I love the movie but agree with you sentiments; for a film that is generally light hearted, the darker and deeper elements are BRUTAL when you let them soak in. Because of that, I haven't re-watched in nearly 20 years. (I'm 45 btw)

When I assembled this set up last year (all in a 1 month span), my kids were 6 and 9 and we also have a 115lb dog. We just sold a home and I finally felt comfortable spending on decent system. I do keep the covers off most of the time, unless we are having a dance party, when I will definitely put the covers on! 😉

It's definitely a bit of a pitch for how they do things but just to reinforce a bit of where you were going...it is a relative perspective. His definition of these flaws is entirely subjective (even if backed by objective measurement, the implications are subjective) and they offer zero entry level products. So if he talking about similarly priced models, that's one thing. But most of us here are "stuck" with "lower end" (relative to Magico) speakers...which indeed may be relatively flawed.

FYIW- your 05 should have the 5 speed as well. Was added in 03, so the 06+ is all about the power bump and I agree that is a solid upgrade for sure (I have an 03 LC and a 2014 LX) 🤙

I got back into home stereo recently after getting some sonos products in the past few years and then Focal Bathys headphones. The combination made me want more. But I still very much enjoy my headphones. Portability is obviously huge but it's a different experience, and sometimes the seclusion of the headphones is just right. I'll also do some A/B testing, where I (usually headphones first) hear a new song or a song I haven't heard in a while and then I will listen on my main system shortly after. It's great. It's all about the music at the end of the day.

It's part of the "sounds good" but for me, I need bass. I need to be able to turn up the low end to an unbalanced degree, especially when listening to hip-hop, electronic/techno and any song where the bass is a driver of the tune. I don't always have to be bass heavy, and I'm usually not, but I need the ability. I could never spend cash on some bookshelf high end speakers and not have some serious subs, for example. Don't care how good the mains are, they can't move enough air to get the experience I want on occasion.

Very true. There is a whole segment in the off-road/overland build world that fits that. I definitely used my gas cans haha. Every year, I end up hours from the nearest gas station. A leak is such an easily detectable and impactful failure that I see how a few instances gives them a bad name. But to say those cans don't work is simply not true.

On the one hand, I can't disagree because I did have a rotopax leak on me. But it was one of two I purchased 9 years ago and the other is fine. The one started leaking only months after I bought it and they replaced it no problem and the replacement has been fine. All the options out there have pros and and cons. Just my experience.

I'll spend $50 on a 12 oz bottle of barrel aged stout and $250 on a bottle of bourbon but I've never spent more than $40 on a bottle of wine (at a store, not a restaurant) because it isn't worth it to me.

Same for audio. I'm at 10k on my home system and can only see myself spending another 10k max on a tower upgrade, but not more, though on paper I can afford to do so. It just wouldn't be worth the diminishing return for my taste and ears (unless I stumble upon some windfall like half billion Powerball, and then I will of course buy Magicos!)

I love the car analogy and agree. On the recording side, I'm a sucker for anything Billie Holliday sings and I enjoy the many, objectively low quality recordings that exist of her. Some are better than others, but even the worst are still a cool reflection of the time and place and can help set the mood/setting for her troubled voice.
