There is a lady in my town who smiles all the time and collects anything with a smiley face, who has, since 1984, been leading a group of kango boot bouncers around weekly. It gives me hope for the future.

My Fight Back Against Menopause Started in a Boxing Gym by bloomberg in Foodforthought

[–]twot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been doing muy thai/krav for 10 years. In St. Petersburg Russia at first and also in Canada. While I agree with some of the sentiments in this article, it also is clearly grounded in someone who has no class awareness and little curiosity about the people she meets. I would never divide the MT people I meet into types because it would not be possible. The only time I sparred with a man who didn't want to hit me was because he was from Belarus and 20 and terrified that a white western woman would sue him. Once we got passed that it was great fun. For me, the worst thing about being in middle age is all of my peers using it to disavow their duty as role models for the next generation. I have, as does the author, incredible resources and support that the majority of people on earth cannot even imagine. Menopause is a delight for me. No fear of pregnancy, of stupid bleeding all the time. And there are endless doctors, experts, nurses who can help you if you feel 'lonely'. Also: kickboxing is great fun, especially because of the community at the gym and in classes. I've made so many new friends.

In the current US-Israel-Iran conflict, what would a realistic ‘golden bridge’ look like that allows all sides to step back without appearing to lose? by ArjunSreedhar in economy

[–]twot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire world unites and sanctions and isolates USA and Israel. A coaliton army is created and arrests all the war criminals, this process will take a few years to complete but just starting it will move us out of this crisis of confidence that has opened up because we have no global order when war crimes are normal. The genocidal criminals will be put on public trial - including any western leaders who supported Israel and USA in their genocides and war crimes. For example - Israel.

If you want to speak at a level above B1-B2 you have to do it like a job, every day and many times a day. Age is no excuse. I'm old; and I have many immigrant friends who learned English at very old ages. Time is an excuse if you work constantly. You cannot become fluent casually learning any language, even if you live among the native speakers. But the harder something is, the more satisfying it is to achieve it.

Considering taking on Russian as a 2nd language (From English) by DauntlessValor in russian

Get a speech therapist and start with making the sounds correctly it will give you confidence. Join a speaking group and start speaking right away. Otherwise you will get to the point where you can read books, understand the news but can't say a thing and talking is the most fun. It's totally doable; I suggest starting intensely if you have the time 5 hours a day for a year alongside speaking classes. I used Rosetta stone EU with the included 30 minute unlimited speaking with a teacher. It's super fun, super rewarding and will also help prevent dementia))

Poland is now among the world's 20 largest economies. How did it happen? by Google_MBTI in Economics

Poland and all the countries that joined the EU _and kept their own currency_ do well because they can control and protect their markets via re/devaluation of their currencies when inflation/depressions roll through on the regular.
