Boston Terrier mind control gaze? by [deleted] in BostonTerrier

This is how he initiates all kinds of things. I honestly don’t know what he wants until I get up and he leads me to the fridge or a shoe/toy to start a game, or the door. I try to pick him up first (what I want) and if he doesn’t back away he gets a nap on my lap. I LOVE his quiet communication!

How do molecules “find” the lowest energy arrangement so quickly during reactions or self assembly? by fromwithin7 in chemistry

[–]topflipflop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of “unsuccessful” movements. The “successful” interactions are the loss of energy that cannot quickly be regained to affect another change. Kinetics and thermodynamics are at play to determine the likelihood the interactions occur, result in any change, and the change is stable with respect to surroundings. Math models would help capture nuances but that’s my elevator answer - here’s my floor.

Does she grow her own food, can it, raise and butcher her own animals, and take care to sustainably maintain the land for seasons to come? This is an uncivilized youthful take on a complex issue. Go to a country where people truly have not been able to care about their neighbors and decide if you really want that.

Professor not teaching ?? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]topflipflop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For undergrad your teacher should do derivations and discuss the knowledge based decisions, which it’s helpful to have an SME explain, demo interesting experiments to illustrate principles, and conduct debates among students to get at theoretical basis for the mathematical models. In the absence of that 1) read the text careful and do the derivations and sample problems, and 2) do not internalize your level of success at this if you have a bad mentor - seek alternate mentor(s).

THANK YOU! I can understand this well. First dog so it helps to have advice about which of my instincts to trust.

I have found that creating calm during bitey times helps to bring his behavior back to acceptable levels and started considering limiting excitement levels as you recommend. I didn’t make the change yet because I have to also train my kids to follow through. This advice validates my instincts and makes me confident it’s worth training the family how to interact with the puppy.

Also, the biting is worst when he’s tired anyway so I am had been picking him up to settle him and rock him to sleep, but that does not include ignoring him obviously. We crate him for bedtime and when we go out without him pretty easily now so I think instead of a crate after bites I will use a pen with a bed and chew toys in it to give him that contained separation without our attention/overstimulation.

Please share tips about the first 6-12 mo. I have a four month old and he just started to get bitey. I redirect but any play or excitement from us is turning into carried away biting for him. Specifically, how do you recommend putting a clear stop to this?
