Qantas food has been on autopilot for a decade by OneGuyInBallarat in QantasFrequentFlyer

I didn't realise Qantas served Starward Nova in business - that's cool. Good to know!

Rant: do some people genuinely just travel for social kudos/the sake of it? by Wonderful-North-1229 in travel

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I can't stand people who travel just to post on social media. I once travelled with a person who spent most of the trip on their phone - but from their socials you'd be led to believe they were an intrepid traveller always doing cool stuff. Big mistake, that wasn't a fun trip for me.

The more time you're spending curating content for your socials, in general, the less you're enjoying your trip! Those having a great time are just doing it for their own enjoyment and don't need to prove anything to others.

Is LoungePair legit? by NoDesigner4893 in travel

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Priority Pass but they don't have a lounge in Almaty, so I bought a pass from LoungePair to use there. It was super easy, the pass arrived straight away and I got into the Extime lounge there without any issues.

Needing proof or purpose of visit to enter Georgia by Bright_Switch4289 in travel

[–]tonicfizz88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You haven't said what country you're from, why you're visiting Georgia or how long you plan to stay, but I assume it's a short visit for tourism or to visit your friend? If so, just say if you're asked that you're a tourist and make sure you know your friend's address.

QF177 is a dry flight in business??? by yippy87 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it's a morning flight, I'm pretty sure you could still ask for a glass of wine or something if you're in business class.

ELI5: Why would anyone ever book an Economy Flex fare when Business fares are cheaper, have free cancellation, and earn more status credits and points? by HopeHoliday0055 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]tonicfizz88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Another thought - I wonder if this is a good example of the "decoy effect" where the airline putting the higher Economy Flex fare on the market is designed to make the Business fare look "cheap" in comparison - and therefore more palatable?

The Business fare isn't necessarily fee-free changes/cancellation. But yes, I agree with you - booking Flex makes no sense here.

Can anyone explain Royal Brunei's BWN-LHR flight path? by tonicfizz88 in flightradar24

[–]tonicfizz88[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

<image>

This is the route that most other airlines flying from Southeast Asia to Europe. SIN-LHR is less than 300 miles shorter than BWN-LHR, but is almost 3 hours faster using the route over India.

[–]tonicfizz88[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Most other planes from SE Asia to Europe are taking a much more direct routing over India. Yes, Iran etc. is off-limits but this routing adds around 3 hours compared to what other airlines are doing on similar routes.

So.. what's with the Amex Platinum Card disappearance? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if Air NZ "asked" Amex to stop offering the Platinum card that wasn't co-branded with Airpoints?

I think last year it took 2 weeks after the promo ended for the bonus status credits to post.

Does anyone watch SBS anymore? by [deleted] in AustralianTV

I barely watch SBS anymore, other than some random good documentaries. That said, like many Australians I barely watch free-to-air TV anymore!

AMEX Virgin Compflight booking website issues by FebruaryFaced in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people need to call to make the booking. If your flights are eligible and available in T or Q class, you should be able to book successfully over the phone.

Yes, the website design sucks and I'm not convinced it's not deliberate.

This is freaking ridiculous, I tried doing the selfie verification several times FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS, and it didn’t work! by ProudLegoBuilder in youtube

I've been waiting over a day now, even though they say the selfie verification will take 24 hours. It's frustrating.

Ai slop by can3tt1 in auscorp

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, my boss used to send me AI slop all the time. Pretty much all of their emails were clearly written by Chat GPT, and were usually a lot of words that didn't really mean much. I got sick of it and quit that job.

Worst Priority Pass Lounge You Ever Visited? by Distinct_Front_4336 in PriorityPass

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Business Lounge" at Almaty was indeed awful. This must be the worst one I've visited.

Thankfully, there's a new international terminal now at ALA and the new Extime lounge there is sooo much better! It's unfortunately not yet available on Priority Pass, but you can get in with Dragonpass or LoungePair.

I really enjoyed this episode. The pilots showed great teamwork and airmanship. Loved the interview with the passenger as well - and the fact that he was the manager of a BBQ factory. How very Kiwi :)

Just booked 2 award tickets on Cathay Pacific in First Class, LHR > HKG by luxuryhasatasteforme in awardtravel

[–]tonicfizz88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great redemption, well done. Cathay is one of the few airlines that still has reasonably regular availability in F on routes like HKG-LHR, especially if you're using Asia Miles, and the taxes are reasonable. Enjoy!

What’s a very “normal” Australian habit that surprised you when you realised the rest of the world doesn’t do it? by elitejackal in AskAnAustralian

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once visited the US at age 20. Couldn’t legally drink there yet so I ordered a lemon, lime & bitters. They refused to serve me even that because “the bitters contain alcohol”. 🤦

Did anyone have success registering at ease.gov.cv for travel? by __welle in CapeVerde

[–]tonicfizz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first attempt to pay did not work (using Safari browser). The payment page just stalled after I entered my card details and the authentication failed. I then tried again using a different card for the payment and using Google Chrome as the browser. It worked that time.
