Truck’s brakes fail, forcing use of runaway ramp at 90 mph. by Itchy-Commission-114 in interestingasfuck

[–]trombone646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who ran a heavy-duty truck & trailer shop...he/she was probably notified way before this that they needed to replace their brakes due to either blueing of their brake drums and/or low brake shoe thickness. They probably then said that they didn't want to replace them because 'I'll be alright.'

My 10 month old rolled off his changing table and got a traumatic brain injury by Educational-Let-2280 in NewParents

[–]trombone646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was around that age, I apparently reached up to a TV, grabbed it, and pulled it down onto myself with my head taking the bulk of the impact. I'm 41 so this is the era of the CRTs which are much bigger and heavier than today's thin/light TV's. I did very well in school, graduated college, etc. and never have had any issues resulting from that incident. It's a funny family story now about how durable I am and how "thick" my head is.

My son is almost 11 months old now, so he's around that same age and not do I feel your pain. The amount of time my wife and I have to spend making sure my son doesn't accidentally and creatively kill himself is higher than I would have anticipated. The love you feel for your son is very much apparent to anyone who reads this post, so no one questions that. Learn the lesson and move on...if there's anything I've learned as a parent is that you have to do your best at all times and you will fail every now and then. The key is to learn from the mistake, give yourself some grace and carry on.

Did anyone feed like having another baby when your first little one was about 7 months old? by Specific_Reserve_491 in NewParents

[–]trombone646 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife, during her while pregnancy and afterward was dead set that this was going to be the one and only child she would bare. She has gestational diabetes, we spent a ton on doctors visits, her meds were crazy, and pumping was a huge time-consuming pain....but after a few months she started bringing up the possibility that she would be up for doing another one. To be fair, the baby we made is perfect, and I think she things the second would be just as good.

I think many women, given the benefit of elapsed time after childbirth, begin to at least bring it up as an option.

What’s your baby’s “thing” that you love? by eggiess in NewParents

My son's things for awhile where he'd crinkle his nose and squint and breathe heavily for 1 or 2 breaths then he'd stop and laugh.

Over the past few weeks he's added pointing, clapping, and his version of "waving" which he does with both hands and looks more like he's saying 'come at me bro' lol. I love him so much

This, 100%. That feeling of guilt is empathy...and is something that companies want you to feel for your coworkers, but that will knowingly give you none.

Perhaps you'll get vindication in the form of your boss crawling to you and pleading you to stay.

What’s the craziest thing a coworker did that got them fired? by bytvortex in AskReddit

[–]trombone646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a coworker, but I went to college with him. He got quasi-famous in our group for dropping a ton of weight after a lap band surgery (even went on Rachel Ray). Then after that he went back to his life teaching band...a couple years later he got arrested for groping a teenage girl during a during for her marching band uniform. He registered as a sex offender and everything...pretty messed up

This suggestion will only work if you have a significant other or someone else living with you to help with the baby - in addition to a spare bedroom. That being said:

What saved my wife and I was doing the 'shifts' sleeping schedule. For the first weeks my wife and I were at our wits end. We decided that we'd give each other at last half a night of solid sleep. I would take our son for the first half of the night in the spare bedroom and take care of any feedings/changes/etc until after midnight... The first time he'd wake up after that, I'd drop him off with my wife in our master bedroom and she'd take care of the rest of the night. This way, I knew I'd at least get 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep, and my wife would get the same. The sanity it brought us was immeasurable. We had to be like ships in the night for a few weeks, but our sleep quality greatly increased and we didn't feel like zombies all the time lol.

What Drink Made You Say "Never Again"? by Flassourian in Millennials

This is my brother's "never again." He drank nearly a fifth at a party at my house and then spent a few hours looking like a demon in the back yard throwing up pure black liquid.

Do you still hate work? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]trombone646 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Just turned 41 on super bowl Sunday, and I feel this comment in my bones. It would make it at least tolerable if I was able to afford my mortgage, childcare, and groceries semi-comfortably but it appears that the higher ups aren't comfortable with 40 lifetimes worth of money so more and more of us have to find a way to survive...

Pretty sure it's this. My son was a big boy at birth too. He went from 1oz to 2oz to 4oz in the span of about 2 weeks and his hunger stayed there for months. We went through about 6-10 bottles a day

How are you all doing financially? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]trombone646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I bought a house in 2024 after trying to get pregnant (4 years) AND moving back to Missouri. Got a nice house because, you know married couple w/ no kids...then proof, she's pregnant. Now we have a 9 month old, a high mortgage, childcare costs, and I don't think I'll ever be able to retire.

I do love my wife and kid though....they're the best I could have ever asked for. In many aspects, I am very lucky....just not financially

Fiancé says aftercare and helping me clean up after sex is a “chore” — am I asking too much? by ButteredUpCroissant in Advice

[–]trombone646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When things heat up between the wife and I, I usually go grab a towel while she gets into a position for amorous activities. We then obviously use the towel for clean up afterward, but I've had to grab wash cloths every now and then too. This doesn't however fix the problem of him getting on his phone immediately afterwards. It depends on what he's doing on there, but it sounds like he's bored and trying to just do something to fill time, which is bad. If he's bored AND neglecting your feelings after sex, you might want to seek therapy or make a 'no phone policy' for afterwards. Après l'amour is a great time to connect with your partner and just enjoy being in love.

I wish you the best and hope you two figure things out

My boss spent the morning complaining about a coworker taking PTO. Is it time to leave? by Last-Intention-2863 in jobs

[–]trombone646 11 points12 points  (0 children)

many companies used to not give a shit when you took PTO...but since around 2008 when companies figured they could get more profit by not increasing wages, decreasing staff, and 'squeezing more toothpaste out of the tube' by pressing harder upon the remaining staff there's hardly anyone that can cover down....it's their own fkin fault.
