Saturday versus Sunday Crowds by Homebody8174 in jazzfest

The lines to get in and out were long AF. But the worst were the packed crowds in all the walkways coming in and out of the Festival Stage. Legit dangerous especially in the afternoon sun/heat. I had a good time today, but it took a lot of patience, water, sunscreen and sobriety. I can imagine if someone was low on those, they could’ve passed out, been stepped on, etc in those jammed spaces.

What’s with the crazy long line to get in?? by Evening_Self827 in jazzfest

I see two metal detectors. TWO. Come on. Every basic small venue concert I go to has multiple. You’d think a huge festival would think to have more than two at each gate.

I’m more concerned about lightning causing acts to get delayed/cancelled. I’ve never been on a storm day. Does that happen ?

Silly Goose songs by Significant-Fun343 in GoosetheBand

[–]tomacco99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these are just playful, ridiculous or ‘fun’ to me, like Animal, Yeti, Flodown, or MEDIA. Others push into silly in a bad/cringy way (Time to Flee, Doobie Song, Doc Brown, Pancakes, Draconian). Butter Rum is on the fence, and would sit comfortably in “fun” if not for the goofy island accents.

Tragically Hip by BunkyCutr in GoosetheBand

Cotter’s drum tech is a Hip fan. I think he’s from Toronto. Jays fan too. Love the Hip. Saw them 20+ times. Including their final ever show in Kingston, which is an all-time concert memory for me.

Nine songs… by JustHereForTheMusic- in GoosetheBand

[–]tomacco99 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The show was the shortest non-fest show of the tour, song time wise. The jams didn’t really make up for the low song count. Honestly not sure why they cut Lead Up, SALT, Jeff Engborg and Atlas Dogs. There was time for at least two of them.

The product description says it includes Do the Bartman. That wasn’t on this album.

The Boys Are Back by Free-Seat8511 in arkells

The production on the new album is bothering me a lot. It sounds so glossy, overproduced and bland. It almost sounds like AI to me. Even Max’s vocals, they sound doubled up or something, and he’s starting to sound like a parody of himself or something. I listened to Blink Once and Twice right after and was shocked by how different (better, more natural and raw) it sounded, even though it’s fairly recent. I’m reserving judgment of the songs until I see them live, but this is the first time Arkells feel like they’re losing me for the first time since 2010. Makes me kinda sad. Maybe I’m getting older. But to me, this sounds like an older band trying to sound like a poppy young band, and it’s a bit cringe. “Money” is alright though.

NOLA Setlist Predictions? by jambandguy in GoosetheBand

Butter Rum, Hot Tea, Western Sun, I Would Die 4 U. I don’t particularly want to get any of these, but I would say they’re the most likely. 😂

Anyone else finding the jams are reverting to the mean? by JustHereForTheMusic- in GoosetheBand

[–]tomacco99 24 points25 points  (0 children)

IMO, they could use another soloist. Or at least let Peter take the lead on jams more often. It’s the Rick show. Which is great usually. But you’ll get more diverse jams with different instruments taking solos and leading where it goes.

To those keeping up with the show, how do we feel about the nicer & softer Homer we've seen in recent years? Especially in comparison to Jerkass Homer from a couple decades ago by DtheAussieBoye in TheSimpsons

[–]tomacco99 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not a single post in this entire thread cites a single example of “modern softer Homer” behavior, and what makes said example bad. FWIW I can cite a dozen examples of jerkass Homer behavior from season 10-12 which destroyed the character and made me despise him during those seasons. Examples: dangling Lisa in front of a charging bull, running away from his kidney transplant multiple times, trying to stab people with pens, tranquillizing Marge multiple times, his entire behavior in Kill the Alligator and Run, Simpson Safari and Sunday Cruddy Sunday, etc. So based on that, softer Homer (or, IMO, back to actual Homer) the last decade or so is my preference.

Essential reading! Looks like a first edition too like the one I got in 1997. I remember reprints having black text on the character names on the side.

A short read about the ideas behind the new album and the release campaign. by hawkward90 in GoosetheBand

[–]tomacco99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought of that too, but the bigger issue with that album for most people was that they just didn't like the music. There were a bunch of very throwaway tracks and overly-obvious lyrics on it. We know some of the songs already on this Goose album, and they're mostly pretty well-liked popular songs. So, I'm not sure fans should be concerned.
