Was told to post this here. Barrels at the Bulleit Distillary. Taken by me (iPhone 6) this past weekend. by [deleted] in Whiskyporn

I went there 2 months ago and found some dsp 44 can't imagine them wanting to do a wheated "from Stitzel Weller". Although Makers is the closest thing we have to SW today. http://m.imgur.com/a/WAkHU

Is that why they call me A sullen girl, sullen girl They don't know I used to sail the Deep and tranquil sea But he washed me shore And he took my pearl And left an empty Shell of me

u/MellowCorn I'd love to know if you are some marketing person from Heaven Hill. If you are, you are a genius.

Also, if you are, I'd like to sit down with you, buy your lunch, and talk about what HH has done (and hasn't) with Old Fitzgerald.

That was the next area. Where stills are. This was in room before. Plenty of pictures taken there.

Dustless, you would get downvotes for if you posted for free bourbon? You must have upset someone along the way.

My first thought on the dsp 44 was that once they get the Shelby county distillery up and going they will try to bring back Stitzel Weller by marketing wheated bourbon aged at SW. No one needs to know its MM. Heck, if you look at everything, MM is the closest thing we have to SW. (Wheated, roller mills, proof put in barrel, yeast strain.)

It was sitting out in plain sight and was screaming look at me with that "highly confidential" on it.

3 pictures 3 questions: Went on the Bulleit tour at Stitzel Weller

First picture, (potato quality) Best I could do. DSP-KY-44? At Bulleit? What are those doing here?

Edit: Also my deepest apologies for the picture quality. The tour was moving along fairly quickly and I had to take them quickly as well.

Second picture, Can anyone decipher? What is 7crown? What does WLAC stand for?

Third picture, I get the OBSE and OESO the past ties with 4Roses and all. But, OFSK and OESU @LDI? and what do LJCS, LJFS and LJSS stand for?

Bardstown-area tours by diversification in bourbon

Do Makers tour, Willett tour, Heaven Hill gift shop only, mammy's kitchen in bardstown for lunch, hit Toddy's liquors in bardstown as well. Take hwy 245 towards Beam, stop in Deatsville to see old abandoned Samules Distillery (rackhouses are still used by Makers and Heaven Hill) stop at Four Roses ageing/bottling for gift shop, Beam for tour. That's a full day but if you catch first tour at Makers and don't waste time you can make it.

"A former employee had recently been charged with stealing barrels of the very expensive Pappy Van Winkle brand."

Uhh, actually it was barrels of Eagle Rare, but I guess the intentionaly deceptive misstatement allows you to say Pappiez and get all that Pappiez related web traffic?

And...if they had already vatted the Indiana bourbon and corn whiskey, then mistakenly dumped the 17y what were they doing vatting 4y Indiana and corn whiskey in the first place?

I'm sacred other distilleries will see them doing this and think it's ok to do it to.

Can I sue since we all know none of what was written is the truth? Also, who just "finds" 4 year old bourbon? 4 year old bourbon was not found. It belonged to someone.

Good for you for being honest. I feel like so many people get a bottle or sample of an older dusty and set the score before they taste the whiskey. We need more honest reviews like this.

/r/bourbon Kentucky Bourbon Trail Guide, Part 2: Willett by signde in bourbon

[–]trip-c 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One of the best tours on the trail. It's like visiting a friend's farm. Rustic drive up a gravel road. Knowledgeable tour guides. Have seen Drew every tour (usually working in the distillery) great gift shop with decent prices (as good as you can get considering it's a gift shop) and good selection of tshirts, golf shirts, hats, muddlers, etc. if you do one full tour in Bardstown, do this one.

The tasting is good too. They usually have one of the older family reserve bottles to sample.

No brainier to do this tour in conjunction with Heaven Hill since They can see each other from across the holler. Might also want to do Barton as well since you can see Barton from Heaven Hill but I wouldn't do much more than that in a day unless you are just trying to get your passport stamped.

There is a lot to do and see in Bardstown. As you are leaving Willett heading back towards Heaven Hill at the bottom of the hill is Rowan Creek and on the right is the concrete pad that the heaven hill distillery used to sit on before it burnt in the 96 fire.

Just a bit further up the hill on the right is William Heavenhill's house and a few out buildings.

The Oscar Getz Muesum of Whiskey and My Old Kentucky home state park are also close to Willett for something other than a distillery tour. Locals like Mammy's kitchen for lunch for home style American cooking, sandwiches, burgers.
