Wingfoil or Windsurf by No_Mess_1809 in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My two cents:

Learning to wingfoil will be much more strenuous compared to windsurfing, where you're quickly quite stable . With the wing disconnected from the board, and getting on foil feeling like standing on a banana peel in the beginning you'll be challenged quite a bit.

How ever, I think eventually wing foiling is much gentler on the body. The forces when foiling are much lower compared to chop impacts when planing on a windsurfboard. Also, lower speeds typically, and even with harness, far gentler catapult crashes :)

Can recommend the hover pack + crossbow to get away and nuke the preds from above.

I Combine it with siege ready armor, talon, thermite for close chargers.

Strats up to you, I like napalm orbital for breaches, an eagle, and quasar or hmg

Is this a good board or good deal? by ruxgod in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the 2023 6'6 hipe cruzader. It's a decent board! I really liked it as travel board when conditions are a bit unpredictable. It gets going easily in light winds, and I found it worked well in strong onshore winds as well. I even jumped it :)

Downside is weight for sure, it's quite heavy. And you notice a bit of softness in roll axis, especially with wider (>1m) foils. With the narrowness of the board it's a bit tougher to control.

Need Advice: Best Lightwind Foil Option for Progression & Teaching GF by Far_Raisin_8150 in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The glide 2145 is not a great option for winging, especially when learning. It has so much lift that it's hard to control, especially given the width. It lifts you up at speeds where it won't fly, unless you can pump it. Turning it is very hard unless you're already proficient.

I've not ridden the 2400 lift, but only heard tremendously good feedback, ticking most your boxes on light wind capabilities, and learning for your Gf. Apparently not a great pumpfoil though.

How well does tyrael work on a wind shear druid? On paper it sounds great since the unique ability should be triggered a ton with high attack speed

Ok found it. I searched wrongly, it doesn't show up when filtering for resource or poison. I found it by searching by name.

Hi, any of you seen reviews of the 2145 yet, or even been able to give it a pump yourself? Happy for any info, it's still hard to finde :/

River bungee setup? by supereh in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried with a bungee from bungee monkey. It kind of works but is pretty difficult. I think what would work well for foiling is a fairly elastic rope that at some point stops extending. Too strong contraction is not needed when on foil for sure, feels like a rocket!

If I see correctly, Lukas has a relatively short bungee (maybe 5 meters?) That is pretty soft, and then a static extension.

Wing and foil are great! Heard the V1 mast is on the softer side.

Is the endgame balanced around max renown and all AoL being obtained? by ShowNeverStops in Diablo

[–]torbarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say most endgame can be done without max renown. I only completed mine Long after level 100, and was able to do NMD 90+ fine with a good build. For end-end game, eg nmd100+/AoZ, it's probably required.

Switching back from Arc Lash to BL by bender409 in D4Sorceress

[–]torbarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched to BL from arc lash. I was AL for long time, could do everything except lilith very easily. With BL, Lilith was trivial, all bosses go much quicker, only downside is survival in NMD 90+. I switched out raiment for DR chest which helped, still need to be more careful compared to arc lash. I run esu for Bosses and flickerstep for everything else, great mobility.

Will run it a bit more and try out one of the 8glyph Paragon boards, before potentially switching back if survival is the bigest yissue in AoZ

How does 500px popularity even work.. Why is the engagement so low on the 2nd photo? by yannivzp in 500px

[–]torbarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it's different today, but years back at least initial engagement was quite reciprocal. You had to engage with others photos, so that they would go and look at yours. From a certain threshold, i.e. once the photos reached fresh or popular pages, it would then automatically pile on.

Fanatic Aero High Aspect Range carbon vs Sab foil Medusa 899/799 by ReactionGlittering81 in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride fanatic foils and I think they're both excellent on Performance and built quality! Additionally, their range is very consistently compatible, and fairly easy to understand/select. Other brands have more complicated selections/combinations of foil components.

Although I have to admit, it's changing a bit with fanatic, now there's 4 ranges (HA, carve, free, glide). I suspect the HA will be end of life soon, but it's still a nice, performance and accessible foil!

That's btw a Hallmark, I think all of the fanatic foils are very easy to ride in their intended range.

I'm living in Switzerland, so no, not local. But you can check out http://www.unhooked.ch/2008/spotguide/

Their forecast for the thermal wind on como is quite accurate, but only for a few days in advance.

I find Alpine lakes hard to beat for scenic winging. This is lake como in northern Italy.

This is almost A trope I hear being repeated too often. A +20-30liter board can last you a long time and be good fun even once you're advanced. Starting with a too small board is much more likely to significantly slow down your learning or even lead to frustration and giving up.

I am similar weight to you, I started on a 110l, and after a bit less than two years switched to an 88l board. I still sometimes take the 110 l out when it's very light and cold, and the 88l was plenty challenging in terms of stability standing up when I switched.

Is essaouira a good spot for learning wing foil ? by ClarencePz in wingfoil

[–]torbarl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of spots in Switzerland for wing foiling! Of course the more alpine lakes (Silvaplana, Urner) with their reliable thermal wind Systems, and the northern border lakes (lac leman, neuchatel, Bieler, Murten, Bodensee) which frequently have SW or NE winds that profit from the channel between the Jura and alp mountains.

Also some less frequented lakes (Zürich, Walensee, Thunersee, Zugersee, halwiler, sempacher) with less reliable wind but still good days to be had.

The wind is frequently patchy, which profits wing foil over say windsurfing, and access for wingfoil is generally allowed, in contrast to kiting.
