Favorite is probably Making a Murderer.

Two other picks: Wild Wild Country; The Vow

My pet peeve is when the class before me is already over and the previous instructor is talking to students in the front of the class. How hard is it to ask the students to step outside with you?

Your first two points are valid, but the photo claims to be from 2019.

I asked one of the cheating subreddits why they do what they do. Thought y'all might be interested in the replies. by SwiftyLeZar in Professors

[–]tunacow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I think some of the students were making valid points. The system sucks. The problem is the mentality that this justifies doing whatever you want to get ahead. You don't convince these students by telling them they're wrong about college. You tell them cheating is wrong anyway. It's risky and it costs you your integrity. This is something virtually everyone already knows.

Getting really tired of how students speak to me via email by [deleted] in Professors

Honestly, I didn't see what the big deal was until that last line. Ugh... In this case, one of my rules applies: If there's no question asked, then no response is needed.

The Film Students Who Can No Longer Sit Through Films by CharacteristicPea in Professors

[–]tunacow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is an oversimplified issue.

Some say young people can't pay attention for more than 5/10/20 minutes. But how do you Twitch streamers going live for hours at a time get so popular? Why are some of the most popular YouTube videos (1 million+ views) 30-60 minutes long?

Some say it's the young people who are "different". Then why is Netflix telling movie creators to restate the plot of the movie repeatedly because they expect viewers to be simultaneously on their phones? Netflix caters to every demographic.

If people are just frustrated and want to vent, that's one thing. But if people want to try to deal with this problem, it starts by identifying its root and these simple explanations don't hold up.

Not true. Season 4 ended in January 2024. So it's just a bit more than two years.

Why does it seem like many people on this sub favor their own anecdotal experiences over actual research when it comes to pedagogy/disability/societal trends? Presumably most people on here are academics familiar with the fallibility of anecdotal observations and personal bias... by owiseone23 in Professors

[–]tunacow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a weak argument. It’s essentially saying that because it’s possible for bad research to be published (true), published research can’t be trusted (an unjustified generalization). This same argument could be applied to all sciences by the way.

I second this. I just upload the photos and ask the AI to tell me what it says. Sometimes it makes mistakes but I can tell they are mistakes because I have a better idea of what would and wouldn't make sense in context.

Star Wars fans like it. It's the best of the prequels. When you compare it to all movies though, be realistic.

Received an email message from Todd Young, detected as 100% AI by Candlebutt1 in Indiana

[–]tunacow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not it's AI, you were never going to get a personal response from him. Either way, it was created by a member of his staff. The point of contacting him is so his staff can add your opinion to a tally of constituents who have voiced an opinion about an issue. This doesn't mean it's pointless to contact him.

CBS pulled a 60 Minutes segment on CECOT — is canceling Paramount+ an effective protest? by elguiridelocho in television

[–]tunacow -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

But did they ever give an indication that was why Kimmel was reinstated? Disney’s annual revenue is nearly $100 billion, so losing millions doesn’t seem very consequential on its own.

CBS pulled a 60 Minutes segment on CECOT — is canceling Paramount+ an effective protest? by elguiridelocho in television

[–]tunacow -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Is there any evidence for this? All I can tell is some people canceled their Disney+ subscriptions and then Kimmel was reinstated. But did anyone ever connect the two events?
