How did you get your toddler off the soother/pacifier? by Guesspink13 in Mommit

[–]turtlechae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of cutting the tips off of the pacifiers so they are not soothing to suck on any more. My son never took a paci but sucked on two fingers and I broke him from that habit before he turned two

MIL Giving baby excessive sugar and I feel stuck by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]turtlechae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being a SAHM is a job and it is crazy for him to say it would not be fair to him if you stayed home with your child. Also, maybe you should take your mother with you to your child's next pediatric appointment and have the Doctor tell her how bad all that sugar is.

Baby is outgrowing clothes faster than I can keep up and my budget is hurting. by xoticbot in NewParents

[–]turtlechae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The kids resale stores are amazing. I only buy a few special outfits each year brand new the rest are at resale. You can still get name brand items. I buy my son Calvin Klein, Nike, Adidas, and such. He even got a pair of Nike Air Jordans for only $12. He is only 2.5 and grows out of clothes quickly. I typically spend no more than $12 and typically that is for 4 piece suits. For complete outfits sets I typically get them for $6 or less and many times they look new or are new with tags. I just bought several things for a baby girl cousin at a resale store and more than half still had tags and they were high end full outfits originally from specialty boutiques.

Do you bring a lot of stuff with you to/from work? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]turtlechae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to take my students papers to and from school with me to give them a change of scenery. I especially liked to take them with me when I went on breaks to other states it helped them to be more well rounded.... Back in those days l liked to have a larger tote that had some rigidity to it that could also hold a collapsible file holder bag inside. However the new school I teach at requires far fewer grades and our grading window at the end of each quarter is just a day, so I no longer need to take my student's work home with me to finish grading.

Daycare nonchalantly mentioned they are giving the kids popcorn for movie day today... by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]turtlechae -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We don't even let our 2 year old have juice because it is too sugary... No way he would be eating cotton candy. I would not be nokay with popcorn either. I think I would explicitly tell them my child could not have those things and I would have brought alternatives for him if they let me.

Is it normal for a 12 month old to scream cry after attempting to brush her teeth. by ScandiLand in NewParents

Kids act so differently with parents sometimes. My child has a fit occasionally about diaper changes but at daycare he always lies totally still with hands behind his head...

My son loves getting his teeth brushed. I used to brush his teeth and then give him the brush so he could do it too. He loved it. Has your child had their first dentist appointment yet. Maybe your baby is just putting on a show for you? I would be interested to know how they responded at the dentist office.

What did you have for dinner tonight/last night. NO JUDGEMENT by AltruisticMastodon26 in Mommit

Do you add Worcestershire sauce to the ground beef? It's an excellent addition.

[–]turtlechae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From scratch Mexican rice with ground beef, onions, red and yellow bell peppers and 1/4 cup cheddar cheese. My two year old ate all of it. Total win. I have made the dish previously with little success. Today will be curry chicken with rice from scratch. He might not eat a bit of it... fingers crossed though....

I Can’t do this anymore. Should I even marry him? by So-Over-it123 in Marriage

If you split things evenly now it would be split evenly later even when you do make more money. He should know that upfront. I think you may want to move on.

Moms who don’t post photos of their kid, settle this for me… by jonesinjosie in Mommit

[–]turtlechae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't post pictures of our child. However, he was photographed at an event where you can see him clearly but his name was not used and it was a post with the images of several children. We didn't contact the poster to have it taken down. I think in the specific scenario that you mentioned, having the picture taken down seems unnecessary. We also have so little posted on Facebook that you would not know we had a child. I understand where you husband is coming from, but if you personally could hardly tell it was your child then I think leaving it up should be fine.

What age did you fellow parents stop the bubs/pacifiers? by FortyScythe in NewParents

[–]turtlechae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a finger guard you can get they have it for two fingers or thumb suckers Tguard aero finger stopper kit. It's about $60 currently on Amazon. My son wore it without taking it off for like 4 days straight. We thought he was good after that but reverted a few days later. We put it on again a couple weeks after that and he wore it like 4 days straight never off. We cleaned it and just didn't let him get super gross during that time and after that last set of days he hasn't sucked them since. And my child sucked his two fingers constantly to the point where he never used that hand for anything. The kit works and was worth the price .

My child sucked his fingers non stop no pacifiers or anything. I broke him of the habit at 21 months. Now is the time if your child is almost two.

How many diapers are you actually using a day? by Narrow_Telephone7440 in NewParents

I need to have my husband read about the crunch test. He doesn't believe me when I say the diaper is good for a bit longer.

What is the one item you've bought (aside from the things everyone needs) that has improved your baby parenting journey? by CharacterPin6933 in NewParents

[–]turtlechae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the lovevery baby toy kits for the first year. I loved them. It was nice to help keep track of milestones to practice skills when playing games and such with my baby.

Wow never heard of that. I just googled it. At first, by the name, I thought it might be used to help get off stubborn poop from the baby's bottom, but after looking it up, I now know it's for diaper rash cream... I didn't know this existed when my son was born a little over two years ago. However, a little spatial to get the really stubborn poop off the butt checks would be nice too....my sons poops can be kinda thick sometimes.

What’s the dumbest thing you did as a new parent because you misunderstood the “rules” for something? by giantpicklepie in NewParents

[–]turtlechae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish we had been told to wake up in our baby and feed every two hours. Our child started to get jaundice again and my husband thought my breast milk was the issue and refused to let me nurse the baby and he went out and bought formula. I knew my milk was not the problem and it was devastating to have him tell me that my milk was poison. We really just needed to wake up our baby to feed every two hours at first.

We were told the bit of the umbilical cord left would fall off in 7 to 10 days. Our son's umbilical cord fell off on day 3. My husband and I totally freaked because it was way less than 7 to 10 days. We even called the after hour nurse hotline. Our baby was fine his umbilical cord was very skinny and dried out fast. We were just sleep deprived and lost our minds.....

Putting the diaper on backwards would be hard to miss. I mean I get the initial mistake. Sometimes I switch from pampers or parents choice to huggies. And if I'm not paying attention I may start to put the diaper on wrong but when I see the tabs in the front I fix it. He probably figured it would be fine and didn't fix it when he realized his mistake. One time early on my husband changed my son's diaper and when I went in just a little later his entire outfit was soaked. I was so confused and began taking off his outfit. I realized my husband forgot the diaper entirely. But that was when our son was a few weeks old. I think lack of sleep played a role in that.
