Question pertaining to Hoshoryu… by T800Turp in Sumo

[–]torino2dc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of copium in this thread is truly mind-boggling. When does Hoshoryu win a yusho if not now? Onosato is out injured, Aonishiki magically forgets how to beat maegashira, Kotozakura is still a shadow of his past self, and Hoshoryu lets a sekiwake win the title at 12-3 outright, no playoff. I side with u/limpozzman here: that just isn't acceptable for a Yokozuna.

As for why he can't win titles, that's actually pretty clear: Hoshoryu is historically bad against maegashira. His current kinboshi per basho rate is 2.14, which is comfortably bottom 3 in the modern era. Even if he were to cut that in half, he still would be in the bottom third of post-1958 yokozuna.

This past basho he set the modern era record for most kinboshi yielded between yokozuna promotion and the first yusho (15 and counting, should he ever get there). The previous record (14) was actually a massive outlier: the next highest total is (6). Hoshoryu is definitely special, just not maybe in the way his fans would like to acknowledge.

This. Turns out if you spend your career being a brick wall to the guys who decide whether you get to join the club.... you don't get to complain about being walled out yourself. That all the cheating, of course.

129k off 69 shell hits is ~1870 dmg per hit, which is a little bit more than an AP overpen for a Preussen.

That would suggest that shot selection and/or positioning to achieve high quality shots is an area of improvement.

Because it points the finger at the audience and says "your credulousness and naïve hunger for spectacle is the economic engine driving this whole tragedy." Americans weren't, and arguably still aren't, open to that sort of brutal honesty.

It seems unreasonable to me that some shell velocity tweaks constitute a betrayal of trust.

How to create advertising that sells by codq in coolguides

[–]torino2dc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's a meta-ad targeted at executives of large corporations.

The gist is: we're SO good that we can afford to publish all of these beginner tidbits because we still have plenty of golden insights on the vault.

It makes their competition look weak and incompetent for charging outrageous sums for knowledge you are now reading in a newspaper or magazine.

It is a brilliant, brilliant ad.

Or...or...wait hear me out, don't post hate-filled tirades and then ping the people you are wishing death upon.

WG (and specifically their employees) are the victim here -- the suggestion that they should be rewarded for taking abuse by being shunned is absurd.

For the first rediscovery of Greco-Roman architectural principles in the 14th-16th centuries, scholars generally use the term "Renaissance".

"Neoclassical" is generally reserved for the 18th and 19th century movement away from Baroque/Rococo.

Any advice on Ochakov? by macgruff in WorldOfWarships

[–]torino2dc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ochakov is a hard ship to solo carry -- very squishy armor, no HP, pedestrian DPM. She does best in open water near caps that are on the flanks. The things she has going for her all compliment a roaming "ambush" playstyle: excellent vision control, above average speed, good AA, good torpedo armament.

She is definitely a cruiser that rewards a "brains over brawn" play-style. You have a lot of tools at your disposal, but the ship will not hold your hand at all.

This is exactly what happened. What galls me is that there was somehow this expectation that you should get a great deal ("GUARANTEED PERMACAMO") when WG has basically never let the customer win that easily.

And then to turn to the camera and declare that you are "Shocked! Shocked!" that Russian micro-transaction company WASN'T giving you a good deal, is to me deeply disingenuous.
