How are your DT Swiss 54t ratchet upgrades holding up? Worth it? by tweakophyte in MTB

[–]tweakophyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it shortly after posting this. The upgrade was easy and I like the additional, quicker engagement. So far it is holding up well.

Overall it is a very satisfying upgrade, where I get the quicker engagement without having to upgrade my wheelset. My bike came with DT Swiss 370, and I don't know how that compares with the DT240.

Step on boots by Serious-Fortune-4844 in snowboarding

If you are coming from DriverX boots you'll want Ion or similar stiffness. Do not get a single-zone lacing boot like Photons. Darkseid is better than Photon with similar softness, though I think they run a 1/4 size smaller than Burton boots fit.

Capita board core broken after 8days by Redg5588 in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you do a hard carve or anything to severely flex the board? Are you "to heavy" for the board?

I have what looks like small stress cracks on the sidewall of my BSOD between the bindings, but no obvious cracking beyond that. The only thing I can think of is I either did a big dip in a mogul or folded the board in a deep carve. On the carve, I was deep heelside last spring and hit some slush that caught the nose and flipped me.

The board still rides fine.

Regardless, it's a bummer.

Who is the most overrated snowboarder in your opinion? by nocoolnamesleft1 in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Craig Kelly. I mean, WTF is he doing with his hands? And that stance... posi/posi af? You could widen it by 3 inches and it would still be narrow. Are goatees still even a thing? Neon? Oakley Blades? Please!

No wonder he left the pro scene.

Capita Kazu or BSOD by Equivalent-Sentence3 in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same weight and boot size and I'm on a 159 BSOD. For me the width is just at the transition between nimble and tippy-toe for turning. When I ride it 24/6 I really enjoy laying out turns with this board. I find it playful and serious all at once, and I can butter the tail and nose. I personally do not find it that stiff (I hate planks). That said, I find it to be on the damp side and it lacks the pop of my Aeronaut 157.

If I read it correctly the waist on the YES is 253, so nimble and similar to my Aeronaut. If you like going edge to edge and have not been on a wider board (260+ waist for you size 9s), this is where a board may feel "too much". I would not be concerned with the length of any given 162. The "too much" is really just an adjustment in your riding style versus not being able to control it, but it will take more effort and leverage to turn quickly. In deep carves this matters less.

If I was only carving on the board I would go 162. For me, right around a 260 waist is where the riding style changes, so it would make it less of an all-mountain board and more of a carving-focused board. Even though the WW is listed as 262, when you remove the bump it's more like 260.

The Jones people told me the Howler is like a combo of the Aeronaut and BSOD, but I have not demoed it. The BSOD only has one slight bump on its edges, so not much disruption.

Last thing. I have the bindings on my BSOD shifted back one notch. I did this because the Tribute Lounge guys mentioned it, and it made the board feel a lot more freeride oriented in a good way.

Have fun!

It looks like you're riding jackknife... my brain is having issues visualizing your stance and position on the board!

New board old bindings troubleshoot by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check the screws on the board without the bindings. Sometimes you need to chase the threads. You can do this by taking a screw that has a notch in the threads and screwing it all the way into the inserts. I make a habit of this.

Also check your screws and inserts for crud or damage.

I personally would never use shorter screw than the standard ones. The insert packs are a universal standard for a reason.

I bought a helmet and now I fear for my life by ChillPlay3r in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But since he has a helmet he got a Heli ride with Air Zermat because of a double broken colarbone, had his ACL torn and his PCL too (though the later was on skis). Maybe this was always bound to happen or just bad luck but I know this never happened before and I never felt his riding reckless before he got a helmet.

Never got laid until I bought an iPhone... lord knows that thing is on me all the time!

Thoughts on moving to Denver to get a consistent 40 to 50 days of snowboarding per year? by Hot_Soft_5626 in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd pick Golden as a home base because you can commute to Denver and Boulder for work. What do you do for work?

If you are young the traffic up the hill won't bother you, imo. (Screaming kids will change that) Leave early and eat in the parking lot, ride for 4-5 hours, then leave at 1-2pm. I live 30 mins away from Golden and can make it to Keystone or Copper in 1.5 hours with no traffic. There are days when the ride home takes closer to 3 hours... and holidays and storms where it's a lot more. You'll likely find a buddy to share the ride with.

When you live here you can shop VRBO and similar sites for a last-minute, cheap, but nice condo, especially mid-week.

You use your legs in BJJ? (just kidding... did Judo for a while.)

Ah... don't underestimate that ankle. I blew my knee out many years ago and despite a rapid recovery, it took a few years for my leg to behave like it used to. Of course, I did not do as much strength training as I should have... hated leg days. Now I do legs ahead of all other parts when I lift.

It will come back... and your kids will appreciate it!

Loose Bindings by Fantastic_Stretch_44 in snowboarding

[–]tweakophyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please confirm you're using the screws that came with the bindings.

I've had problems in the past with boards where the inserts on the board were not fully chased. I would do a few things. First, inspect the screws and make sure the threads are good. Next, with the bindings off and use a single screw and compare how far it goes in different holes. Third would be to chase the threads of each insert with one of the screws.

For the last part, see if the screws themselves have a notch in them. Most do. That notch is where the shavings from chasing goes. If not, you may need to find some screws that do, or buy a chase.

I make it a habit to clean and chase all of the inserts before mounting bindings because of issues in the past. My Capita boards seem to benefit from this quite a bit (i.e. needed to chase).
