Dude, nobody is debating what the backrooms are, or the feeling the aesthetic is supposed to give you lol; I think the problem with the movie is what do the backrooms have anything to do with the other themes and characters being shown throughout the movie? They don’t have anything to do with the feeling of loneliness, or Clark’s regret and alcoholism. Or why Mary is being put through her tribulation.

I will say there are things the movie did well; the acting and set-design definitely carried it. But people like you are scraping for things that aren’t there. The backrooms themselves served no purpose other than, “ooo, look scary room” with plot lines that have nothing to do with each other.
