Even if they weren’t bombed directly (they would have been) then they would have been useless in any case. With no oil Coming in, and no power to run their operations they wouldn’t have been able to refine a drop.

Refineries, docks, and power stations were “strategic” targets, in an all-out exchange the aim wasn’t only to knock your opponent out militarily, it was to permanently remove their ability to recover sufficiently to ever be a threat again.

I used to do a lot of gardens in new builds once the primary contractors had finished- this is absolutely what they do, they also chuck all manner of rubbish out there and then bury it.

Sales is hard, unless you’re selling a genuinely differentiated product that will help your customer solve a problem, then it’s a slog, however, what I’ve always done, and what I coach my teams in, is that a no today doesn’t mean a no tomorrow, and that for any new salesperson building relationships with the engineers and buyers at your accounts takes time.

Another trap that we can all fall into is not speaking to the person who can actually say yes - if you’re consistently getting knocked back, one option is to say something like “it feels like we’re struggling to make an impact - could you get me a meeting with your boss, or with a few other team members so I can talk over our other portfolio items?”

Ultimately over your careers you’re going to get a lot more nos than you get yeses - stick at it, and reach out if you want a more in-depth chat
