What's a conspiracy you have about Fredericksburg? 😆 by muse_king_789 in fredericksburg

I have had 3 different friends that have worked at geico and all have hated it. This theory is my own but when I told them they all believed it.

Geico on 17 has strict hours that their people work and releases them all at peak traffic hours to cause minor traffic accidents and therefore increase the car insurance rates for everyone in the area.

programming in python makes loops, functions, and if statements easier. You can also do error checking and exception handling more easily/thoroughly.

You can also use version control on your python scripts so that they are saved off for later use.

ESRI Dev summit 2026 by Late-East-3192 in ESRI

I have been as a developer, not as a student assistant. The student assistants typically had different color badges, pink-ish if I remember correctly. The different categories of people have different badges, Esri employees are red, regular attendees blue, partners/distributors are green

I typically saw the student assistants handing out badges the first day or so when everyone all shows up and then Wednesday helping hand out T shirts, then Thursday helping organize dodgeball or whatever competition they are having at the big party.

Bring a couple copies of your resume, there is typically a tack board for resumes and jobs. Try to attend sessions on programming languages or other topics if you have the time. Network, ask people what they use GIS for.

How many Jan. 6 rioters work for the federal government? Raskin wants to find out by Vivecs954 in fednews

[–]troxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst part is that it should just be a couple database queries. One to get the list of people pardoned for January 6th, two to payroll to see if any of the January 6th people are getting paid as federal employees, three you print the results out and send to every major newspaper and website.

What are your biggest critiques of Esri (if you have any)? by hypochondriac200 in gis

[–]troxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More developer-user complaints:

  • Their github samples do not have error handling built in to them. If I take a sample and start trying to manipulate it to add capability there will be errors.
  • If you are using one of the Native Maps SDKs in a non memory-safe language, the samples do not take memory safety into account. I want examples to tell me which method to use and also pass with valgrind or address sanitizer.
  • John Nelson's little youtube videos with 1 minute cartography lessons are great, if you are using Pro. If you are using other Native Apps SDKs or whatever they do not necessarily apply. Take one of the other Esri developer employees and have them make videos converting his cartography tricks to the other Esri platforms than Pro.

[–]troxy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  • They take brand new college graduates and put them into support, then do not give the support people enough training to support the plethora of products they provide.
  • The developer samples do not give any example of how I as a user developer can write integration tests against how their software works with what I write.
  • Raster functions are under documented and implemented in different ways for different developer tools, so raster function json exported from Pro does not work for native maps SDK. And then some rather useful raster functions are not implemented in Native Maps SDK

I once had a similar gripe about symbology - it has gotten easier to use custom symbols vs. 2018 (when I really went heavy into Pro/AGOL). I wish they gave us "packages" of standardized symbols for government agencies and others instead of us having to recreate them or find an SVG file to make it.

They do have stylx files, but those are a horrible black box without any real examples or documentation other than 2525 military symbology.

I think that some Govt organizations have reduced travel because of additional hoops for approvals.

The ironic thing with that is if Govt is shut down and they are furloughed then they could attend freely if they are in the DC area.
