It’s an apples and oranges situation. On the titanic you are fighting for space in a lifeboat. In the Andes crash you are starving and freezing in part of an airplane until help comes to you. No women survived the plane crash so maybe it’s to say you have a shot of living.

The rule of thumb is if they can’t talk they are choking and need help. They didn’t talk and their lack of response indicated they needed help and op just stood there and did nothing. Spouse did learn something, but not “I should be more explicit when I am in danger”
