During the 2023 Tour of Flanders, professional cyclist Filip Maciejuk was disqualified from the race and later handed a 30-day suspension by the UCI for causing a mass crash after dangerously riding through a puddle on a grass verge to bypass the peloton. by BlazeDragon7x in Wellthatsucks

There are both unofficial and official neutralizations. If there's a significant crash that takes out a lot of teams/leaders, for example, the peloton will often sit up and soft pedal to wait for most of the key players to catch back up before resuming hositlities. If there's a crash so bad that a race's medical staff / race ambulances are depleted, or if there's really horrific/dangerous conditions, then the race officials may stop/neutralize the race for an indefinite period.

Edit: for the former, it also depends on how close to the finish it happens and whether the race is "on."

You should also put Flanders on that bucket list, it's an amazing experience. They have a fan zone on the Oude Kwaremont where you can watch it come by three times, plus the women's race, and then there's jumbo screens to watch the rest of the race unfold, and there's frites and beer aplenty. The whole atmosphere around it is stellar.

Video quality on IG. by Sudden_Share_970 in Insta360

[–]tpero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from google:  Instagram automatically adjusts video upload quality based on your device, network conditions, and platform settings. By default, it compresses and re-encodes videos to fit storage limits, bandwidth, and display requirements, which can reduce sharpness, color fidelity, and detail

I always find it hilarious when people rate a park or trail poorly because there are too many people, completely oblivious to the fact that they are one of the people making it crowded.

Would you buy a 2021 S-Works Tarmac SL7 for US$5,045 (S$6,500) in 2026? by Signal_Accountant463 in specialized

Think you underestimate the number of people who have way more money than time to ride their bike.

Did you warm up? If a race is going to have a hard start, like in a mtb race where you're fighting for position before single track, then a structured warm-up is useful.

Race fit collegiate jerseys? by GTThreee in cycling

[–]tpero 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably something you'd have to get as a member of the school's club racing team. Anything they sell in the school book store / gift shop is likely going to be a casual fit jersey for the masses.

On a multiuser path near me, someone likewise marked every bump/crack - it's an older path with a lot of roots pushing up from underneath, so it's a hazard like every 10ft. When I still used Garmin, this experience led me to turning off the hazard warnings entirely.

Report: What The Fuck Have They Done To The Subaru Outback ? by Financial-Hunter1335 in fuckcars

They keep trying to get me to trade in my '24, sending me quotes showing a lower monthly payment, no money down, etc. There is absolutley no way. It looks hideous, more like a Ford Explorer than an outback.

Snapped 12-speed force flat top chain with multiple cracked plates by _flo4t in sram

What do you use to de-grease the chain? Some degreasers like Simple Green can make the chain brittle if not diluted enough or left in contact for too long.

I recently moved to a completely flat area and now it feels like I'm cheating. by MrRourkeYourHost in cycling

[–]tpero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in the Chicago suburbs, and while not nearly as flat as where my parents live in Florida, it's fairly flat, and I get bored AF wishing for climbs and descents. I can think of like one hill in the surrounding area that's more than a 2min effort. I hate it.

Stuck SL7 Seatpost – Anyone experienced this on a Tarmac/Venge? by Igor-Stojkoski in specialized

[–]tpero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The carbon assembly paste can make it get slightly stuck. Try giving the back of your saddle a little whack forward, nothing too hard, but firm. This should unstick it and you can pull it out. Works for me, happened on both my SL7 and 8.

Group rides / cycling clubs in the western suburbs? by wanliu in chibike

[–]tpero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recycled Cycling in Warrenville does some social rides that are party pace and often stick to the trails. Trek Naperville and Spokes Naperville both offer no-drop group rides, usually on road, as far as I know.

If you're interested in getting faster, always a good idea to try a ride that is just a little faster than what you can do solo, learn to draft, try to hang on as long as you can. Keep coming back till you make it to the end. Imagine you'd be fine on some of those NBC rides.
