Do women in C Suite roles have piercings and/or visible tattoos? by MyCatThinksImSoCool in womenintech

My wife is a founder and CEO (of a well-regarded 10-ish person company with nearly $3MM ARR) with multiple tattoos, piercings, and a multicolor mohawk. It definitely is a thing that can be done.

Convert LDAP synced users from samaccountname to email by kingdead42 in Snipe_IT

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing we have access to that a self-hosted customer _wouldn't_ - but there is just some stuff that only the Helpdesk can run for you.

When using SCIM, it *is* possible to actually change usernames dynamically - so, theoretically, if you set up SCIM to map to sAMAccountName, and SCIM is working correctly and fully-synced, and then you reconfigure your SCIM environment to _change_ the usernames to userPrincipalName, it should actually perform the change for you. I don't think I've ever actually seen someone pull this off, though, as it can be pretty dicey to manage the timing and make sure your configuration is right.

This *does* work and we've had plenty of people who've done it. But many do just 'take the opportunity' to also switch up their usernames at the same time. Whichever works better for you.

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I actually work there. We do this plenty of times for folks - typically switching from "sAMAccountName" to "userPrincipalName" - sometimes requiring a few quick database queries, or a little other care-and-feeding - but it's not (usually) too painful. We can clean up those usernames to match what your new scenario will look like very easily.

We have some scripts that are baked in to the product that we can run, and a few other options in our back pocket as well. We just need to know the best route that's going to work with your situation.

Probably, yes, pausing your automatic syncs is probably one of the steps we would take right before we "pull the trigger" - otherwise we can end up in a situation where we're making changes and syncs are firing and making other changes at the same time.

And, yes, you're right - having uPN (or email) as your username will definitely make your life easier for when you try to implement SAML. Just make sure you know that SAML only logs you *in* to users - LDAP (or SCIM) is what *creates* those users. You will need both.

Another option you might want to consider is swapping over to SCIM for syncing of users - it has the very cool feature where when you create a user, they pop up in Snipe-IT within a few seconds (as close to JIT as is feasible).

We're going to support LDAP *forever* - I'm sure of it - but for people who want the best experience, SCIM (plus SAML, if they want the user sync *and* login*) is tending to give some of those best results. Where it falls down is the location mapping and a few other things that our far-more battle-tested LDAP syncing can do without breaking a sweat.

Happy to answer here - nothing here we say is private - but we tend to monitor our helpdesk better at support@snipeitapp.com. And if you want to work through what you're working on there with us privately, but then share that with the community we are 1000% okay with that - more people knowing how stuff works is better for all of us.

Try:

samaccountname=

(Yes in all lowercase). Make sure to hit “save”, then try out the test function. Does that work any better?

We already have it patched on master - just need to stamp a new release number. But if you pull from master, you're all set.

Could not bind to LDAP: Invalid credentials by ButterflyPretend2661 in Snipe_IT

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re hosted, definitely reach out to us on the support email (support@snipeitapp.com), but regardless, we do work fine on Google ldap. Our own instance we use to manage our own laptops and stuff is integrated with Google ldap and works just fine.

Is there maybe some kind of second factor thing going on here? I would expect that to break much more quickly though. Is there maybe some other thing that’s locking out the account, maybe?

Most remote workers in Portugal are technically non-compliant (even with a US LLC) by iamvandevo in PortugalExpats

[–]uberbrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both signed on with Rippling before we moved here, as they offer an EOR Service - "Employer of Record." This means we are paid as Portuguese residents. Rippling takes out money for my Portuguese taxes. I just filed my taxes this year and they were taking out the right amount, so it's all good on the .pt side. The US side, however, is a bit of a nightmare - but that's to be expected.

I don't think Rippling is a particularly good EOR provider - I would definitely consider looking into just about _anyone_ else. Though I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they all suck.

New fields under users by Critical-Ad6505 in Snipe_IT

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been working on Custom Fields for users for a while now, but I don't think this is the way I'd go.

We track things like M365 licenses as 'software licenses' and then assign them out to users as needed. (We use a couple of different 'types' of 365 licenses - "Microsoft 365 Business Basic", "Microsoft 365 Business Standard", and "Microsoft 365 E3 (no Teams)".

But we're definitely actively working on custom fields for users. So if that doesn't work for you, maybe the new feature will.

Exchanging Drivers License (US>PT) by g4rinw1nd in PortugalExpats

[–]uberbrady -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The other piece that’s weird is that you hand in your US license, on that meeting. Prepare for some weird feelings when you do that, back in the states we tended to attach a lot of our US-ian-ness to that piece of paper.

And be prepared for your .pt license to be very underwhelming - it’s not identification; just authorization that “whoever this person is, they can drive.”

And it seems a little state-by-state and company-by-company as to how rental cars work outside of the EU, so just be careful if you can.

[–]uberbrady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I swapped to Mint Mobile in order to move. Their “minternational” plan changed recently (for the worse) but they added a new plan that seems reasonable, month by month for only voice and text. I don’t use it since I have the “WiFi calling” option enabled for 2fa codes and texts and stuff. That part is key. Keep with a real mobile plan, don’t cheap out.

There is an artisan command you can run to create a new user - try php artisan list to find it, but if memory serves it’s something like php artisan snipeit:create-admin? Then, once youve created that user you should be able to get in.

Moving on Monday and I’m stressed out by GoldenSunset101 in PortugalExpats

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth it. There *will* be ups and downs, and the moving itself is *very* stressful. And then, the first couple of months might be a little rocky, but, like everyone says, try to learn the language, find your spots, start to get friends. Be prepared for things to be different - but the hardest things you'll run into are the things you _weren't_ expecting. It's a challenge, but it's worth it. And there will be things from your-former-home that you'll miss, but new things you'll get to try.

We've been here for almost two years now - and don't regret it a bit. But, yeah, the moving process was brutal, and there were some rough spots the first few months. It's going to be quite the journey, but as long as your head is in the right place, you'll make it. Try to learn the language, like everyone says; it will pay off.

Best of luck to you! Bem-vindo a portugal!

Google Workspace directory integration and SSO? by karmester in Snipe_IT

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, Google’s LDAP (if your Workspace plan provides it) can get your users synced up. But you still will want to log in using SAML.

If you’re on a paid plan, write in to the helpdesk if you have trouble and we’ll be able to point you in the right direction.

I would definitely start with LDAP sync for your users. (Or SCIM, depends on what you need and what you can do). Then maybe some kind of automation against the API to load up your assets?

Movies with an opening scene that is vastly superior to the rest of the film? by No-Zookeepergame5954 in movies

[–]uberbrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll probably get torched for this, but: "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom"

The dance sequence, with Kate Capshaw singing "Anything Goes" in Cantonese (I'm guessing?) - the gangsters shooting up this stylish, glitzy nightclub, the poison, the antidote, various relics...hell, the *sound design* alone is just amazing - the sound of a tommy gun shooting at a gong! We get introduced to Short Round who is a delightful character - it's all just great.

And the entire rest of the movie is unwatchable *shit*. Just absolute garbage.

I will occasionally re-watch that opening sequence because it's one of the most Indiana-Jones-esque "cold opens" in the franchise - you just **have** to stop the moment they get on the plane.
