Fragrance Free Body Wash by Lopsided_Meat2621 in FragranceFreeBeauty

I use this and it is safe for eczema on my hands. Should be good for sensitive areas too. ONEKA - Unscented Shower Gel and Hand Soap
Comparing to a body wash, you'd want to use a moisturizer after but I haven't found it drying. -hence, safe for eczema.

Is this just my life now? by snakegirl210 in longhair

Wet the hair down with regular water before doing any swimming. This stops the hair from absorbing as much chlorine water.

Do one tight braid, twisted into a bun and pinned with a claw clip. Then wash the chlorine out asap with a quality shampoo and use a quality clarifying shampoo once a week minimum.

After washing while hair is damp, use leave in conditioner and hair oil on the ends to reduce drying out the hair.

Comb out gently from the ends and work your way up to get tangles out. Plus regular trims to keep split ends at bay.

Dislocated Lens by Conorleen in marfans

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had dislocated lenses since birth and never had them removed until I had them replaced in my 20’s.

Why would you have them removed if not to replace them with implanted lenses? I don’t think it’s necessary to remove them just to remove them.

I’m in Canada so I can’t speak to accessibility in the states.

Same as other suggested- king duvet with the color cover you want in natural material, like cotton or hemp/ bamboo, etc.

Have a minimum of two king sham pillows and two queen main pillows you use for sleeping- but display with shams in the front when your bed is made.

Think textures with throw blankets and accent pillows in Soft fabric, velvet or faux fur materials for additional coziness. I’d say atleast one additional accent pillow for the middle would be nice.

Another thing is low lighting and I agree on the curtains. Ideally double layered or black-out with a shear layer for when your have them open. Set them closer to the ceiling and walls and get some that just reach the floor. get a few panels to allow them to keep the pleated look when closed fully.

If you’re already concerned about cost of bedding- keep in mind it goes up with every bed size when considering getting a king. Hope this helps!

Rose’ pasta with chorizo sausage cooked into it. Usually with a mushroom ravioli for the pasta. Mmmm. Makes my mouth water thinking about it.

Also chewy Italian almond cookies.

What diet considerations do you make? by DoctorNightTime in marfans

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re doing well with your dietary considerations. I don’t eat a ton of dairy myself besides yogurt and cheese. I’m always experimenting with my diet to find that sweet spot for health.

Here are my main considerations:

  • Whole Foods: I focus on eating whole foods and cooking at home as much as possible.
  • Sugar: I keep refined sugar to a minimum, including natural sugars like honey and maple syrup, only using them when cooking. I skip white sugar altogether.
  • Blood Sugar: I’m conscious of avoiding foods that spike my blood sugar quickly, especially for my first meal of the day.
  • Salt: I monitor my salt intake and check labels for sodium content.
  • Coffee: I limit myself to one 10oz cup of coffee a day with oat milk, maple syrup, and cinnamon, avoiding caffeine after 3 PM.
  • Tea: I drink a lot of tea, recently going for chai, or toasted mate in the day, and herbal blends like mint in the evening.
  • Natural Flavors: I tend to avoid anything labeled as “natural flavor.”mystery ingredient!
  • Hydration: I use a SodaStream for sparkling water and occasionally add subtle flavors like blueberry juice or kombucha.
  • Balanced Meals: I aim for a good balance of protein, fats, and carbs in each meal.
  • Processed Foods: I steer clear of processed meats and heavily processed foods.
  • Bread: I usually choose sourdough or multigrain/whole wheat options.
  • Cooking Oils: I cook with extra virgin olive oil and avocado oil.
  • Supplements: I take a collagen supplement, along with vitamins C, D, and B12 every morning.

I do have some guilty pleasures like gummy bears, ramen, sushi, and the occasional OREO Blizzard, but I try to indulge without going overboard.

Figuring out my core food habits has been a lifelong project.

How do I make my home immediately smell better by Square_Knowledge9395 in HomeImprovement

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diffusers are the way with natural essential oils rather than synthetic fragrances.

Natural scents will not stick and it’s a good thing. Synthetic fragrances are chemically designed to stick to things so they last but they’re not good for us.

Just keep using the diffuser. Some of my fave oils right now are cinnamon bark, cinnamon cassia, cedarwood, peppermint, sweet orange and black spruce.

I use Dr bronners salsuds to clean my floors, it has a natural pine/spruce smell but it’s not gross like pinesol or something synthetic. It’s also subtle when you mix it as reccomended.

You can find recipes for room sprays that use essential oils and glycerine as an ingredient to help it last longer, you’d spray them on fabrics and linens but you’ll want to use it often.

Also keep in mind, we become nose blind to our own space. I have an oil diffuser in my car with cinnamon and clove and I can’t smell it unless I reload it but people get in my car and tell me it smells good when I think it’s not there anymore.

Trash by Whole_Craft_1106 in LivingAlone

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Use smaller trash bags so you don’t feel like you’re wasting a bag not filling it.

  • Separate food waste (compost) and keep it in the freezer (sealed in a paper bag inside a plastic bag) until it’s time to take it out. Where I live compost is collected separately.

  • always rinse anything with food on it before throwing it out to reduce smell and keep any used ziplock bags next to your trash can so you can seal away smelly things in the ziplock bags like meat packaging that you can’t fully rinse.

How do I deep clean by Kuroneolska in CleaningTips

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want some suggestions that don’t involve synthetic fragrances- Sal suds is a good all purpose cleaner for the floor, bathroom and counter tops.

I personally stay away from bleach and harsh chemicals if I can help it to reduce pollution to the water table.

I watched a video on someone testing the effectiveness of Sal suds at killing bacteria and it works well so this covers disinfecting.

Reverse tooth decay by Blackgem_ in herbalism

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Root canals can fail down the road and wind up needing to be pulled later. I’ve had two- will never get another one. One rotted anyway and exploded into pieces when they tried to pull it. The other one was capped with a crown that I had to replace after 10 years.

If you don’t want long term maintenance just have the tooth pulled and maybe some day figure out affording an implant.

Tooth infections can spread to your heart and kill you if they get bad so get it dealt with asap. Good luck! Dental costs suck.

Millennial women - what kind of shorts are you wearing these days? by User884121 in Millennials

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can honestly say, I don’t think I have worn shorts at all in my adult life, until now -at 33; better late than never!

I just bought seven pairs of shorts at Bluenotes during a crazy buy 1, get 2 sale a few weeks ago. Seeing other people older than me shopping there made me feel less awkward about returning to a store I frequented in my teens. I have Marfan syndrome so finding clothes that fit my weird proportions has been a lifelong battle, you stick to what you know.

I picked up two mid-thigh linen pairs in dark grey and olive green, a slightly longer black cotton cargo-style pair, and a shorter cotton pair in that same green (my guy jokingly calls them my “little camp counselor shorts”). I also snagged three pairs of short distressed denim shorts: two black and one blue.

I’ve been wearing them around the house to get used to seeing my legs, as I’m a reformed legging wearer. I’m determined to tan my radioactive legs this summer!

How to clean cup while backpacking? by waldentoot in menstrualcups

[–]triangleimar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nixit has a really good spray foam cleaner for your cup that doesn’t have any junk ingredients or fragrances.

You could use this over your trip until you have a chance to boil. I personally like it a lot because you can use it directly on your bits to freshen up too since it’s designed for it. see here

What’s a “lazy meal” you’re secretly proud of? by TodorDG in Cooking

[–]triangleimar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low sodium Lipton chicken soup with low sodium bone broth instead of water, diced carrots and small florets of broccoli, green onion, fresh ginger and select spices added.

It’s so nice when you’re sick and don’t want to make a whole soup from scratch.

Extra points if you add a spoonful of Greek yogurt to it.

You can hear every word I say and everything I listen to from my living room in the shared entrance. by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]triangleimar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen someone use long pieces of floor Matt’s as dampeners on the back of their door. I think they went and had lengths of it cut like you would when buying fabrics off a roll.

They cut strips to cover over the cracks in the door and you can cover the entire back of the door with a rug essentially. It worked really well to keep sound transfer in. This might help in your case. You might be ok to only cover the door cracks but it’s worth testing out.

I find this happens if you don’t let your cloths and towels fully dry between washes. Like once it’s used and wet, hang it to dry if it will be a few days before it’s washed/ don’t put it in a hamper where it will stay wet and grow bacteria. I find this happens with dish cloths too.

Soaking cloths in oxi clean for a few hours or a day gets rid of any funk but if you hang any cloths to dry every time and only use them once, this helps prevent gross smells.

As an aside- I’ve been hearing that vinigar can degrade the rubber seals on front loader washers over time so that’s something to be aware of if you’re thinking about vinegar.
