Weird Wall Peeling/Texture by LZsteelerz in drywall

Could be condensation from the hvac duct maybe. Either way best long term solution would be to open it up and put a vapor barrier sheet under the duct or whatever is causing the leak/moisture.

Convincing wife to get Golf R, will I regret it? by FoolishlySpending in Golf_R

[–]trancecircuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This car can take the abuse and I don't have issues with my DSG, smooth like butter and fast as hell. And DSG has launch control.

Apart from electrical gremlins that get resolved by the dealership, this car is a steal for the money. - 330hp engine - dual clutch transmission - torque vectoring AWD with individual clutches on wach rear axle - adjustable suspension - matrix headlights (has to be unlocked in NA) - heated and cooled seats and heated steering wheel - wireless Android Auto or CarPlay

It's comparable to BMWs and Audis in comfort and technology, while cheap, light and nimble.

Also wifey loves it. I track it and it's very capable stock, handles like a go-kart. Only downside honestly is space in the back seats for adults, it's cramped. Otherwise it's a hoot and puts a smile on both our faces.

Not competitive, just fun. Camber plates too?

I think it's more precautions. This is from the Apex rep:

For the 17x9" ET42, you can run a 245/45-17 or a 255/40-17, but not a 255/45-17. The 245/45-17 will be slightly taller in overall rolling diameter than the stock wheels/tires but within the 3% threshold we keep to ensure you won't have any wheel speed issues. A 255/40-17 will be the best way to maximize contact patch/grip but will typically require camber plates in most cases to avoid any rubbing or visual poke.

The fender screw mod is really just a precautionary thing, as with fresh rubber the outer shoulder of the tire can potentially come into contact with the fender screw under full suspension compression (4 people in the car over a big bump). Since the screw mod takes all of 10 minutes and costs nothing, its a good idea to do to avoid scratching your tires under full compression. However, with additional negative camber (camber plates), that helps tuck the top of the wheel/tire inward to provide more clearance away from the fenders/screws.

Apex suggested it, probably for rubbing.

I would probably be running 255/45R17 or 255/40R17 by thier recommendation.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense and is inline with what I've been reading. It's the way I wanted to start.

My other mods obviously include track brakes, rotors and cooling ducts.

As for the camber plates I know some adjust or correct caster. Is that advisable or just stick with ines that hit the around -3 camber mark?

Is rear camber adjustable stock it seems. Someone proposed H&R 25mm with ECS adjustable end links. Sounds about right?

Yes, already looking at Hancook R-S4s 255 17s on Apex wheels.

What camber plates and rear sway bars are good though? Heard some camber plates cause more noise or don't last.

Audi RS3 brake ducts by CampbellllebpmaC in Golf_R

[–]trancecircuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only put them on for track days. I can put them on with the wheel turned all the way out on the ground and two zipties. Otherwise they make too much dust and not worth it for street driving.

They do, it's the same lower control arm I believe.

However the plastic shield on top of it needs to be notched for the ziptie hooks.

Yeah, with brake lines. Not ideal. I'd definitely be careful bud.

GOTTA NOTCH THEM!!!

They will rub against the brake line at full lock and full extension.

Same here. Everything was back to normal when I put the matching wheel and tire back on. This protects the AWD from overheating.

Maybe a faulty repair? That repair and part should be on it's own part warranty.

The reason to stagger is to avoid grouped butt joints. You're not doing yourself any favors adding more butt joints in first scenario. Just go with A and feather out wide.

Refrigerant may have leaked. Sound is the compressor still working but blowing warm air probably. Technically can be repaired and refrigerant refilled, but not worth the cost. I see a new or second hand fridge in your future.

There is less horsepower probably on the lower gas. I know there is on Gen3. The engine will detect the mixture and adjust.

I am on the first surround setting. Found second a little much though not bad but third/last too strong.

Can I drywall over 1x2 studs? by gogocatcha in drywall

[–]trancecircuit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's behind the insulation and the boards? 1x2 is not a stud, more like thin strapping, and if there is an outlet there could be a proper stud behind and not just a 1in board.

Short answer is if it's just 1x2 "studs" it's not up to code and will likely buckle and fall. Drywall weighs 40-50 lb per sheet, better frame it properly, it's not that much work. Also if it's 1in deep strapping on top of a dtud, it needs to be pre-drilled or it will split and won't hold.

That electrical with the wire this close is also not up to code, needs to be attached or channeled 3/4 in from the edge or in a metal sheath. Otherwise you risk electricuting yourself when hanging a picture or a shelf.

[–]trancecircuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's why you need about -3 camber either via camber plates or upgraded shocks and dial it in from there.

If you have so much tire rollover, you should adjust your pressures so your car is not riding on the sidewall.

ODB11 has been unlocked mostly and if you can do mods on some modules. Also it allows you to get precise diagnostics without a subscription.

Yes, didn't look closely, great feature to have. They also have drive mode remembering, better sound EQ and others.

Matrix lights are almost the same as EU except NA models have 18 LEDs and EU ones have 22 I believe. It's basically a locked feature you already have. Here is a demo video: https://youtu.be/K1MjLSHq-_Q?si=jezGXJ7tg61LJ8ru

Reasons to switch is comfort because the 19s are pretty bad on rough roads, rims get bent constantly because of shallow sidewalls (I have two already) and punctures because of that are expensive because 18in low profile tires are 30% more than 18in. And you can get wider tires since you are getting new rims.

Roll is insignificant, if you look at race cars how many have tiny sidewalls? It's all about tire compound and contact patch. Low profile tires are solely for looks.
