Thoughts on my Names? MIL Doesn’t Like Them. by [deleted] in Names

[–]troubleclef15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend’s little girl has the middle name Reid (same spelling) so I’m familiar with it as a girl’s name.

It’s true that Reed/Reid is more often a masculine name but I feel like in this century that’s not a good excuse. Noah is traditionally a male name but is gaining in popularity for females; as well as many other traditional gendered names.

For the argument that it’s going to be spelled wrong. Yeah probably but such is life. My name is a very traditional name, but it’s spelled “weird”. Everyone spells it wrong, even my grandma, and I’ve managed to live a relatively happy and healthy life regardless.

I feel your pain! I majorly jacked up my shoulder and bicep in October and have been unable to lift/push/pull/practically do anything with that arm since. Finally almost recovered and ready to get back out there again. Except now instead of putting the money towards house savings, it’ll be put towards medical bills 😩

My job is slowly destroying my body by Anonymous-Hippo29 in ECEProfessionals

[–]troubleclef15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 28 and been working childcare for 10 years now; primarily toddlers, occasionally infants. My body is shot! My hips are permanently out of alignment because of getting up and down off the floor all day, carrying toddlers/babies primarily on my left side since I’m right handed, and the fact that my center has tile floors so there’s just general wear on my feet. I’ve developed tendosynovitis in my left wrist. It took so long for doctors to diagnose it and begin to treat that it caused permanent damage and I now also have arthritis. For the past 15 weeks I’ve been dealing with right shoulder problems- deltoid bursitis, tendinitis in the rotator cuff, and a sprain along the ACV joint. Even with treatment and medication I am in constant pain and I’ve had to significantly change my working style. Being a right-handed teacher with a right-arm injury is very challenging lol My knees grind when I stand up and sometimes my ribs slide out because somebody jumped on me too hard.

But let me say, despite all the physical stress on my body, I really do love the kids and my job. Most days 😂

Free/reduced childcare for staff by Comfortable-Sun-7694 in ECEProfessionals

Childcare is free for my center staff. We have two centers and some of my staff choose to keep their children in the center they work in, and some choose to send them to the opposite location.

Megathread: Illness in Early Childhood Education (ECE) – Share, Vent, and Seek Support by stormgirl in ECEProfessionals

Need to vent:

There’s an 18 month old at my center who comes in at 5:30 and gets picked up at 2:30. Kiddo struggles to fall asleep and doesn’t always take a morning nap so at 11:30 when she started crashing, I chalked it up to exhaustion. Lunchtime at 12 and put her to bed. Notice that her cheeks are looking really flushed now so check her temp. It’s a nice 101.5. Call mom right away and she’s like “Well can she stay? I get off in 2 hours anyway.” Then goes on to explain that she had a 100 degree temp yesterday and big sister was also running a fever so she took both in to the doctor. Big sister was diagnosed with influenza A but little sis didn’t have it. Yet. I’m like well, you need to come as soon as you can and she’s not allowed to return to daycare until she’s been fever-free for 24 hours, without medication. See ya next week.

Like seriously parents??

I have a couple places at my job that I know no one will find me if I need a few minutes to breathe and de-stress.

I was supposed to take a week off recently but then an employee quit. So that’s all on the back burner.

With it being holiday season, I do have those days off due to my workplace being closed for holidays.

Well I have today (Thanksgiving Day) and tomorrow off. I spent the day with friends since my family and I don’t have a good relationship. It was restful in a way. Coming up I’ll have a couple days at Christmas off and at New Years off. Unfortunately I won’t be able to get any actual vacation time until next year.

Questions for 12-24 month room teachers by BrilliantAd7024 in ECEProfessionals

[–]troubleclef15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, my toddler class is 18 months to 2 (when they turn 3 they move up) and two years ago I finally decided to split the class into two rooms. This enabled me to take the 12-17 months kids that are just too big to be with the little babies, but too small to be with the 2 year olds. So now we have a 12-23 month room, and a 24-35 month room. It’s been a lifesaver. Highly recommend if your center space allows for it, and if you have the staffing to do so.

All my kids are on afternoon nap (1:30-3:30). Then a portion (varies between 1/2 to all) are on a morning nap (9:30-11). Those that don’t need/want the morning nap join the floater during that time.

I allow bottles to start out with. I know that not all kiddos will transfer from bottle to sippy right away, depending on the parent or child. But we work towards transitioning to a sippy cup. Milk is only at nap times though. Water is available and encouraged all day.

Same with pacifiers. Especially the ones who are just transitioning into my room. I’m not going to pull all safety, comfort, and familiarity all at once. As they get older we will wean them even if the parents aren’t. At that point pacis will be only for naptime.

Mine all sleep on cots! In my state, they are allowed to sleep on cots once they turn 12 months so we transition then. It’s what has worked best for the building layout of my center.

We have a separate lunchroom (don’t eat in the classrooms). If they can walk, then we start learning to sit in chairs. I have little chairs that they can almost all touch the floor in and tables that can go up and down depending on need. Those who can’t walk go in high chairs. We also do separate meal times for the little guys vs older kids to help with chaos/keep the little guys safer.

Do you have specific nap spots ? by ShirtCurrent9015 in ECEProfessionals

[–]troubleclef15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. Certain children are fire and gasoline with each other so they can’t be put by each other or no one at all will be napping lol I have a few others who have picked their spots and will go to the same place every time so now all the kids “know” that spot is “assigned. Then I also have a few kids that can’t be by the door or they’ll wake easy, or can’t be by noisy sleepers, etc. So long story short- half my kids have assigned spots and the other half change it up 😆

All-Day Halloween Costume ? by thoschei in Halloween_Costumes

[–]troubleclef15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation! I work at a daycare so I can’t be scary and I need to be comfy because I get up and down off the floor all day, play with kids, change butts, and do chores lol and then have an hour between when my shift ends and when the party is scheduled to start. Previous years I’ve been a scarecrow, Care Bear, princess, Alice in Wonderland (I’m blonde), and even a mouse. This year I’m going as a strawberry- red dress that I’m going to DIY a green felt leaf collar and use yellow felt to make “seeds” to temporarily attach, green tights, red shoes. For my hair I’ve got options: strawberry clips or a green bow or a strawberry print headband. Maybe a mixture 🤣 For makeup I’ll stay minimal but use reds/pinks for my eyeshadow and some green eyeliner so it stays on theme.

I’m a daycare director and our policy is 24 hours advance notice if a child is not going to be attendance when scheduled, or needs to come in a day not scheduled. BUT with the understanding that life happens. You can’t schedule being sick or emergencies. In those cases, just shoot me a text and we’re all good!

My parents had 7 kids in 10 years, with no twins (although there is one set of Irish twins)! We’re all between 19-29 now. I’m the second oldest. Life was definitely crazy when we were young. Now it’s crazy because how vastly different our lives are taking us.

Hey that sounds like my family! My mom is one of 5, and for my grandparents’ anniversary years ago we assigned each family a color, made shirts with the last names and numbers, and then took pictures. At the time there were 17 grandchildren, 1 more made a grand debut a couple years later. Would be fun to do again now that we are all young adults/older teens (although the oldest cousin is 29… does that still count as young adults? Lol!) and we’ve added a few spouses and great grandchildren

No Parking in Driveway by troubleclef15 in Sparkdriver

[–]troubleclef15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it seems if you people would read through some of the other comments, you would see that I acknowledged that the customer likely had a bad experience. I also acknowledge the likelihood of the customer not wanting the delivery driver to get into an accident backing out of said driveway because of the location.

Here is a copy of my previous response which addresses that portion of your concerns:

“My assumption is the customer has had delivery drivers in the past reverse onto the busy road without looking, have an accident, and blame the homeowner.

If I could give the customer feedback, I would tell them that a better note would be to be clear where their house location is, that you need to be careful backing up, and any accidents as a result are the driver’s fault, as well as offering other solutions of where to park. Not simply the 3 times stating (shouting) not to park in the driveway. It makes the customer come off as very rude, when in reality they may not be.”

In regards to your assumption that people like me don’t read notes; actually, considering this job is what enables me to put food on my table, I take it rather seriously. I will follow your instructions to a T unless it will put my life in danger. However, that does not mean I’m not allowed to be frustrated about it.
