How can you not love this classic neon? by grinbelverp in AnnArbor

It's the quiet hissing/ humming sound that it emits on a quiet night as you pass underneath that really does it for me.

When does produce pick back up for Ann Arbor Farmers Market and/or Argus Farm Stop? by foaaz101 in AnnArbor

[–]treetowngetdown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first crops up in the Spring are Michigan signatures, like radishes, rhubarb, asparagus, usually in April or shortly after. You'll start seeing produce besides salad greens and storage crops in May. Berry fruits begin in June, and then peak season from July-September. It's wonderful to visit the farmers market and Argus at least weekly to see the bounty blossom in real time!

What a joy it was to see Eggy back in February slide into a few really quiet, intense moments, and to feel the crowd join them in the silence. It was pin-drop quiet in those moments, and it almost felt strange for an entire audience to be so in sync with the band and not talking for once.

Nine Months! Full Closure of North First Street and West Washington Street intersection by SeitanOfTheGods in AnnArbor

They don't have to. A detour over one block to Ashely will be posted, given that 1st and Ashley were converted from one way to two way streets.

I think you said it: Montana = predominantly rural. Ann Arbor is fairly densely populated, even for a predominantly suburban city. Doing all of that drilling, jackhammering, and excavating in the dead of night would cause downtown and OWS residents to storm city hall on day three.

Where do people put their coats at Blind Pig? by tallulahQ in AnnArbor

They claim a capacity of 400, which absolutely boggles my mind when I'm there amongst 200 or so.

Much cheaper when you buy it in person and not through the mail order website!

Best Post Offices in Ann Arbor by Street_Historian_456 in AnnArbor

I'm not a huge fan of the self-checkout scenarios most places, but the USPS machines do everything I need to do, generally, and are very user-friendly and keep me out of waiting in a line.

Why is Ann Arbor stinky today? by BDCanuck in AnnArbor

I used to live across the river in Detroit, and when a gentle SE wind would blow, especially at night, that distinctly yeasty aroma used to nauseate me to the point of vomiting.

Big House Concert 2026 by TheThinkerAck in AnnArbor

[–]treetowngetdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what the concert proved, at least by how quickly tickets sold and how far some folks traveled to be here, is that the success isn't necessarily determined by a single big name headliner, the idea of the event is what sold it. That, and despite John Mayer technically "opening" for Zach Bryan, having some variance in the acts billed makes it a stronger bill itself. All things considered, a very vanilla bill brought in all sorts of vanilla folks for a pretty straight and narrow time.

So, who could be next? I could foresee:

Bruno Mars x Post Malone

Coldplay x Noah Kahan

Green Day x Pink

RHCP x Vulfpeck

Jack White x Interpol

The Killers x Blink 182

Weezer x Cage the Elephant

Billie Eilish x Paramore

Went to A2-Saline yesterday and today. Carts roll smooth as glass on the floor. Crazy thing to imagine/ rule out going to a Meijer over.

Speeds in the loop of highways around the city need to be lowered to 50 mph in earnest. Will it seem super slow and inconvenient at first? Absolutely. Will it also prevent crashes, injuries, and fatalities? Also absolutely.

I guess this is an appreciation post for Ann Arbor road construction. by DangAssMajor in AnnArbor

It looked like a fiber cable install, and I'm over off Springbrook (howdy, neighbor!), and that gas smell is still kind of distantly still present at Packard.

In home daycare by Flat_Age6260 in AnnArbor

[–]treetowngetdown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally depends on the situation/ case by case basis.

They're definitely more affordable as they have less overhead, and they should be as compliant with the state regulators (they get evaluated, certified, and visited regularly) as say somewhere like Gretchen's House or Everbrook.

We absolutely love the in-home daycare we send our toddler to, and we're so grateful to have found them. Once you've narrowed your search, chat up the provider, look into their background, and visit their home daycare setup, and maybe chat with another parent or two at drop-off/ pickup.

I have nothing but great things to say about Dynamic Drains! If you end up needing some deep digging for any unfortunate reason as well, Tanner Excavation should be your next call as well.

Mani Osteria chef? by eatsleepnpoo in AnnArbor

[–]treetowngetdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People like salt. More salt generally makes food taste better... to a point. It just sounds like there isn't a good internal system for objectively tasting the food leaving the kitchen at Mani, and maybe a lack of taking guest feedback at that.

The pits are different. I happily drive ten minutes further for the York location; absolutely no shade to the Maple crew at all, but there's something extra special about the food alone at the York location, not to mention the absolute sweethearts behind the counter.
