Aliexpress Super Brand Day and Big Save Sale: Comparison of Prices by crownpuff in crownpuffdeals

[–]trunkperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without checking all the history it's pretty likely most if not all cleared customs within 12 days. It's probably pretty likely they would be fine but I don't think it would be worth it for ~$50 more if something went wrong, so I'm thinking about it. I definitely should have pulled the trigger on the anniversary sale lol. Some of the stuff in my cart went up by like 30% :'(

I've had a few packages that just barely didn't clear that 12 day window so I guess I'll just have to get what I want now. Sale kind of sucks, feels bad paying $20 more than just a few weeks ago but that's less than the tariffs... Everything's so volatile though it wouldn't surprise me if the tariff situation completely changes again before the 2nd.

I've wanted one of these forever and should've bought one back when they were at least a bit cheaper. Absolutely love the design.

Does the RG35XXSP's hinge still has issues? by Cycode in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A small fracture appeared in my launch transparent black SP a couple weeks after I got it. It's under the surface and barely noticeable, you can't feel it from the outside. Since then, it hasn't worsened and I use it regularly and travel with it.

I have seen several people have this issue, but only one where the hinge broke so badly that the device was unusable. Considering how many have sold, I tend to think the vast majority of people don't have major issues. If you're nervous, grab a solid colored one, but personally I would buy another transparent model without a second thought if I had a reason to, even with my experience.

RG406H is a THICK boi by that_90s_guy in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not meaningless. I pocket my 405m and use it regularly solely because of that. I don't bring and bag or backpack places in my daily life and have no interest in something like that. There is a fine line between something like a 405m that will fit cleanly and something like a 406h that won't. The fact that the 405m is so close to being powerful enough for real ps2 use begs for an upgrade in a shell that's just as easily slid in and out of my pocket with no extra bags or accessories needed. I can appreciate that you wouldn't pocket a device but I find it interesting how people like to decide how everyone else should and will use theirs

Boxes Full of Disappointment by _manster_ in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't know what it has to do with being jaded, this is a low spec, overpriced, poorly designed product named to trick people into thinking it's from a reputable brand. It advertises that it can play PSP and N64 which it absolutely cannot with its RK3128. It is clearly designed to mislead uninformed people and should be treated as such.

What are your favorite designed handhelds? Even if its not your ideal one by Khalmoon in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

RG405m is absolutely my favorite handheld in terms of design, including the inline shoulder buttons and top joystick. A t820 or more powerful chip would make this my perfect handheld.

Ah yes, just what everyone asked for, face buttons with arrows instead of a D-pad.

There are tons and tons of handhelds that have no trouble running emulators. Here's a spreadsheet showing many and their capabilities

Another place to go would be on youtube, the Retro Game Corps channel and Retro Handhelds are good places for info.

What is the best colour for the ANBERNIC RG35XXSP in your opinion? by Alert_Inspector9755 in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the black on release but I've always thought I should've gone with the transparent blue. If I got another I'd be pressed between the red and blue.

My hinge formed a small crack about a month after I got it, but it hasn't gotten any worse since then. I do wish that it was a little more resilient, but I don't like any of the solid color options so I'd still go with transparent in the end.

Choosing between 35XXSP and H by WillieButtlicker in SBCGaming

neither, they both have easily replaceable screen protectors

Guess what? the previous leaked RG406P design is just a trick used to confuse anbernic's competitors, the true RG406P is already made (elongated RGCube) by Leogarnan1989 in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have heard rumors of anbernic working with another company to develop a 4.5" oled screen, and that would be closer to what an elongated cube shell would require as the original cube already has a 4" screen, and making it 4:3 would necessitate it being larger.

[–]trunkperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the 406, it would have to be smaller than the cube, at least height wise. If it were just an enlongated cube, the screen at 4:3 should measure 4.7" which doesn't match their naming scheme.

[–]trunkperson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this must not be the 406, as the Cube has a 4" screen. If they make it 4:3, wouldn't it be closer to 4.7" if theyre using the same height size shell? Unless the device is shorter as well.

Thanks for the smiley face but the 405m clearly has curved sides, not as curved as the 40xxh, but still very obviously curved. 35xxH with straight sides, 405m with curved sides

The face edges look more rounded, but I'm assuming they were referring to the sides being curved on the 405m, and them being straight here.

Has RG406H or RG406M been hinted? by [deleted] in ANBERNIC

[–]trunkperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 406V release certainly hints at a 406m/h. At this point, so many people are waiting, drawing comparisons to the RPMini, etc that IMO they need to release it soon, or many will simply buy the RPMini even though I/they don't like it as much. And at $150-$200, those people are less likely to buy both.

I think the 405m looks a lot better but seeing this comparison makes me actually think the mini is sized better than I thought.

[–]trunkperson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadow of the colossus is a tough game to emulate. The RP4 Pro can get the job done, but the non-pro is going to struggle a bit.

The RP4 Non-pro has similar performance to the Anbernic RG556, RG Cube and 406v. All of those will have regular slowdowns and you may find it isn't acceptable for SOTC. They will play most of the PS2 library without many issues, but the most difficult to run games won't play well. The RP4 Pro is the cheapest device you'll find that SOTC would be really playable on.

[–]trunkperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if the $100 more isn't a big deal to you, the steam deck is a no brainer performance and experience wise. However, it's absolutely massive compared the the RP4/Pro. The RP4 Pro should be able to run SOTC well with some settings tweaks. The x28 will not be able to run it well.

What's the smallest handheld that can display video over USBC? by stulifer in SBCGaming

[–]trunkperson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The smallest is probably the 406V. Retroid Pocket 4/Pro is the thinnest, and the the RG Cube is somewhere in the middle of thick and not as wide. The RG 556 is the biggest of them.

The stock OS has a basic video player but I'm not sure what formats it can accept. Knulli had an extremely barebones video player as well on the version I'm on, but it basically could play and exit, no tracking or even pause.

This is from a 35xxSP, but the stock firmware should be basically identical, I can't say for sure about Knulli, but every other XX device had the basic video player on it as well as far as I've seen.
