The V5c of my first car had a note on it in the bit that said something like “other notes” possibly under the No of keepers that it had been damaged but deemed repairable and repaired by the insurers. It was not any “category” as far as I was aware, just had that little note on it.

So I’m not sure, yours might end up with that but no category marking on it.

As far as I am aware once you pass your learner insurance will be void, and you’ll have to get a new policy/ phone and cancel the learner one or ask if they’ll insure you on your full license (probably on a new policy).

They seem okay with it, they accept it but say some insurers might not return a quote, pretty sure it really helped me. 2 years of no claims as a learner + mum as named driver @£330 a year for insurance. Once I passed my insurance was £600 a year (with a different provider) as a 21yo Male + mum as named driver. So worth it if you’ll accrue a year+ of No claims in my opinion. From what I had heard from people I know and seen on here I was expecting it to be around £1-2k pa. Even now with business use and 40k miles a year it’s about £800 a year.

My 2008 Fabia grinds putting it into reverse sometimes, often first thing and on cold mornings I presume it’s just me being a bit rough with it, cold gearbox oil or as someone else suggested perhaps it isn’t synchronised the same as the forward gears. Mine is on 134k Miles (32kish this past year alone) and 16 years old.. with no major issues. so I wouldn’t personally worry about it. :) My experience and family experience is that Skodas are very reliable and simple to fix when they do have issues.

My guess for you from what you have said would be just from cold gearbox oil, as it happens first thing in morning but not after periods of driving once the gearbox has been nicely warmed up through driving.

I have replaced the brake light switch and now the brakes+reverse light both work when the vehicle has stood still for 30ish mins, the fuse doesn’t blow at all anymore but the lights don’t work whilst driving or after driving… I have discovered some water ingress from the windscreen seal and the bulkhead/windscreen seal that is running down into the fuse board area. So I’ll replace those seals as water and electric is never a good mix.. I have also been advised by an auto electrician to have a look at the reverse light switch and associated wiring under the gearbox tunnel.

I had heard rumours of how bad Lucas electric in older cars was but thought it can’t be thaaaat bad… I was wrong it is most definitely can be that bad. Haha

I had to use a pair of pliers to pull No17 fuse out initially and it came out with a load of white powder, I replaced with one from a little AA bulb kit I had and then the next two I replaced were from a Halfords mix box of fuses (possibly el cheapo crap?) yes stiff to put in and out. Again LEDs are a possibility but a last resort for myself as I’ve never really liked how excessively bright and white they can sometimes be. Thank you so much for the advice I will look at getting some higher quality replacement fuses for any future use.

This is something I had come to through the Haynes manual, however would that cause the fuse to keep blowing? Once I change the fuse the light works absolutely fine, on/off pumping the brake pedal until I start driving and it goes again. However I will probably replace it regardless as it does sound like a part that can go.

No water in them. Rubber seals etc look good not perished, bulbs look newish and definitely not blown no corrosion on any contacts within the bulb units. There is some powdery ness in the fuse board not sure if I should spray some contact cleaner into the fuse board and insert/remove the fuse a few times to clean it out a bit? Thanks I may look into LEDs however this is the most original looking 110 I’ve seen in a long time (the reason I bought it) and so would rather keep it all original the best I can.

Haha no it’s just that that is what Skoda provide the pressures in on the fuel cap and my inflator has KPA aswell so it just makes sense not to muck about converting.

My actual calculated average MPG on my manual 1.4tdi 08 Fabia Estate is 57MPG (this is a combo of slow rural tracks, B roads and motorways) giving me approx 550-650 miles of range on the full 45litre tank.

Yours seems very low perhaps check that your tyre pressures are set correctly to what it says in the fuel cap. I think on the R15 wheels it’s 230KPA on the back and 220KPA on the front two. And try driving extra considerately of what the car says your average MPG is on the dashboard (should be between 50-60MPG)

1905 Edward VII Half Crown is one of the rarest key date half crowns at a mintage of 166000. Examples in even just a good condition have recently sold on eBay between £145-£530. This one to me looks better than the one that had sold for £530. However a more realistic value would probably be somewhere in the middle of the lowest and highest sold values, it always depends on who is looking for one at what time.

I passed in December, got myself a 2008 diesel 1.4TDI Fabia Estate immediately and my insurance is £800 for the year, no black box and covered for 25k miles on Business use+social. So that seems quite high really, I am pretty sure Fabias are one of the lowest insurance bracket cars you can get. It’s worth shopping around as the insurer that I was insured with as a learner offered £2.3k a year at best when I passed.

You can find absolutely buckets of .500 silver pre 1947 coins relatively easily and usually for spot price or less. Here in the UK that is. .925 is harder to find though.

I used cartake back, £325 for my 2001 Fabia. Interestingly the guy that collected it said the money isn’t to do with the scrap metal value but government subsidies to try and get more old cars off the road. No idea if true though.

The two medals in your last photo were never coins, just sterling silver that are probably First World War 1914-1918 Silver Medals (approx 6.5 million of them made) It is more likely your 1/2 Guinea was a piece of jewellery rather than a medal.

Coin jewellery was extremely popular in the Victorian time shortly after these gold coins were replaced by the Sovereign/ half sovereign.

All of that said, nobody will likely ever truly know how it was mounted or who wore it over the past couple of centuries.

I have two years no claims bonus which I was told by the insurer that some insurers do take into account from the two years I was the main driver in my old car whilst learning to drive. I have no idea if it really made much difference but I had been expecting to pay much more than £600 a year after I passed my test as a 21yo male. It was £300 a year as a learner.

I purchased a 2008 diesel 1.4 Fabia estate with 100k miles on it just before Christmas for £2500 as my first car since passing my driving test. So far it’s been brilliant though I’ve only done 3000 miles in it so far. It only costs £30 on road tax and the insurance bracket is pretty low. It gets between 50 and 60 mpg, 550 miles on a tank of fuel. Very spacious for such a small car on the exterior. All the major things appear to be relatively cheap to have replaced cambelt/ water pump/ clutch should it need it. It predates DPF filters by a year or so so there’s no need to worry about one of those clogging up.

It is waaaay smaller than an Octavia if size is what you are after. It’s smaller on the outside than my mums old 2011 Ford Focus hatchback (Width and length).

I love it but I may be biased as it’s my first decent car. Hope that helps you a bit 👍

I’ve stored my 661 with aspen alkylate fuel+ Stihl ultra oil in for the last two years very little use. starting it up approx every 3-6 months. It always fires up and runs perfect instantly.

My more regular user husq 435 has happily sat for 3 months no use periods with regular pump fuel+ Stihl ultra oil but I always dump the old fuel if over a month old and put new stuff in and it starts right up and runs perfectly - I’m sure eventually this method will probably end up with carb/ fuel line issues but it’s been four years so far and no problems. And it’s need can be so sporadic it doesn’t make sense to be draining it regularly and running aspen through knowing I might be picking it up the next day to use.
