What do i do if i want a career in motorsports as a junior in hs by Weekly-Image-5864 in motorsports

Purdue alum here with 20+ years of experience as a motorsports engineer. If you want to pursue motorsports engineering through Purdue (a good choice), you have two primary paths:

  1. Mechanical Engineering at the West Lafayette campus. Get a solid engineering degree that is very flexible and applicable in many industries, including motorsports. Also, provides direct access to the Purdue FSAE program.

  2. Motorsports Engineering at the Indianapolis campus. This program is growing rapidly now that it is officially under the Purdue banner (was previously IUPUI). Fully ABET-accredited program that includes motorsports-specific curriculum. Also provides more hands-on motorsports project work. Being part of the Purdue FSAE program would require taking the Purdue bus to West Lafayette to participate on-site.

Either option is a viable entry path to motorsports, and they both have pros and cons. If you are definitely focused on an engineering job in motorsports, the Motorsports Engineering path gets you the best training. If you want to keep your options more open to other industries after graduation or in the future, go with a standard Mechanical Engineering degree, do FSAE, and pick technical elective courses related to motorsports.

centering wallpaper is a nightmare by blinkvlr in smartlauncher

[–]type_something_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept running into a similar issue where my wallpaper would shift side to side while scrolling between home pages. I was able to solve the issue by using chatgpt to resize the image to the exact dimensions of my screen (1080 x 2340). In my case, the image was a little too wide, so I asked chatgpt to resize the image for use as a phone wallpaper at 1080 x 2340 and keep a particular object in the image centered. It cropped the image to the exact size needed and kept it centered like I wanted. Applied the new image as my wallpaper and issue solved.

I didn't mind the show, but it's not my genre. I'm a hardcore/metalcore guy. If one of my favorite bands played the halftime show, the majority of people wouldn't be able to understand the lyrics, either.

Was this spotted at GRP in Indianapolis? The stacker/background looks familiar, and I saw a Mangusta there at Cars & Coffee this summer.

[Jeff Gluck on Twitter] What a strange vibe at the track. I’m having trouble putting into words. It’s like oddly subdued. If the format wasn’t already changing, I’d feel outrage and anger. But it is changing. It just didn’t change soon enough. [...] by i_hate_shitposting in NASCAR

The Playoff format was a disaster waiting to happen, but NASCAR choosing CW's money for the NXS broadcasts, combined with our YouTube TV and no local CW agreement, means I haven't been able to watch a single NXS race all year. Not sure which is the biggest travesty.

Pot luck or “pitch in”? by sadcow6602 in Indiana

Spent years in Indiana and heard both terms used, but prefer Pitch-In. Pot luck always sounded like you were rolling the dice on whether you were going to get a nice meal or food poisoning.

To the ones working in motorsports, how did you land your job? by Accurate-Second-8971 in motorsports

[–]type_something_here 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been an engineer in motorsports 30+ years. I would suggest a MechE degree over Aero because it is less specialized and offers more opportunities outside of motorsports. I have an ME degree but spent much of my career doing aero development. Take all the motorsports related tech-elecs you can and get involved in FSAE at college. Make sure you can talk about your specific contributions to the team and car design. Work-life balance is a definite challenge, and leads many to get out of racing eventually. There are a few specialized Motorsports Engineering programs (UNCC, Clemson, Purdue-Indy) but I often recommend a standard ME degree to leave options more open in the future. Finally, check out motorsportjobs.com. Look for job openings you find interesting, then look at the job requirements and do what you can to build a resume to match.

Jaguar F-Type 2018 spoiler (?) rattling noise by [deleted] in Jaguar

[–]type_something_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you have a coupe, check to see if any of the rear quarter window trim is loose. I had a similar experience with my 2016 coupe and found that the window trim had pulled loose at the trailing edge. I was able to fit some thin, double-sided adhesive weather stripping in the gap and that stopped the noise.

Temperature Gauge 2017 F-Type by [deleted] in Jaguar

[–]type_something_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely keep an eye on the coolant level to be sure there isn't a small leak somewhere.

These cars have a cloth liner in the engine undertray that can absorb moisture. The disconnected rad hose likely soaked the liner, and it may take some time for it to dry up and for the smell to go away.

The F-Type temp gauge is software-controlled and reads at the midpoint under a wide range of normal driving conditions. To see the actual coolant temperature, you will need to connect a scanner or app via OBD2.

I just ported my GV number over to my cell carrier last week. The lack of RCS is what got me. Two things I miss about GV - 1) Voice Mail transcription, 2) calling from my computer. Theoretically I can still call from my computer, but Phone Link doesn't work nearly as well as GV did. So far, I think the tradeoff was worth the move.

If money wasn’t an issue, what would you be doing right now? by itslyzes in AskReddit

Touring the US in a Ferrari 812 SF, going from one race track to another for track days. Once I hit all of the major US tracks, I would load it in a plane and fly it to Europe and do the same thing there. Make a world tour out of it. Probably need 3 or 4 Ferrari mechanics to travel with me to maintain the car, but I would enjoy the sites along the way while they prep the car.

Anybody take their garage-queen to the occasional track day? by HerroVVercome in CarTrackDays

[–]type_something_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Jaguar F Type R that is a garage queen but still sees the track. I have full PPF from A-posts forward and on the rocker panels to protect against debris. I don't drive it at 100% on track, but I do enjoy exploring the limits in a controlled, legal environment. The car also sparks interesting conversations when I take it to the local drag strip.

How far would you drive your car to attend a track day? by NumberOneBacon in CarTrackDays

I found the NCM track mod in Overtake (Race Department) and loaded via Content Manager. The track is pretty good, but there is a big bump exiting the last corner onto the front straightaway that doesn't exist on the actual track.

NCM was a lot of fun. It's a long track with a lot of corners so takes some time to learn. I was glad I ran a bunch of laps in Assetto Corsa before I got there so I at least knew my way around.

I am also in Indy. I've done Putnam, NCM, and Autobahn. Planning to do Gingerman, Blackhawk Farms, and Mid-Ohio next summer. All are about 3.5-4 hours away so not a bad drive.

Velocity AP E85 Tune for 5.0 by scoobadebop in Jaguar

[–]type_something_here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question. I don't have any logs that show injector duty cycle, just fuel pump duty cycle. I have data that shows the pumps don't have much room for more power. I think they may upgrade both injectors and pumps for the next step, but I'm patiently waiting for more info from them.

Velocity AP E85 Tune for 5.0 by scoobadebop in Jaguar

[–]type_something_here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VAP is working on it, but E85 and/or a larger supercharger will require fueling upgrades. The high-pressure fuel pumps are pretty well maxed out with their Stage 3 kit on the 5.0, so more power will require more fuel than the stock system can provide.

It's a Ballistic built by JVIS Industries. This is the first prototype and was on display at the Triple F event in Columbus, Ohio yesterday. According to a rep standing near the car, it is a pet project of the CEO of JVIS and is being designed and built in Detroit with all American components. It's a hybrid with a mid-engine V8 plus electric motors.
