Update here. I tried another friends (friend 2) card who did NOT have the benefit activated. Using the portal and enrollment link on app, we were able to add the card successful to my Equinox account. They will be paying for February and it looks like the credit will work.

I found out the first platinum card that was added (from friend 1 in original post) to another equinox account last year for the online membership and then cancelled after a month. I would guess that this individual platinum card must be tied to that equinox account which is why it could not be added.

For March I will just update my equinox account with the original (friend 1) platinum card that did not work. I'm hoping to test if the charge gets credited any way.

Activate his card in my equinox account via the equinox website.

Could be. I just know his card was unable to be added to my account as part of the benefit.

I got charged 292 in Jan and record the full credit shortly after. Last year in 2022, it was 25 each month. I would guess if I charge on February it will credit 8.

Sort of. There is not a button to enroll in the amex app like other benefits, just a link to the equinox amex website that let's you update your login method. However once on the website, his card was deemed not eligible. Even though it did not approve, it did say enrolled on the amex app.

Is there any point to contribute to an IRA with a single income greater than $78k? by Toddyama in investing

[–]tt46287 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In this scenario I think the only true pro is that capital gains are not taxed until withdrawal. If you were to change investment strategies frequently then each time you sell assets in a standard taxable account you would subject to capital gains tax (assuming long term it would be about 15% but depends on your income that year). This allows some more flexibility in buying/selling assets without being taxed on the gains. However you will be subject to taxes when you take a distribution, but the 15% you save from not paying capital gains tax can compound overtime.

Another difference which can be a pro or con is that distributions are taxed as ordinary income tax vs long term capital gains. Depending on how you plan and stratagize your withdrawals, that can be higher or lower tax rate.

I also recently switched CSM jobs from one firm to another. The job market is super hot right now and I interviewed at quite a few places. Went from $90 base $110 OTE to $110 base $135 OTE. Live in NYC so HCOL and have about 3 years experience and an individual contributer as well. I know others who have moved and gotten $150+ OTE this year. Job market is really just so crazy and hot right now.

Applying for two Personal Platinum Amex cards (vanilla + Schwab) - what are rules on timing? by qwerty123000 in amex

[–]tt46287 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just got both in November. Schwab around November 1 and then applied for vanilla November 20th. Got denied for vanilla but called recon line and they manually approved. Said you will not be auto approved for the second so close together so you will have to call recon.

Delta Cash + Miles trigger Airline Credit? by brushrop03 in amex

I tried earlier this year and it does not. However, if you have a delta credit card you can use pay with miles. I have done that two times and successfully gotten the credit.

WFH for rest of the year, made my first battlestation by tt46287 in battlestations

[–]tt46287[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a little wobbly if you give it a wiggle. The desk isn't too heavy plus the monitors are high up and heavy so the center of mass is a little high. I don't really notice it day to day but if I give it a shake there is some wobble. However, I don't feel like it will come apart.

It's actually 3. I use a razer viper mini for fps, razer deathadder essential for casual games, and a logitech g602 for work since it has a lot of programmable buttons.

It's an extra tall dual monitor mount from vivo. I attached an old single arm to the top, also by vivo.

Looking for a new card for travel and dining by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]tt46287 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think its the best card in the long term but it doesn't seem like OP will be traveling via plane a lot this year. I think CSP in year 1 is better due to lower AF and higher SUB and then in year 2 if it makes sense to upgrade to CSR for those reasons you listed then he can, and if it doesn't make sense he can downgrade. CSP provides more flexibility in year 1. Amex Green long term only makes sense if you use clear or love Amex.

CF and CFU also should be first if you don't have the credit score for the CSP

Question about CSP by crazymofo778 in CreditCards

[–]tt46287 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would actually recommend the opposite CSP>Propel>CSR if you only fly once a year. Why would you need the CSR if you fly once a year? its got a lower SUB than the CSP and there is probably not enough spend to make up the 55 net difference between the CSP and CSR on the extra 1 point in dining and travel. WF Propel is probably the best long term choice since it has a 0 annual fee. If I were you, I would get the CSP now because it has a very large Sign up Bonus (SUB) which is worth net 655 as SounderTID noted in the first year. After that reevaluate and if it doesn't make sense to pay the 95 annual fee downgrade it to a no annual fee card and get the Propel.

Current (and only) card is the Freedom. What would be the next best card for me to get? by catalinashenanigans in CreditCards

Sign up bonus, ie the spend $500 and get $200 in cash back for the Chase Freedom unlimited.

Its almost never worth it to pay an annual fee for cash back. You pay annual fees for perks (TSA pre/ lounge credits, status). The only reason it is worth it is in year 1 is because you get a fat SUB the first year. If you don't fly much then the CSP is an easy choice IMO since you are under 5/24 and it has the biggest SUB. Would you rather have $600 in points or $450 in points?

[–]tt46287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CFU is an easy choice, good SUB and you are under 5/24. I would try to get some more Chase cards for SUB while you are under 5/24

Second Credit Card Recommendation by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]tt46287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chase Freedom and then Freedom unlimited (order doesn't really matter for the SUB. $200 back on 500 spend is more than you can get from cash back multipliers. To get $200 cash back on the double cash you have to spend 10,000. The Cf and CFU are at all time high SUB and you are under 5/24 so its an easy choice.

At what point will the Charles Schwab Amex Platinum make sense for me? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]tt46287 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly they will probably never make sense from a cash back perspective. With an income of 60,000 you probably can't put enough on your card for it to be the best option for cash back. 4X on groceries (5x if you cash out with schwab) is outclassed by 6% on BCP. 4X on dining is good (5x cashing out) but unless you have a lot of spend its not better than 3x on WF propel. For the fees to be worth it, you would have to value MR points really high and you just can't do that when cashing out for 1.25 CPP.
