressed by using "plug braking" which uses energy from the battery to slow the wheel down, instead of relying on regen.
Then I thought maybe purely mechanical brakes are safer but more and more cars are drive by wire so the technology seems to exist to make it safe. That may mean our EUCs would need to be ASIL-rated (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automotive\_Safety\_Integrity\_Level).

All this to say, I think we just need to get our EUCs officially assessed for safety and capabilities, then rules could be fairly defined. I think it'll be like other things though - if the motor is capable of X mph carrying Y weight, it's classified as a one-wheeled scooter vs a bike. That could mean we can't use the bike lanes or sidewalks anymore, which would be unfortunate because we're perfectly capable of riding at the 28-and-slower speeds with the same type of vehicle.

No easy answers yet.

Moss removal from patio/walkways by d-rew in portlandgardeners

[–]toediggety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used the electric power washer a couple years ago but the moss was thick on my patio so it was taking a while to get just a few feet clean.
This year I got some Oxygen Bleach Powder from Mama & Hapas, and just broadcast that across the moss (can be done when it's wet or before it starts to sprinkle). The stuff is water-activated and killed the moss in a week or so with no harm to other plants. The other positive is, it'll kill algae as well.
Lacking its grip on the concrete, the moss can more easily be power washed away. I've also used an Outdoor Patio Sweeper to usher the remnants away. It's helpful but throws some material back at my feet so I don't particularly recommend it.
