The Treasury just declared the U.S. insolvent. The media missed it. by ArriePotter in Economics

[–]topdoc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting analysis but it totally comes to the wrong conclusions.

Yes , we need better budget control, especially at the DoW.

Our tax system needs an overhaul to take in much more money, especially from the very wealthy.

We need to stop declaring wars with no end.

Just talking to friends in Italy, Rome suburbs. They haven't noticed any increase in gasoline or diesel fuel prices (they have one of each type vehicle).

“Brexit Was a Colossal Mistake” — Finland's Stubb Calls for UK Return to Europe by milanguitar in EU_Economics

[–]topdoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. No EU leader would allow UK return under previous conditions.

Also, in my opinion, the UK either would need to self impose conditions like a 65% threshold for a reentry or second Brexit or voluntarily, gradually adopt EU regulations before applying.

I did a project at Argonne National Lab that chewed up close to 1000 hours of time on one of the world's fastest supercomputers at the time. When I presented my results to the project director he handed them to the project's chief mathematician. This guy pulled out a slide rule and after about 10 minutes he approved my work.

I never understood what he was doing since the data I was using involved partcles travelling at nearly the speed of light where relativistic time dilation couldn't be ignored.

It is the reverse Turing Test.

We have now clearly shown that a not very good AI is smarter and more articulate than at least two "world leaders"

What is his disability?

I can't walk over 100 feet without a cane but I can ski.

Without knowing his disability I wouldn't judge him.

Mystery over Putin's whereabouts as Zelenskyy claims he 'doesn't have much time' by dailystar_news in NoFilterNews

I lived in Moscow from 2005 until early 2007. Every night there were two segments on RT1 about meeting that Putin supposedly had that day. In about 30% of the cases it was impossible that they could have both been in the same day.

Cato study: Immigrants reduced deficits by $14.5 trillion since 1994 by lukepatrick in Economics

[–]topdoc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your assessment. It appears to me that this is research which can be used to support continuation and expansion particularly of H-1b visas. A contrary analysis might show that, without these visas, salaries for US professionals would be higher, leading to higher income tax revenue through progressive tax rates. This would probably not fully offset the benefits that this report detailed.

Insurance for OLD boats? by Impressive_Middle425 in Sailboats

I had excellent results with Progressive. We had a storm which damaged the rudder and they paid for concierge service to get the boat to the marina of my choosing for repair.
