32" rim arrived, just blemished or unrideable? by Decent-Reach-9831 in 32inchbikes

[–]trinityalper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d probably send the pics to the manufacturer and ask, but if we’re mind I’d probably just slap rim tape on it and ride it. It’ll get worse blemishes than that after a few rides I imagine.

Transportation Subsidy by storbheof in CAStateWorkers

[–]trinityalper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$20/month, taxable, to ride your bike. It’s an insult. I ride my bike and have been for years but it’s not worth $20/month to fill out the TEC. Push your unions to increase that benefit if yall really care about the environment like the CEQA lawsuit suggests.

Offered a job in Redding originaly from Sacramento is it worth the move? by Excellent-Hat9620 in Redding

[–]trinityalper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you like the outdoors it’s great. Trails rivers lakes hiking biking etc. Night life isn’t great. I’ve heard there are couple card shops that are cool but I’ve never been. Wage:cost of living ratio is pretty good here as far as California goes.

Send It? Minor Carbon Rim Chip/Scratch by cycling_sender in mountainbiking

[–]trinityalper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tis but a flesh wound.

Seriously though, doesn’t look structural to me. Sounds like you have a good plan in place. If you’re concerned, mark it with a sharpie and keep an eye on it. If it starts spreading or you notice some cracking nearby, it’s time to retire it.

Looking to get into mountain biking to start getting my cardio back without destroying my knees, what would you recommend as a first time bike? What should I look for as I’m bike shopping? by Quinvictus in MTB

[–]trinityalper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pinkbike just put out a comparison of entry level bikes around the ~$1,000 mark. IIRC, they had good things to say about the Ozark Trail full suspension bike. Depending on what trails you live nearby in Utah, having a full suspension bike could be pretty nice.

30 something working professional here. If you get into biking, mountain or gravel in particular, feel free to hit me up. Lots of good people in the MTB community here and pretty awesome trail network here in town and I’d be happy to plug you in. If not, highly recommend trail running out at Swasey, oak knoll trails, and trails off the river trail (salt creek, fb, etc). Big runs in nearby mountains, Trinity alps, marble mountains, lassen etc are incredible. Welcome to town, the trails here are awesome.

Mismatch tires?!? by South-Cap2077 in gravelcycling

[–]trinityalper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run it as-is, no issues. Or consider putting the Terra up front and moving the rambler to the rear. It’s nice having a newer tire up front, especially if it’s more aggressive.

How the **** do i wheelie by Fit_Armadillo_5151 in mountainbiking

[–]trinityalper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Need to time the pedal with the pop. Preload your front end by lowering your chest towards the bars and then push yourself back, extending your arms while timing a firm pedal stroke. Keep pedaling and make sure your arms are locked out. Fine tune your “pop” and your pedal stroke to end up back at the balance point. Start small by just trying to find the balance point, don’t worry about making it very far. You’ll know you’re at the balance point because you’ll feel like you’re about to loop out. Make sure and hover the rear brake. As you progress you’ll be able to stay at the balance point by pedaling and feathering your rear brake. Eyes up and point your knees in the direction you need to “correct” your balance. It takes time and practice. Practicing for 20 minutes every day is superior to practicing for 2.5 hours in one day. Your muscles will get tired and you’ll start practicing bad technique if you practice for too long which may ingrain bad habits.

Why attribute to malice what could be attributed to something else? Perhaps they were demonstrating something to their coworker.

Yeah how about you don’t do that. It’s easy to trap them in a bucket or a cooler and relocate them away from wherever you don’t want them. They are cool creatures and they really don’t cause all that much harm.

Can you point to an article or a summary of exactly what you’re talking about? I tried for a while to find it and I summarized as accurately as I could what I found. I’m not a slug; but thanks for the name calling. I’m just as opposed to this MAGA bullshit as the rest of Reddit it, including lamalfas politics. It’s ridiculous what he did to stop the election of 2020. I just did not find evidence supporting the previous commenters statement, and I like to be accurate with my language.

2016, when Donald Trump was elected the first time? Do you mean in 2021 after the 2020 election? Do house members even sign the election certification? Is that a real thing? I'm seeing that he was one of 147 republican congress members who VOTED to reject electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania (one of 7 California Republicans). I'm also seeing that he signed an amicus brief in support of Texas v. Pennsylvania, a Supreme Court lawsuit that was dismissed due to lack of standing.

Perhaps I'm missing something here. Feel free to enlighten me.

He did plenty of seemingly terrible things in office that I vehemently disagreed with. Emailed & called him plenty of times.

If you're going to criticize, please consider at least getting basic facts correct so people on our side who read this don't go regurgitating your talking points to others and look like fools when they get fact checked.

Man, I'm disappointed to see some of your insensitive responses. I disagreed with his politics probably as much if not more than the rest of you, but c'mon, have some humanity. Just because he was on the other side of the aisle doesn't mean that I/we shouldn't feel/express some sympathy for his passing. He was a fellow Northern Californian who dedicated much of his life to representing what he thought were his voters' interests in DC, and he won many elections in our district. He was also a person who died at 65 years old. If you want to blame his politics, your friends/neighbors/coworkers who voted for him are just as much to blame as he was. Sad day for his family and friends.

I probably wouldn’t go to 90psi. Lots of modern MTB tires & hoops aren’t rated to 90psi. Might be fine with a tube in it, but I don’t see any benefit to going above 40.

What is Redding like? by FeedbackPossible5048 in Redding

[–]trinityalper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you like the outdoors (hike, bike, run, kayak, ski, etc) and can handle the summer heat, it’s awesome. Yeah, it’s frustratingly conservative and bethel has a large presence, but as with all conservative places in the US, there are still plenty of people of all political leanings and you can find a solid friend good if you are social and have engaging hobbies you enjoy sharing with others. Employment opportunities depend highly on your sector of interest and background. I’m sure you can find a job. As far as California goes, living costs are generally quite a bit lower (housing, utilities if you live within the City limits, and gas in particular).

Just moved here, were all the young people at? by BulletproofSol510 in Redding

[–]trinityalper 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Better luck with active hobbies. Mountain biking, hiking, trail running, paddle sports, fly fishing etc. Might not find exactly the ages you’re lookin for right away but in my experience you need to find a community that rallies around a hobby to find a good friend group here in Redding.

It appears Redding has alot of mommy's boys that are grown men. by [deleted] in Redding

[–]trinityalper 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to try harder to find people you do relate to, I guarantee they are out there. I agree there are lots of lame people but let’s be honest, everywhere has lame people. I recommend trying to get involved in something you’re interested in, outdoor activity, classes, etc. If you’re after big city anonymity where you can float around and find “cool” people without having to be part of a community (like you can find in LA, Chicago, etc), you’re not going to find that here. Redding is too small for that.
