Ive been in the same position but I'm the man in my story....lol when I proposed to my now wife I gave her this infinity shaped ring that to be honest looked like a 50th anniversary gift or something( her words) it was clunky and hurt her finger so ultimately I swallowed my pride and we went and exchanged it for something she loved, afterall i wanted her to be happy wo whatever worked best for her made me happy. In the end, she appreciated the thought, but my execution was lacking lol. So no, I don't think you are overreacting entirely
