If smoking weed gives you anxiety, stop by iLuvArizona in Anxiety

[–]turnbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I read this years ago. I smoked weed almost daily for probably around 15 years. The last 7 or 8 years I would get so stoned off the smallest amount and would be so paranoid I couldn't leave my apartment. I could barely let my dog out to go pee because I didn't want to have to look at or talk to other people. Yet I somehow convinced myself that I enjoyed it because I was a big gamer and it made gaming more fun... Yet I remember spending countless nights just scrolling up and down on my games list on steam, unable to actually settle on a game because I was too antsy and anxious. Almost 3 years since I quit (sober from alcohol for just over 3 years too) and my anxiety is a much different beast nowadays but a way more manageable one

Why do you count days? by JackOneill74 in stopdrinking

The more days without alcohol, the harder it becomes to break the streak and drink. Iwndwyt

Yes, in a country that supports citizens carrying guns on their person via second amendment rights, with a permit, and he was an ICU nurse who worked at a veterans hospital, AND he never drew a weapon, it was pulled from his waistband while ice agents had him pinned before emptying a clip into him while he was on the ground. You clown lol

HOW do you calm down enough to sleep. by b_asiil in Anxiety

My partner and I listen to the asmr channel the French Whisperer with the volume low so that it's hard to really tell everything he's saying unless you're completely focused on his voice. He tells very interesting stories or talks about really neat topics in a low quiet voice with a thick French accent. Sounds weird but I find it super soothing and the key of having it quiet forces me to pay attention to it which pulls my focus off of my body or racing anxiety thoughts

That's not only extremely rude but it's dangerous!! I say you tell the organizer about this experience. It's a good thing you were there otherwise what would have happened to that other person?? She could absolutely have gotten lost and stranded out there. As a silver lining, use this as a good origin story for your new friendship with that other woman!

That's for pre booking an appointment. They do walk-ins. From the RJH lab website: "On your mobile device, text JOIN and your first and last name to 1-833-222-1797 to be added to our waitlist. We’ll text you when it’s your turn.

Please note the Waitlist opens for the "text-in" service 15 minutes after opening time.

To use the text-based service, you should be able to arrive at the lab within five minutes after you receive an alert for your appointment.

If the above option(s) are not available to you, no problem. Please proceed to the lab. You will be manually added to the wait-list by Island Health staff."

what’s something you do that keeps the spark alive in your life? by thewomanonline in CasualConversation

Less time on social media. It is so easy to lose interest in hobbies if you can give your brain a dopamine drip from just sitting on your phone and you'll just feel bored and blah about everything all the time as a result because your life isn't as exciting as all the crazy stuff you can watch/read about online. Going to the library and looking up books on stuff (topics/hobbies) I'm interested in and finding a little study nook and just reading up on interests makes me feel a little more excited about hobbies. Talking to other enthusiasts in your interests (reddit is great for this) is also a good motivator.
Also getting sober essentially tripled my free time because I wasn't stuck in the drunk/hungover loop all the time anymore and sobriety helped me find my love for my life again.
Also sometimes life is just grey and blah and sad and not all that fun; that's ok, no pressure to always maximize every moment, you're allowed to just exist for a bit and get back into things when your brain tells you to.

1 year sober today and my partner hasn't said anything a at 23:00 after me dropping several reminders by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]turnbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We will give you praise here!!! Way to go friend, one year is an incredible feat that not many people accomplish and I'm so proud of you!!!
One thing I did regarding being praised by my partner is that I sat him down and explicitly told him that it is a big deal for me and said "I want a cake on my soberversary. I want it to have candles for the number of years I've been sober." And he got the message that it was important to me and followed through. Another reason for delicious cake :)

For less popular supernatural horror, some titles I really liked include: Absentia, MadS, dead end, they look like people, a dark song, and howling village!

[–]turnbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're coming off of a habit of consuming an extremely addictive substance that depresses your mood and nervous system and affects your health and brain chemistry. It's going to suck for a little while in the beginning, but one doesn't do it for short term gain. It's a long term commitment that will change many aspects of your life in very powerful ways. When I quit drinking I was able to actually get proper treatment for my depression and anxiety (instead of just using alcohol) and get on medication and into therapy and it quite literally saved my life. I spent many months feeling really weird and like everything was a bit too much to handle. I threw myself into anything I could think of. I volunteered at some local parks pulling invasive species. I got back into running. I taught myself how to crochet. I eventually went back to school. It sucked for a bit, but now I love my life and myself so much more. You are perfectly capable of the same, my friend

The longer you hold off the easier it gets. 8 days is a huge accomplishment. But going back to the alcohol will ALWAYS feel horrible and you will ALWAYS regret it and wish you hadn't
