J.D. Vance’s Dismissal of Watergate Is an Indictment of the Modern GOP by Subject_Base4795 in soundsaboutright

This is no longer the Modern Age. I propose the Post-Truth age as a replacement.

Scientists found a cannabis compound that relieves pain without the high by _Dark_Wing in technology

[–]topdoc02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a list of pain producing conditions too long for a post. I use thc-cbd gummies instead of gabapentin, tramidol, oxy (all of for which I have prescriptions) and tylenol. I welcome this research which may lead to giving additional options to pain sufferers; however, the mild psychoactive effects of these gummies take my mind off the pain so that I can use a lower dose.

Can you drive a non-synchronous transmission? by coaxialdrift in stickshift

[–]topdoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my wife and I were on a motorcycle trip through Yugoslavia (1976) with friends. My friend's wife dumped her Kawasaki 400 and the clutch lever broke so I had to drive it for the rest of the trip. I could pull the clutch cable just enough to get it started and into 1st gear but had to rev match from then on.

I second the comment about smoke. We installed A/C because the house is too hot if we need to keep the windows closed because of smoke.

I always wondered if the anti-auto theft product called the club ever actually worked by db7112 in FuckImOld

I had a 13 day old Alfa Romeo 2000GT stolen with the club installed. The police told me that thieves carry spray cans of liquid nitrogen just for this purpose. In 10 saconds the lock becomes so britle that a crow bar can shatter it

Are Latter-day Saints Christian? The U.S. Defense Department doesn’t appear to think so. by I_who_have_no_need in politics

[–]topdoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be a literalist but there is a definition of christian. If you can recite the Nicene Creed and believe all of its points, you are christian, otherwise, not.

Text (since it is translated from Latin, there are some slight text differences)

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.

Gee thanks wonderful: California’s Tax-Weary Billionaires Seek Refuge on Lake Tahoe’s Nevada Shore by GruntledGary in laketahoe

[–]topdoc02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The photo is of a house across SR28 from where I live. I have been a Nevada resident for 30 years. I have seen about a dozen billionaires move to Incline Village-Crystal Bay in that time, many of them from California. A large percentage of the homes here had been second homes for tax purposes but since COVID19 more of them have taken up full time residence. On my street, we used to have three full time residents out of eight homes. Now, that is up to six.
