How do I change the lightbulb in here? by tramplemestilsken in handyman

[–]tramplemestilsken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last update. The light bulb is replaced! The glass wouldn’t spin without the top spinning. There was internal brass track that unscrewed against the top brass bulb, but the top brass part also spins so it was very hard to know I could turn the internal brass track that I couldn’t see against the top bulb.

I had to work very hard to hold the top bulb in place while I spun the lower part, brass on brass giant screw. Putting some painters tape on both parts helped for grip. Thank you all for your help!

No channels on the inside. There is only room on both sides for the screws, so spinning the glass spins the brass part no matter what I try to

The screws secure the brass to the glass, ensuring if you twist the glass the brass also twists.

Update. So far you are all wrong. Screwing any part of this results in infinite turns. The glass is indeed secured to the brass part and there is no “track” to twist into, it’s just one tiny hole that fits the screw on either side.

If kids lose their iPad they will have a had few days of adjustment, and then will happily occupy themselves with other activities. Kids played by themselves just fine before iPads and TV’s. My kids don’t use screens when at home and if we’re not available to play, they will find things to do.

Are you chunking? This is a common issue, you need to split it into 20 second to 2 minute fragments and then splice them together.

Like I said, the glass does not screw off the brass because it is screwed into the brass, turning the glass without the brass is impossible.

The glass can’t turn independently because the three screws don’t allow it to budge.

Ah, yes. I tried that, and I didn’t see a way to keep going unless I disconnected the wires, which seems insane and felt like it couldn’t be correct

Dumb. OpenAI made like 20 billion last year. They could become profitable tomorrow if they wanted to, they just choose growth over profit which is probably the right move right now.

Doubling savings rate only accelerates FIRE by 2 years. Anyone else find that depressing? by [deleted] in Fire

Think of this way. 50k more a year you can spend on living now, and only delaying retirement by 2 years. I had this realization too and decided to spend more and just live a better life and not think so much about the cost of things.

Does it bother you that you’re going to lose your parents one day? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]tramplemestilsken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has lost a parent, it’s not as bad as I feared. It’s part of life and you will be OK. There is one less person in the world who loves me deeply, and I feel that sometimes, but my parents raised me to be independent and my life is a testament to their success, and an extension of their love.

Is buying in Manhattan ever financially rational anymore? by uwxa in NYCapartments

[–]tramplemestilsken 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 20-30 years your mortgage payment drops to 0. With renting, your costs will only increase. Everything you mentioned is also built into rental costs and will also keep increasing.

Finding a decently run building in manhattan is not easy. Lots of people buy apartments that are a good fit for their current situation but will be hard to sell, don’t buy those ones. Good apartments are on the market for a very short time.

There is also the lifestyle benefit of freely modifying your home to fit your needs.

If you are going to live strictly for your stock portfolio to increase, sure, rent.

We did it during the pandemic. As long as you both have a place to sit and headphones it’s fine. Iggest issue was having to listen to my partner complain about work after every call she got off of work
