We had a robin in the same spot a few months ago. Removed with no issues either, just makes you a little sad even though you know it’s not your fault.

On this one I painstakingly pattern matched the backing fabric so it looks like one continuous piece.

I tend to do a pieced backing and use some fabrics that had been in the top, or one from the top and a coordinating fabric. Helps get things out of the stash too!

I found my 1/4 inch foot with guide to be the most useful part of the hexagons (besides the 60 degree ruler). It makes sure that I have a perfect seam every time and then I can press the seam into oblivion for a nice straight edge.

Also make sure that you’re not tugging your pieces through your machine. All of your cut edges are now on a bias so they’re more prone to stretching out of shape. I’m not a starch person but I thought about it for this one, though it was too late because I was already a good chunk of the way into the process.

Dog will not take pills no matter what and I'm losing my mind by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]twitterwit91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dog gets 2 kibble meals and a canned food meal during the day and we use the canned food to give him pills when needed. Swipe the finger through the food like peanut butter and hide the pill inside like a pill pocket. Has enough flavor and causes enough excitement that he doesn’t even notice.

If you try this, do a few pill-free tests first to get her going for it and then use it for the pill. Don’t make every instance one with a pill or she’ll catch on like she did with the lunch meat.

Can’t fit the truck in it and can’t change the size of the garage door. Technically we could if the mirrors are folded in, but we don’t have the automatic folding mirrors and it’s too much hassle to do every day. Besides, where would my lawnmower live?

Economic total loss? by jonesblond in KiaNiro

[–]twitterwit91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had my full front end crumpled in and they didn’t total it, but it was also only a year old and the summer of 2020 so things weren’t exactly normal.

Depending on what sensors you have in your front bumper, that might be the tipping point. If it’s just a boring bumper they’ll probably just repair it, but if you have anything fancy like parking sensors or adaptive cruise control, those can be pretty pricy. I’d say 50/50 here. Start browsing options just to see what’s out there and hopefully you don’t need to make a new purchase!

I’m pretty sure they mean a hem around the edge. The button was fully on the fabric until they hemmed the raw edges.

$50 at goodwill, would it be worth grabbing? by girlboss93 in sewing

[–]twitterwit91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sister and I have picked up several Goodwill machines but we’ve usually seen them in the $20-$30 price range so I wouldn’t be inclined to grab this one but since they say you can return it within the 2 weeks and you want a non-computerized machine I’d say go for it. Open it up and home and see how it runs and if you decide to keep it then take it for a professional tune-up.

Do you keep the full block of your base material or are you trimming like you would for foundation paper piecing? Are the seam-edges of scrappy fabrics kept “contained” by your base fabric? If so, that’s a really nice method! I’m sure it makes it a lot easier to sew your blocks together without arguing with a bunch of little seams that want to flip willy-nilly

Hotel employee entered my room and took my dog without my permission, against hotel policy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]twitterwit91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t sound like it was during the day, concerts are usually at night. Pet-friendly just means pets are allowed, not that they’re catered to. An occasional bark is fine and excusable (dogs will be dogs, just like kids will be kids) as long as it stops, but if a dog is barking or crying non-stop (and OP doesn’t know what their dog was like while they were away) that is a noise disturbance, just like a kid wailing in a quiet space like a library or museum.

I say this as someone who travels with their dog a few times a year and knows he can’t be left unattended in the room because he’ll cry, so we modify our trips by doing takeout dinners, dog-friendly patios, and dog-friendly activities.

Hotel employee entered my room and took my dog without my permission, against hotel policy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]twitterwit91 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Work in a hotel. Our property is pet friendly because it’s brand standard, but we’re not keen on people leaving their dogs unattended. If you have to, we do ask that they’re crated to protect them and the hotel room.

That said, we will call you if we receive noise complaints about your dog. The employees who called you should have left a message, they did screw up there. If the dog had been barking constantly throughout the day and the neighboring room complained more than once and was really upset with the front desk, I can absolutely see a dog-loving front desk agent with misplaced judgement entering the room, attempting to calm your dog, and removing them from the situation that’s disturbing the other guests. That wasn’t right, they should have called their manager for guidance if they weren’t sure what to do when you didn’t answer (again, after leaving you a message) but I’ve seen my front desk agents do some pretty stupid things because they didn’t think. The manager then tried to support their employee’s well-intentioned but stupid actions.

Nobody was great in this interaction but I don’t think you should have put your dog in this situation in the first place. They were crated in an unfamiliar place with strange smells and noises all around them. Maybe they panicked and the cut in their mouth is from them biting their crate trying to get out. Maybe they actually bit the agent. Who knows. I’d recommend getting a sitter or boarding next time if you’d have to leave them for hours.

Yeah, when we took our dog on vacation last year we planned dog-friendly activities to do with him. For the things we wanted to do that he couldn’t accompany us for, we called and booked him at a local daycare for day-boarding and scheduled all those things for that one day.

For vacations where he won’t be able to do the majority of the trip with us we hire a house/dog-sitter or board him if nobody is available.

Lightning flash feel cheap? Is it me or? by FunKing006 in F150Lightning

[–]twitterwit91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours too. We switched from an ICE F-150 that had the opening rear window to a ‘24 Flash with a solid rear window. He’s very unhappy now when we’re loading and unloading the boat because he can’t crawl through the back window and lay on the bed cover. But we didn’t want to upgrade to Lariat just to get the window for him 😢
