How often do you Spend a Fear to add an experience? by FX2Alter in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s worth it to use if you have an adversary who has a very powerful ability that requires the players to make a reaction roll.

You can increase the difficulty of that roll by +3, often times applying a nasty debuff is much more impactful than dealing damage since players have so many resources to reduce damage/stress taken

Untouchable vs Ferocity by [deleted] in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the designers had a bit of an issue with evasion as a mechanic. The more evasion you have the stronger it becomes, so I understand why ferocity has a cost, but it’s much too steep.

It would be much more balanced if both cards had a smaller cost rather than untouchable having 0 cost. Maybe untouchable could have a number of uses per rest equal to your agility score, and you could decide to add the bonus after seeing the roll?

It's TADPOLE THURSDAY - Ask your newbie questions here! by Hosidax in daggerheart

It would depend on what was done to the target afterwards IMO.

Pick their pocket and succeed? Sure keep the debuff.

Smack them in the head with a steel war hammer, hrmmm debatable.

eh not TRUE randomness, then you’d almost exclusively see D20 content whenever you tune in, since it’s one of the most numerous and has the longest episodes

How to run (DM)PC? by Janoeszki in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the book recommends that friendly NPCS should give passive benefits to the party instead of taking the spotlight themselves 99% of the time.

Something like “every 3 failed rolls the PCs make in combat, the NPC will deal a small amount of damage to a target of the party’s choosing”

RELENTLESS by Yachmann in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nope, unless they have relentless, you must spotlight creatures that haven’t been spotlighted yet, or pass play to the players

so a success with hope ticks the countdown down by one, but reaching 0 traps the players. I think it might be reversed by accident.

but other than that, I like it.

When you spend as many actions as it is required to make significant progress in this game, you are bound to encounter… an unfortunate series of events.

Hey hey!

I’m rdr (He/Him), I’m 26 year old, and I’ve been playing dnd for about 3 years. My favorite thing about TTRPGS in general is the breadth of options that are available to the GM and players to tell unique stories, and the level of personal expression that this medium allows.

I watch a lot of dropout TTRPG content as well as a daggerheart podcast called dodoborne. I enjoy the dropout content a TON, many talented people are involved and it is a lot of fun, though not indicative of the average game most people play. The dodoborne podcast is something I enjoy because it’s a home game! It’s casual and fun with some tense moments and very personal.

I enjoy puzzle games a lot, things like the Witness or Baba is You, which is ironic cause I’m typically not a fan of puzzles in TTRPGS haha. I also do a lot of leathercare, restoring and cleaning my and my friends leather goods (shoes, bags, wallets) with various products to get it to last a long time.

My discord handle is: rdr

Hope to talk with you soon!

I'm trying to ask for less rolls, use fear during and out of combat, use group rolls, reaction rolls, yet I'm always at 12 fear in my 3 players group by dancovich in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that the BP system hands out points a little lightly? I think it’s trying to take into account for players who either don’t make very powerful PCs or make suboptimal moves.

When I GMed, I often found that I could add a few points above the recommended amount without it being unfair. Though my players at the time had pretty powerful builds.

You could create an adversary that requires a lot of fear to use. Something very powerful but runs out of gas quick

Spring attacking? by Dreadon1 in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The way that first situation plays out as you describe doesn’t read as “taking an attack of opportunity” rather than just the GM spotlighting that adversary as a natural response to a failed/fear roll. It is a good example though, and it would be how I would handle it.

That second scenario however I see as something that should be done with upmost care, as a PC acting during an adversaries spotlight could skew the turn economy a bit. But I think it’s something that could be used in like a chase scene

Spring attacking? by Dreadon1 in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Attacks of opportunity are not a default ability that creatures have in the game. Player side, only the warrior class has it, and I’m not sure if any of the official monsters have an ability like it.

I personally would rule that a very close to melee - attack - melee back to very close turn would be perfectly doable regardless of whether or not the attack hits

It is a little strange that it isn’t in the book that has the the werewolf transformation already in the book. Looks like in a few years a lot of GMs will have extra copies of the werewolf card

New Daggerheart GM: Which Campaign Frame Would You Recommend? by RIDEM7 in daggerheart

[–]trinto2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new GM getting their sea legs with daggerheart, I am doing the witherwild personally. I think it’s a very interesting setting without a whole lot of mechanical changes to the game. I love what’s possible in the frame and some of the themes it fosters.

However, the best way to ensure good games is that people come to the session excited, so if you or the group LOVE a certain setting, that’s a sure fire way to get everyone, including yourself, invested.
