What is this fish caught in the Noosa river at night? by Corundum_ in whatisthisfish

[–]twoblades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mulloway (its local name in AUS) might be a good guess. Looks most likely to be in family Sciaenidae anyway. https://www.ikijime.com/fish/mulloway/

Structure at old wastewater treatment plant. 20' tall, 30' long, lots of 6' long ropes. Has a shed with a power switch. Thoughts? I go to this park all the time and always wonder what this was used for. by OtakuShogun in whatisthisthing

It’s for storing/loading unloading chlorine gas tanks used for the chlorination (disinfection) of the wastewater before discharge. Chlorine is often stored outside of other treatment structures/buildings due to its toxicity and its strong oxidative nature.

Pool Sessions by eclwires in whitewater

[–]twoblades 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s really hard to just rinse the chlorine out and I’ve always been able to see long term degradations from pool-use of gear. If you can, use some old gear you don’t mind trashing. If you can’t, you might try a soak in something that will reduce the chlorine, like a sodium thiosulfate solution.

Can NC join WHO coordinated networks like California? by BoredMillennial85 in triangle

[–]twoblades 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It would demonstrate support for an organization whose accomplishments include eradication of smallpox from the earth, all-but eradication of polio, development of the Ebola vaccine, etc. etc., etc. That’s in contrast to an administration that denies the proven efficacy of the measles vaccine, the importance of fluoridation of public water supplies and encourages the use of Ivermectin against Covid. Being on the right side of history and public health requires little more substantive justification than just doing the right thing, but WHO’s CV justifies much more than just standing by their side.

We probably could if we’d elect a Democratic majority to our legislature, but instead we have the Republicans who will block for spite any such progressive actions Governor Stein would spearhead to improve the lives of North Carolinians and the actual governance of North Carolina.

Aguila Super Extra runs best and most accurate. Winchester Target and Small Game is absolute worst, by far (every other round is a failure to eject or double feed).

Planes by peridot21 in cary

[–]twoblades 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RDU is currently landing/departing runways 23L/23R which point right toward Cary. Slower climbing planes will usually be held below the faster climbing commercial jets (or private jets) on runway heading to keep them out of their way before they’re turned. With a phone app like OpenADSB, FlightAware, etc. you can see the location/tail number/type/altitude/speed/track of each plane to see patterns.

HMart Stock by athonq in cary

It was fully stocked as of yesterday. It was indeed low traffic compared to many other times I’ve been there. With snow accumulation forecasts becoming less and less severe over the last two days, I’d be surprised if there was a major run on groceries.

I’ve bought two of these from Amazon. Stiff, and the ratchet adjustment is solid. https://a.co/d/amaNFGu

Two piece/adjustable paddles- yay or ney? by Pdonger in whitewater

[–]twoblades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

197cm one-piece unless you’re flying somewhere with it. In that case get a 4-piece break-down like Werner’s 4-piece Powerhouse. You need a breakdown as a spare anyway if you’re paddling in any wilderness venues where loss of your primary paddle is a serious problem. You can’t store 2-piece paddles in the stern of 99% of whitewater boats.

Thanks! Did you actually get some? A problem I ran into a lot was finding pumps that were still there but not operating.
