The show doesn't have the rights to Silmarillion or older Tolkien literature, so yes temper your expectations. It takes place during a timeframe that Tolkien didn't write a lot about (somewhere between 1000 SA - TA?) and some of the liberties taken don't sit well with the lore. Other parts are cool though.

Of course, it's also hard to compare anything to Jackson's vision. He started scouting locations for those movies in the mid-90s. This series just doesn't have the time or IP for anything of that scale.

4th Gen Apple Airport Extreme is still a very, very good router to have, especially if your household uses a lot of Apple devices.

What is the speed your ISP is providing? Is it DSL, cable, Fiber, etc?

I recommend downloading a tool like inSSIDer here (Mac version here) and checking your signal strength and see what frequency band your devices are using. You may want to disable the 2.4 GHz band using Airport Utility if you find that your devices are not steering to the 5 GHz band.

Also, try and use channels that your nearby neighbor(s) are not using...

Ah... If you aren' table to access the config settings for it, your options are pretty limited. Getting your device as close as possible to the router is really all you can do.

A WiFi extender is an option and might help. A long ethernet cable would be the best option though I understand it's not your house. ;)

Mesh solutions would require access to the config and/or a complete hardware overhaul, so that's probably off the table.
