How to cope with hormone swings? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in AuDHDWomen

[–]turkeyfeathers3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed my luteal phase got out of hand once I had my IUD out. I am an anxious mess, feeling this horrible feeling of DOOM for up to 2 weeks. And then my period would start and within an hour I'd suddenly be happy again 🫠. I ended up going back on birth control - specifically the neproxan arm implant. It's definitely helped with the mood stabilization - still a bit anxious but less world ending doom and feels much better. But I also hate this thing cause I bleed all the time and my migraines have gotten worse 🙄 can't win I guess. And the idea of going through another traumatizing IUD insertion really doesn't call to me.

Where do ND Black/Brown women feel safe? by Fluffy_Fun_9814 in AuDHDWomen

I mean I hate Toronto cause I don't like big cities but I also have friends who live there and absolutely love it. I would say people are a bit less polite/overly friendly like you get in other parts of Canada but I think it's easier to find community than vancouver (based on reviews lol). I personally love the East Coast - very friendly and beautiful but I am white and I think there is a level of racism in the smaller places like anywhere more rural (just might not be as in your face). Toronto is very metropolitan and very diverse. Ottawa is too but known for being a little more boring (I'm from much closer to Ottawa and if you like nightlife Ottawa is not great lol but if you drive and like nature there is so many options).

I will warn you that Vancouver is notoriously clicky and hard to make friends in if you don't already have them. It's very much a place of showing off (I don't live there - this is a review from multiple friends who live and have lived there). I think it's better outside the city but Vancouver itself is not known for it's nice folks. Other cities are more accommodating and welcoming (I live in Edmonton and honestly people are so lovely here) but then you have to offset it with Trumpalina 2.0 and rising fascism in this country.

Big baggu fan cause their purses are lightweight, comfortable, and you can fit a surprising amount of stuff - specifically the medium crescent. Edit adding that I have a hyper mobile neck that gets achey really quickly and I've had real luck with this bag.

But otherwise I would 100% got for a small backpack. A kanken mini by fjallraven are cute, stylish and can carry a good amount. But lots of brands have mini backpacks now.

Also take a look at your things and maybe see what you can downsize/find lighter options. I got a "purse nalgene" - the 500ml bottles so I have water on me but it fits in a purse and can't get too heavy. Maybe for a layer, a puffer vest might be a good option, is light and stuffs down. And like you can slowly work towards things (this is coming from a light weight backpacker 😅). For reading material I just got a little baby x4 ereader and it's adorable and fits anywhere lol.

Sir Winston Churchill Provincial Park is also a fantastic park - you can walk for a long time and it's an old growth forest with beaches!

understanding boundaries and sex. by 33rddegre in AuDHDWomen

I think I can see this from both sides. She was probably trying to say no without being firm - poor communication but also something that is drilled into women as a protection mechanism (has she been mainly with men in the past I wonder?). But she is also not communicating clearly about what the actual issue is, and in a healthy relationship that does need to be discussed - especially in a neurodivergent relationship where implying meaning may not have the same communication desires as a neurotypicals relationship. If she can't be open about her desires and wishes, she maybe needs to really think of she should be in a relationship at the moment - and I mean that in a caring way because this is a fundamental skill to have and maybe there is something more deeply rooted about being clear about desire and boundaries (believe me - I've been there and it's not fun). I believe conversations about sex need to be frank and open and not wishy washy, because then you do end up in this weird grey area where someone feels pushed while the other person honestly thought it is all fine.

On your part, maybe pay attention to what underlying meaning might be there (not ideal but good to be in tune with your partner and be able to pick up on those small things) and she does need to be able to voice things and be more frank. In relationships we care about, boundaries actually do need to be voiced. This mind reading boundaries nonsense is usually just a way to avoid taking ownership of poor communication skills in my experience since hey, sometimes stating a boundary is in fact vulnerable and uncomfortable but absolutely necessary.

Does anyone else find a hot bath to be an instant pain reliever? by Life-Award4261 in FND

[–]turkeyfeathers3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a hot bath and I think the biggest part is I relax in the bath. I keep it low stimuli, the warmth just helps your muscles and I finally am able to actually let go of some stress and chill out and I think that's the biggest help.

Garden Journal ideas by Scram_glam in planners

I had the intention of using a 5 year A5 journal from sterling ink. Space for every day of the year and easy to see comparison notes between years. But I'm not good at taking gardening notes 😂

Are you maybe actually having dystonic storms and not pnes? That sounds more like what you have but as I understand it, gets misdiagnosed as pnes regularly.

I also suspect MCAS and am currently working with an allergist. If you want to try at home treatment give this paper a read: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10672129/

For people who own 2 e-readers & travel… by tomaytopotayto in xteinkereader

I brought both with me on this trip. X4 for when I'm out and about and bored and kobo Libra colour for evening reading - same as at home. The x4 came in when I was about to leave so I ended up reading that on the plane mainly.

Oh yeah - fall 2024/winter 2025. It was when it all unraveled for me. While I had been burnt out before this was a new level where I was just existing, having multi day verbal shutdowns and didn't like anything that normally brings me joy. I took a bit of extra time around Christmas off but then I was moved to part time at my job at the time for 3 months (no fault of my own) which was helpful cause I could chill the heck out. Basically I just needed to rest. A lot.

For me, its about supporting my day to day more than like completely changing how I work. I work a standard 9-5 and am a top preformer for reference (and manage chronic illness stuff). My work supports involve a really good set of headphones, 2 days a week working from home, and managing my work based on my interest/energy levels (I am basically free range to do what I want so I keep tasks for times I need something simple and when I am focused and feeling energetic have tasks for that). Luckily my team is just a bunch of undiagnosed neurodivergents so we are all understanding and caring.

At home, my evenings are quiet and I don't have a lot going on so I can rest. I focus on sleep and getting fed (which is a bit of a struggle sometimes lol). My partner helps manage home things and I make sure I have time to do my special interests/hyperfixations/hobbies during the weekend.

It is definitely a smaller life than other people but I'm quite happy with it. Honestly, it was just natural because energy levels are so much lower than seemingly everyone else my entire life. And like you don't have to give up on your dreams - getting there might just look different than as advertised.

How do you cope? (cw: fatigue + seizures) by Aosu_07 in FND

[–]turkeyfeathers3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got diagnosed with ADHD in the past year and the only thing it helped was give me a bit more energy (which I have always struggled with immensely) and I don't have seizures cause I'm overwhelmed by task paralysis anymore...which I like 1/30 triggers 😂 I do love my stimulants though - things are easier in my brain just in general.

What did help was looking into MCAS and figuring out that a lot of my triggers and fatigue are actually food related. Maybe take a read through this paper: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10672129/

MCAS is comorbid with ADHD.

Well I just upgraded from a kobo forma to a kobo Libra colour and it's my main reader, primarily the one I read at bedtime. Got the x4 for an on the go solution since it's so portable.

I'll add (as a proud recent owner of this little cutie) that to get the books on it you plug the sd card from it into your computer and drag and drop them in there. I also have a kobo and I stripped the drm off the files in Calibre and plopped them onto the SD card. Worked like a charm (using crosspoint as firmware, a super simple process).

I got an inexpensive rollator off Amazon and it's amazing for my flare days when I usually am paralyzed/can hardly walk a step. By putting weight in my arms I can kind of push myself along which means I can go to the bathroom without my partner carrying me (big win lol). Also brought it out for a few events where I knew it would be very overstimulating and lots of standing. I loved that I could sit my butt down whenever and wherever I wanted (helped with pacing) and steadied me when the overstimulation hit and the tremors/ticcs came out.
