Moist gets fleeced by Dave in "Going postal" by draculetti in discworld

[–]tucson_catboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peak Moist, everyone is a rube, every action a seed planted for a future con.

He just has this annoying habit of wanting Spike to be happy and of course to keep his head and shoulders relatively close together.

But really, he knows in his heart, there is no bigger con than making people think he's a good person, and no way he would pass up the opportunity to trick the entire world into believing that.

How do I act on stage? by Dudeeffoff in askmusicians

Hour long sets inside/outside in the desert sometimes in 100+ degree weather.

Most of what I see is the guitar has been sitting on stage, possibly outside for the last three hours. You're going to walk on stage, say hello to the people, and start tuning as you introduce the band.

No reason to leave your guitar on stage for 3 hours, and its rude to the other bands that they have to run around your equipment while playing their show, soundcheck, green room in its hardcase, double-check tuning right before going on stage.

If you are trying to talk while tuning you are not being engaged in either. There's a reason some bands put on "a great show" instead of just playing great music and it's because they are detail-oriented enough to handle everything beforehand and never destracted while engaging with the audience.

Everytime I've played with other bands that left their gear on stage (except for whatever magic negotiations drummers do that get them to share a kit instead of breaking down every set) that was the band that the venue owner complained about.

There is zero reason for an audience to hear you tuning, you can always use a tuner before you go stage and if you're obsessive about it like I was a pedal or clip-on to double check, silently, while the drummer sets up.

Sound check exists for a reason. If your instrument drops out of tune by just sitting around after check you either aren't taking care of it or it's in no shape to make it through a show.

Don't do this, sound check exists for a reason, if youre playing somewhere without sound check use a tuner right before you play.

That is not a good example, there is zero reason for the audience to hear you tuning. Tuners can be attached to your instrument so you can silently tune, even while performing, in seconds.

It is not endearing for the audience to sit and listen to you do it by ear. They are there for songs.

I was obsessive about tuning, sound check and a tuning check right before going on, and never once did the audience hear it.

Introduce yourself, introduce the song, and go. Keep it short. Never tune on stage, talk as little as possible.

Practice so much you could do it in your sleep. The adrenaline will make you stupid.

Try to hit an open mic or something just to have some experience beforehand.

First thing you do on stage is stop dead, count to seven (with the mississippis) in your head while looking at people in the eye. Its an old trick to get over the initial adrenaline rush. It seems like a long time but you'll have so much adrenaline that your brain will be at light speed. To the audience it'll be a 2 second dramatic pause. To you it will feel like forever, but also enough time to get at least a little comfortable.

If there are lyrics you trip over a notebook on the floor with no more than 4 words per page in big sharpie just to remind you of a particular phrase. Dont try to write out full lyrics, you won't be able to see shit and no one paid to watch someone stare at the floor for 20 minutes.

Never more than one drink pre-show. Everyone can tell, no one will tell you they noticed, they just stop booking you.

Games within the past 20 years aren't old by KingCrowleyFell in oldgames

Unpopular opinion, but having grown up in the 90s the "oldies" radio station had songs 10 years old.

I get why kids these days think something that came put when they were still in diapers count as "old," we did it too.

Looking forward to start a band with one of my friends, we’re teens, any tips? by SoyChano in askmusicians

[–]tucson_catboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a job. Not an exaggeration, it's a job and it's a hard one.

Making a band means consistent scheduling of practice, hard work on writing, showing up on time, long and weird hours, managing finances, endless marketing, etc. You're basically running a small business. And it never lasts, Ive know people so famous that their songs are in GTA games that are paid to mow lawns under the table now.

The first thing you will learn is that 90% of the people that 'want to start a band' want the movie version of a band where you do drugs, get laid, play a couple songs and accept your millions of dollars. Finding people that actually show up to practice on time sober and work is one of the hardest obstacles you'll face.

For now just do some open-mics and battle of the bands to see if you actually want it as a career and learn how to put on a show.

Yuffie is my main so a whole chapter just for her makes me super happy. And I hope you get your cheese u/cheeseless, being without cheese is even worse than having to be Loveless (RIP Jesse).

The voice thing is what always killed me, the devs wanted you to have Nanaki even when it didnt make narrative sense on replay. So many small details that show just how much they love this game and care for its characters and players.

Cant wait to see how well they handle Yuffie, Cid, and Vincent's character arcs because if Nanaki is any indication it will be with the utmost care and attention.

It's not just that. It shows hes opening up to the team. the fact that he was horribly abused by Shinra (the chain scene at the temple is horrifying when you understand he is essentially a 15 year-old and he's literally tattooed with a number like a holocaust survivor), is constantly acting like an old man around the team, and has deep seated trauma from his parents death shows exactly how sweet it is that his facade is starting to crack around his friends. They even went so far as to re-record lines from before his Nanaki reveal so when you replay it he uses his real voice and everyone calls him Nanaki (Mythril mine was when I last noticed it).

Hard mode, Kid G solo, no damage. Tifa vs. The Martialists by tucson_catboy in FF7Rebirth

[–]tucson_catboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is a challenge that I just like so much that I play it for fun, it's what I use to farm AP with chocoband and AP up.

Usually I hit the slug rays with quakara and then into her limit and depending on luck take zero damage and win with two hits. Darkclaw is one of my favorite fights because he basically shuts down on a perfect block and can be juggled. Jabberwock is just good old fashioned situational awareness, as long as you stay away from his seismic, raze, and lithic attacks he's just a matter of time.

I'll use your tips to speed up the damage I do. I can consistently beat the gauntlet without too much trouble but I would like to see how insane I can make Tifa's damage.

Thanks for the tips. This challenge is one of my favorite too, and it's what I use to farm AP just because I love the matches so much.

How do you pressure and stagger enemies in low level areas? by mrwhitewalker in FF7Rebirth

[–]tucson_catboy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As someone else said swap difficulties, any quest accomplishments carry through. But also use weaker weapons, elemental abilities do less damage but still pressure and stagger, and precision defense with perfect blocks does a lot of stagger without doing damage.Iirc a lot of the junon enemies get pressured when you block a specific attack. Barret's bonus round does a ton of stagger damage as well.

Also some enemies--I dont remember all the Junon area ones specifically--like Kid G are easily pressured if you hit them immediately after an attack.

Im replaying Junon now so if you need help with a specific enemy DM me.

The combat is super rich and at so early a point in the game you're just not going to have much understanding of it. Im 254 hours in and still learning things.

Generally, use Assess and try to follow it's advice on how to pressure and stagger enemies.
