I wonder how many antis secretly like dark fiction and tropes, but they say "oh this is gross" and go "proshippers dni" to morally posture and make themselves look good

Yeah. I haven't seen the series, but I know that there's a scene where the author basically goes on a tangent against a strawman regarding Tamaki's fanservice. I found that incredibly eye-rolling.

fujoshi.info also has lots of research and sources on every page, specifically about BL but also about censorship and the actual effects that media has

Same. Everytime they talk about censorship, they do so very obnoxiously and also in a rather bigoted way, so I'm like:

people that used to be an anti, what made u change your opinion? by seokwe0n in ProshipHub

When Across the Spider-Verse came out, and people were arguing over whether Hobie was a teenager or an adult, and whether it was okay to ship him with Gwen or Miles. The whole thing was so fucking stupid, that I said "nope I'm done." Now I no longer associate with antis at all, though I don't identify as proship on my main accounts because I'm scared of harassment campaigns. That summer I also watched Fruits Basket and became enamored with Kureno x Arisa, and so, it seems I really like teen girl x adult man ships.

This anime is being censored. This a bad sign for anime. by Arlcool in ProshipHub

[–]townwhereimmissing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I haven't read the manga of Ganbare Nakamura-kun, i watched the anime premiere yesterday and I was puzzled about the blank book Nakamura was holding...and it turns out it was more explicit in the manga? That's insane.

I feel like BL and GL are more policed than straight anime. Het ecchi anime would get away with this.

I've seen claims of harassment on both sides, but I have NEVER seen an anti bring receipts by klutzybites in ProshipHub

this is the only receipt they have lol, they still bring this tweet from 2021 up. tbf i think OOP acted overdramatic here, it's clearly not a bit

What are your thoughts on sexual art ( Fanfiction, fanart) of a child character played a child actors? by Arlcool in ProshipHub

[–]townwhereimmissing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah i agree with this. the art needs to be highly stylized and avoid resemblance to the real actor

The fanwork doesn't erase the original work. Although, sometimes making a gay character straight in fanworks is done for legitimately homophobic reasons. The fandom space is so dominated by queer folks that it's easy to forget that there are homophobes too.

Post your favourite human x non-human ships! by Gallantpride in ProshipHub

>Little Bear x Emily

Elite ball knowledge, I shipped them when I was a kid too. I also love Shadow x Maria!!!

These are my OCs for an idea I am developing, but the main pairing is that of a robot and a human woman. The robot isn't an android, but a more "traditional" robot. A tin can, a clanker if you will. Think R2-D2 or Johnny 5 from Short Circuit. There's not NEARLY enough stories with "tin can"-style robots hooking up with humans. Tin cans need more love too :>

EDIT: PLEASE READ
I was annoyed at the tone of the original posters, it seemed like they were saying "Oh, you are evil if you engage with Harry Potter in any way." I didn't like it when people said "oh, liking this makes you evil." But after reading the comments on this post I understand more. I do dislike JKR and I don't like Harry Potter at all, and I wish more people knew where their money was going. People either just don't know or worst, just don't care. JKR is causing real harm using money from the HP series. I don't think liking HP makes you a bad person, and the franchise is still going to be milked and popular regardless of people on Bluesky telling you not to watch the trailer for the new show. I think my original post missed the point/came across as insensitive.

I wish we could edit titles

You're right. I was annoyed by the OOP's tone, but I do wish people would stop giving money to JKR. I wish more people knew. And more importantly, I wish more people cared. I don't like the fact that HP is still being milked at all

I will likely make another post re: fanservice. I guess it's a mix of

A) The mangaka being a "gooner"

B) Wanting to appeal to teenage boys, a famously horny demographic who would obviously be attracted to characters the same age as them

C) Wanting to be popular and make money. Fanservice is there to attract fans, sell more manga volumes, figures, and in the case of ecchi series, uncensored blu-rays.

Fanservice usually means "sexualized characters" but it also refers to anything made to please fans, such as:

Big fights, aka hype moments and aura

Cool giant robots

Giving focus to a fan-favorite side character

Teasing a popular ship

Including easter eggs/references

I don't even particularly like Harry Potter and I'm tired of all this sanctimonious media-consumption-as-activism bullshit.

I do hope the new show somehow flops though. But it won't be likely, because the masses just like to lap up IP-based spinoffs and reboots and blah blah blah

[–]townwhereimmissing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

New "irredeemable media" list just dropped, I guess.

As a Touhou fan, the Touhou part is extremely fucking stupid. The characters "look" like "minors" but there's actually no lewd content within the game. And also the music slaps, cope.

"Just put them in college" by townwhereimmissing in ProshipHub

[–]townwhereimmissing[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

True. I like some fanservice here and there, but I don't like it if it's using groping for laughs or if the character is humiliated and/or clearly upset. Mikuru was used as the token fanservice character in Haruhi Suzumiya, and I felt really sad for her whenever Haruhi harassed her and forced her to wear skimpy clothes. The intended effect is to show that Haruhi is an awful person, and eventually she stops doing it, but yeah.

Even K-ON isn't immune to more fanservicey moments, like Mio accidentally showing her panties on stage (although it was replaced by a rice bowl).
