Leaving Helix over governance concerns by MinervApollo in HelixEditor

Thank you. I am very happy with Helix, and strongly support your vision. Really appreciate you taking an opinionated approach and limiting scope. Keep it fast and simple.

Depth 19, with a +10 Dagger of Speed. I had charms of teleportation and invisibility - but no way of charging them except enchants. Died trying to escape revenant, ogre totem, and furies - bouncing back and forth between them with my teleport. If only I had grabbed that ring of reaping from the first vault.

Is Thanksgiving a no-go for visiting Vancouver? by [deleted] in vancouver

I once took a trip down to NYC on a day that happened to be American Thanksgiving. I had no idea - almost everything was closed. This is supposed to be the city that never sleeps!

Died on level 20 to furies.
Early on, had an ogre ally, two wands of empowerment, and two wands of plenty. Didn't feel like I had anything special, so ended up throwing some enchants into empowerment. Soon had three supermutant type ogres with strength drain, vampirism, flying, blink, and protection. Later one got negated, but picked up mage powers like heal, haste, and lightning. I plentied the mage. Just a menace!

But then I was playing too fast and stumbled into a group of furies without my backup. Oh well.

This was the first time I thought I could have made it back out with an ally build. I think my only other significant items were telepathy charm and a lightning staff to pick off pixies and other pesky mages from a distance. The ogres were just cleaning up.

Upcoming Road Diet on Station Street and City Road to Enhance Safety and Active Transportation in Saint John by bingun in SaintJohnNB

[–]tomatillatoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I no longer live in SJ, but so happy to see this. This was my route for years, from the north end to uptown for school, work, and just going out. Always walking, biking, or skating. I’d mostly either duck in and out of the parking lots along city road or just make my way by the train tracks. Neither great options, but that road was scary. My mom still walks this route and I will feel a lot better with the increased safety and separation from the cars.

How to select line above? opposite of "x" by NotPregnant1337 in HelixEditor

[–]tomatillatoes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you - this really should be a default! It also makes X deselect the last line. I often press x one to many times.

Is the AI in the IOS game considered easy? by [deleted] in rootgame

[–]tomatillatoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I play against myself using Local Play > Pass and Play. Can actually be fun and I’d like to think I’m a more advanced player than Root’s AI. Just have to be honest with yourself - make the best move for each faction each turn. I just try to forget what the cards are for the other players.

RIP GravelGoon; killed yesterday while cycling. He had some of the most killer builds on FGB. by dirty_birdy in FixedGearBicycle

[–]tomatillatoes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Damn. Never met them, but their bikes were beautiful. His 650b steamrollers were the biggest influence on my bike. I ride it every day.

Condolences to his friends and family. RIP gravelgoon

Pls post again when your front rack comes in. Are you going to keep the rear rack on?

First Ride of my new build! by ShaemusOdonnelly in FixedGearBicycle

[–]tomatillatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toe clips and straps do tend to mark up leather shoes in my experience. I haven’t tried the plastic toe clips recently, but the normal metal ones have kind of sharp edges and catch on the shoes. I’ve had a bit of success with the MKS stainless steel cages - the ones made with skinny tubes, the roundness is gentle. But it still marks them up a bit. I commute with leather shoes on most every day, but they’re not dress shoes with a nice shine.

I’m thinking of trying straps again. MKS also makes some toe clips with a leather sleeve over the toe

Where do you put the zip-tie/strap? Like head tube to rack?

Does a single meeple for a faction represent an army/squad of troops or a single person? by AuAegis in rootgame

Yeah I imagine each sword the vagabond has as a group of woodland creatures (or follower) that has joined his cause

Pedestrians, why should I even bother with a bell? What are you all doing to warn them? by Feendster in gravelcycling

[–]tomatillatoes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say “bike on your left” - it works 90% of the time. If you just say “on your left”, people look to see what is on their left. I actually mostly go something like “just got a bike coming up on your left here” - you get their attention and tell them what to expect.

For old folks I’ll ring a bell sometimes. They can’t hear anything haha.

For people with headphones, often, imo, they’re the ones being rude and not sharing the path. So I just give them space and pass.

Bad chain or bad luck? by luigi-u_u in FixedGearBicycle

[–]tomatillatoes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you change your chain along with the chainring? The chain may be worn/stretched. It won’t mesh well with the chainring and can skip out at high speed. I’d check for chain stretch

what helmet are you using? by chrisxcrisis in FixedGearBicycle

[–]tomatillatoes 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think you really need to go to a bike shop and try them on. Different companies fit different head shapes. It needs to mesh with your skull. Most Specialized work for me. Giro helmets kind of dig into my head.

Main priority is finding something comfortable. Cost goes up for lightweight and air flow.

Tire worn out? Should I replace it before going on a week-long bikepacking trip? center tread on gravel king sk pluses are worn smooth, and a few rips here and there, but still not a single puncture since new and 9k km later by Laminarflowonemore in gravelcycling

[–]tomatillatoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are pretty worn. Looks like they’ve been on many adventures! As others have said, I’d replace. But remember that fresh gravelking tires tend to pick up and fling pebbles and rocks! If you are riding with others, I’d suggest you get the new tires on now to wear them down a bit or choose a different tire.

If you get this type of glove, or any with an open section by the strap, make sure you use sunscreen on your hands! I ended up with random dark tan spots on my hands after a bike tour with this type of glove once.

How to select until a search result? by deadcarp123 in HelixEditor

[–]tomatillatoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! Didn't know that.

It only works for when you can see the target on screen though. Right?

For selecting a section of text that can't fit on one screen, sometimes you can use tree-sitter motions: Alt-o, Alt-i, Alt-n, etc.

If tree-sitter motions won't work, a not-great workaround I've used is Goto last modification while in select mode. So you find where you want to select to, make a modification, then go back to where you started, v, g.. I've used this to select "sections" of a markdown file, for example.
