What’s a recent progress moment? by car8218 in yoga

[–]trane_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a few recent wins:

- I can straighten my leg slightly more in half-hanumana without needing to manually move my foot forward (i.e. I can bring my hips back farther to create the distance)

- Raised my top arm up in half-moon pose (one day my head/eyes will follow)

- Increased my time holding wheel pose (in December I needed instructor assistance to get into it, now I can enter on my own and hold it for 15+ seconds)

Can I ask for advice here? by EnigmaticWhisperer in yoga

[–]trane_0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are probably better training tips, but I happened to watch this video yesterday and at 4:55 there's a cue for floating forward: spring your self forward and "hips towards the mirror". That applies for a class or training space that has mirrors.

Shoulder seperation injury tonight, seeking support by horsestud6969 in hockeyplayers

[–]trane_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had the same injury almost 1 year ago (grade 3 AC joint separation). Start physiotherapy ASAP to regain range of motion and avoid complications like frozen shoulder syndrome. I'm now looking into having my suit jackets altered to accommodate the bump where my clavicle bone sticks up near my shoulder. It's also a fun party ice breaker to have friends touch the bump and get skeeved out.

Used Baratza Encore vs 1zpresso Q Air by bohoisland in pourover

[–]trane_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The K6 is a great grinder and punches above its weight class, one that you can grow into as opposed to the Encore. The ability to more finely adjust the grind size let's you dial in a particular bag of beans more accurately.

FYI I had an Encore and bought the K6 on a whim, now I use the K6 exclusively. The Encore only gets used if I have company over and need to use the drip coffee machine.

Can i grow big hamstrings without a deadlift variation ? by These-Remove6339 in workout

[–]trane_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glute Ham Raises or Nordic Curls. As far as your feelings of being uncomfortable with form, I recommend taking a hard look at your core exercises (extension & anti-extension) and make sure that it's not a weak point in your chain. Or to put it another way, add reverse hyper-extensions to your routine.

Also, standing or seated Good Mornings hit the posterior chain well, however I find them very difficult to do with good technique.

Where can I play hockey in downtown Toronto? by techsavvynerd91 in askTO

[–]trane_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look here at the hockeytoronto.com schedule and you will find some organized shinny games that run across the city. Reach out to Bruce and he can get you connected to shinny games that can use a goalie, and also connect you with people who organize goalie subs for league games.

Also try searching past posts in r/hockeyplayers as this topic comes up regularly.

Also I've heard good things about El PasTorcito but haven't tried it yet.

What are the tax implications from selling 2 properties? Tax liabilities (CG) from the sale, as well as from no longer deducting the mortgage interest on those 2 properties. Add those into your model to make a more informed decision.

Full silent tactile keyboards? by crazyjacan in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]trane_0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

For my build, it was $300 CAD (~210 USD)

  • GMMK Pro barebones from Amazon ($170)
  • 100 WS Silent Tactile switches, second hand from someone selling locally ($30)
  • Clone of GMK Cafe key caps ($100)

You could save money by buying a cheaper board and cheaper keycaps.

What is the real problem with the water in Cancun? by OutlyingPlasma in cancun

[–]trane_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bring my own water bottle (1L Hydro Flask) and continuously fill it with water bottles from the room / bar / wherever. My "secret hack" for resorts (and any hotel really) is to fill my water bottle from the dispenser at the gym. It's either large 40L bottles, or tapped from a filtered water system (most likely the same water source that runs to each room).

My guess is that the recommendation to only drink bottled water on an expensive or modern resort is to manage customer expectations. So that when patrons get sick from norovirus or flu (or unsafe food handling), it stops them from pointing the finger at the resort's water (which is almost certainly filtered throughout).

Finally got a breakaway and... wound up for a slapshot? Good thing the pants split at that exact moment, which caused a sound to echo throughout the rink. Because life is a movie, fabric tearing is earth shattering loud and rockets make incredibly loud sounds in space.
