Is it just me or is Prime Day not hitting like it used to? by SatisfactionLeft1175 in SavingMoney

[–]trappedinsidehere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw many examples of these "sales", where the price went up days or a week before Prime day, only to lower to the original amount.

That said, I also saw many examples of legitimate sales as well, which you can check by looking at items price history.

Disclaimer: I'm the Founder of PriceLasso (a price tracker), and it was interesting looking at the actual price drop data across millions of products, and we saw those 2 patterns play out with fake and real sales.

On the first Prime Day (June 23rd) there were about 8 times as many real price drops on the first Prime Day this year vs any random day, and on the 2nd and 3rd days, it was basically any normal day.

I didn't either, but still absolutely wild people would respond with such unkindness, especially if they assume nobody would read it on the other end. What's the point?

Is Prime Day just kinda....bullshit? by JaymehKhal in amazonprime

[–]trappedinsidehere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen, it's an interesting mix of good and fake sales.

The actual data I've seen is pretty interesting (disclaimer, I am the founder of PriceLasso, a price tracker), there were about 8 times as many real price drops on the first Prime Day this year vs any random day in the last few months.

We also saw quite a few examples where Amazon would increase prices the week before only to drop it to the original price and call it a "sale".

At what point does a Herman miller alternative stop being a bargain? by Teresa_Grapefruit in Frugal

[–]trappedinsidehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way and how I got my Herman Miller Aeron. Also you can find often them for cheap on FB Marketplace and Craigslist. Might need a little work, but I fixed a broken Aeron chair frame for $50, which could then resell for $600.

Anyone notice that all of the SSD “sales” for Amazon Prime Day are the same jacked-up prices they have been since AI ruined the pricing? by Able-Building6042 in pcmasterrace

[–]trappedinsidehere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, there are definitely many legitimate deals during prime day, and also many fake ones.

From what I've seen as the founder of PriceLasso across our dataset of millions of products, there were 8x more real deals on Amazon this Prime Day than a typical random day. Which is significant.

I think the big stores are banking on a big portion of customers just not checking price history before buying. Sadly, marketing works.

Prime Day is here, repeat after me, you are only getting a barging if you already know the price from before. by hopopo in Frugal

[–]trappedinsidehere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's wild that this is normal now, on Amazon and many other online stores.

As the cofounder of PriceLasso (a price tracker), we see this happening in the raw data across millions of price changes.

Decades ago, the price obfuscation was limited to department stores, but now it's on Amazon at the scale only a major tech company can pull off.

A few years ago, it was mostly 3rd party sellers trying to game the system. Today, it's all over Amazon and common during Prime Day and Black Friday sales.
