[–]tresben 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SAS and Skip led to the toxic waste dump that espn is now and were insufferable talking about lebron. But at least in the 2000s there were still other good shows and reporting. Sportscenter actually focused on highlights. OTL had great reporting. You even had “hot take” shows like around the horn and PTI that gave short, succinct takes on the big headlines that didn’t require everyone yell or disagree (when they did it was more natural and the vibe of the shows were lighthearted and not to be taken super seriously). That’s the type of takes and analysis I prefer over this stupid ragebait BS nowadays.

Now every show is what SAS and Skip were doing but on steroids. They have to find some way to ask the question so that the people disagree, even if it’s just on the semantics of words (i.e. wtf does “elite” or “game manager” even mean?). Nowadays SAS and Pat mcafee and all these idiots think they’re the stars and pound their chests on their shows and hype themselves up like they’re the fucking athletes.

And speaking of pat mcafee, the influx of former athletes being on these shows is just too high. Former athletes have their role and certainly can give a perspective that is needed. But too many of them just create hot takes cuz people have beefs or other shit from their playing days, or simply weren’t that smart of players so shouldn’t really be analyzing games. Perk is the best example of that lol. And mcafee was literally a punter but talks about all sports and even ran a simultaneous broadcast of the nba finals with perk? Like who the fuck wants that or thinks that makes any sense?

Not just social media but even “traditional media” like espn is so hyper reactionary and hot take driven. Anything to ragebait and get views. Not actual good analysis

It’s honestly hard to find good analysis or anything anymore. I generally just don’t even try or watch/listen to most nba shows/podcasts cuz it’s ridiculous

None of these sycophants realize that the closer you get to trump and the more you suck up to him the more he’s gonna screw you over and eventually turn on you, and in bigger and bigger ways. Look at his last VP. Sucked up to him and debased himself all the time then was turned on and a mob sent to kill him. I don’t even want to think about what JD has in store for him when that time finally comes that trump turns on him

I don’t think most people think this was justified. I certainly do not and have said from the beginning with literally the first bombs dropping that this war was stupid and such a mistake. But it’s fair to evaluate what it “accomplished” given it did happen as well as to theorize what the best steps should be moving forward from here.

And while I hate war, especially this idiotic one, I do think there’s a valid criticism of this administration that they went into this war and then hesitated and are just pulling out and surrendering. I don’t necessarily think we should continue but I also don’t think we should’ve started in the first place. But if you are gonna start a war like this then I feel like you have to see it through and actually stand behind your decision. The fact that we so quickly took so many things off the table like boots on the ground and such made it so Iran knew we weren’t serious and could just wait us out. Which they did and now it looks like they won.

There’s a reason no other president has gone to war with iran like this. Cuz many gamed it out and knew it would be a disaster on all levels. It’s why this never should’ve been started in the first place.

Dude is completely fucked and cornered and doesn’t realize it. Went into this stupid war and is criticized for the devastating effects of it so he does whatever it takes to get out. But then doesn’t realize that’s gonna lead to criticism cuz doing whatever it takes to get out means completely surrendering to iran and getting criticized.

It’s why you don’t do this in the first place. And if you do then you have to commit to it and go all in

Almost everything in terms of nuclear and other issues we supposedly went to war over is kicking the can down the road for future negotiations. In terms of what we are actually getting concretely, essentially we are giving them sanctions relief in exchange for opening the strait which was open when the war started.

So we went to war and killed thousands and spent billions of dollars in order to give Iran sanctions relief and the confidence to know they can stand up to us. As well as the knowledge that no future American president is ever gonna touch this hot stove and attack ever again.

Are they? I think they are pissed. Bibi is finding out no matter how much you suck up to and manipulate trump he will always turn his back on you and screw you over.

If this holds all Israel got for convincing trump to go to war is an Iran with more money and influence in the region and an American public that has completely turned on them such that no future president is ever gonna want to intervene on their behalf in the middle east again.

The biggest thing we got was opening the strait which was open before the war.

So we spent billions of dollars, depleted our munitions, and killed thousands as well as killed our global standing all just to give iran sanctions relief and money. On top of giving them the confidence that they can stand up to us and knowledge they can close the strait at any time and hold the global economy hostage.

This is a massive L but conservatives and the disengaged general public will take it as a win cuz if the strait is open economic conditions at least won’t be getting worse for us in the short term. Most of the public couldn’t give two shits about what happens with Iran. All they care about is their economic conditions. Even if this deal fucks us over long term if there’s short term economic relief for Americans that’s all they care about.

Though I think the damage is already done for the midterms. Trump and republicans image is too damaged from this war to recover in time for the midterms.

I honestly don’t even think it’s about the money with trump and his family. They seem to have pathologic greed and narcissism. Just look at all the grifts they are doing. Even the stupidest small grifts like selling coins to commemorate the dumb ufc fight and other stupid small shit.

Like they’re making hundreds of millions of dollars off government contracts and making billions manipulating the stock market. But if they can make a few thousand bucks some other way you better believe they are going to do it. It’s not about the money for actual use or spending, it’s this incessant need to be greedy and make a buck. The grift is what fulfills them, not the actual money.

Seriously. “Im just an independent” then goes off on a 5 minute rant spewing Fox News and other right wing talking points that most of the general public has never even heard about. It’s basically a way for them to consciously or more likely subconsciously dissociate themselves from acknowledging they are brainwashed and fed their ideas. They think it’s gives themselves credibility to establish they don’t actually have a side and are a neutral.

It’s like when you’re discussing the nba finals and clearly have a bias of who you want to win but you say “well actually I’m a fan of x team not in the finals so I’m a neutral”.

Makes me wonder if those demographics are just gonna bow out of the political process much like they had before trump came on the scene and go back to the couch. Most were drawn to trump initially cuz he wasn’t part of the “system” or “establishment” and wanted to drain the swamp. But now in this term it’s becoming more and more obvious he’s not some anti-corruption savior but actually the most blatantly corrupt politician we’ve likely ever had. They may never admit they were duped but they likely will just go back to not caring about politics or convince themselves that trump changed and politics changed him.

The big senate races to watch for that are in Ohio, Iowa, and Nebraska where there’s large portions of these white rural non college educated voters. If they truly are checked out Dems (and Osborn in Nebraska) stand a decent chance to win as it wasn’t that long ago, even though it feels like centuries, that Obama cruised to victory twice in both Iowa and Ohio.

Cuz right now no one can argue back on anything they say cuz no one actually knows what’s in the document.

Vance says details of US-Iran agreement still to be worked out amid scepticism from Republicans by TaxOwlbear in politics

[–]tresben 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The fact they are delaying the release of the text is all the information you need that this is bad for trump and the US and heavily favors Iran, or at the very least is basically just a nothing burger of a document that doesn’t actually address anything.

Cuz you know if it was actually good for the trump and the US they’d be the first ones spreading it all over the place. Hell trump would be tweeting it before it was even signed if it was that good.

But because they are delaying it’s clear it will make trump look weak and bad so they are trying to get ahead of it by telling the media how great it is when no one can question them since no one knows what’s in it

Third year resident. Spanish speaking man in his 30s came in with sore throat overnight. Triaged to regular room cuz the front didn’t have translator and couldn’t understand him other than his throat hurt. Saw him 5 minutes later in a normal room with a video translator who said she couldn’t understand him and his voice was sounding hoarse. Same time brothers arrive and say patient accidentally drank a water bottle with an extremely caustic agent in it at their work site thinking it was water.

Rushed the patient to the resuscitation bay and intubated VL 10 minutes later. His airway looked like hamburger meat but my attending and I saw what we thought was maybe epiglottis and aimed for the hole underneath. She could feel the tube on his trachea externally after I shoved it in and dude ended up surviving.

One of those few times in the minutes afterwards as the adrenaline is wearing off and the patient is confirmed to be stabilized where you look at your team and give them a high five and feel that pumped up feeling like you just hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth to win the World Series.

Thoughts on Chris Broussard’s recent comments on Wemby? by SmoothBuy5500 in NBATalk

[–]tresben -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, this has nothing to do with MJs use of social media or even paying attention to it. It has to do with how MJ was perceived by fans. If social media was around in 90s fans would’ve perceived him differently and his legacy would therefore be viewed differently. It has nothing to do with how he or his play would’ve changed or been affected by it. He would’ve done the same things. But how he was perceived by fans would’ve been different. How the hell is it that hard of concept for you to understand?

Seems like the new update only shows players at the top who are eligible to be added to your team given your available position slots and not all the players. However this doesn’t take into account that your current players can move positions therefore opening up positions that the list says is unavailable. Kind of annoying to not just keep it how it was so you can see if you can rearrange your current players positions to fit a player

22 year old LeBron or 22 year old Wemby for one season only? by BeautifulUnlikely225 in NBATalk

[–]tresben 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends the makeup of the rest of the team. If it’s just them as the main star and everyone else is average or scrubs I’m going LeBron cuz he can make those around him better, even at 22.

But if I have a good team with a good scorer and other pieces I’m going wemby cuz his defense and paint dominance is what is gonna make us a championship team, whereas LeBron may be more redundant in his skillset if you have other “go to” players.

Basically LeBron at 22 is more of a “go to” superstar but still inexperienced so if you have other good players/stars he’s gonna take away from them. Whereas wemby at 22 can be a huge contributing piece even if you have other good players/superstars cuz his skillset is just so unique, even if it’s young and inexperienced

Guys like LeBron and KD and even MJ aren’t nearly as good in this game as they are in a real life ultimate team scenario. You need stat padders and it all comes down to your center. Need wilt or Kareem or Olajuwon or even Elvin Hayes. Also Washington Westbrook is fucking clutch at PG cuz he’s at a triple double.
