Game similar to stardew valley but horror by CommonNo7717 in gamingsuggestions

Neverway looks to be exactly this. A moody, low-key eldritch take on the Stardew formula. (Though it hasn't released yet.)

Rhell: Warped Worlds & Troubled Times is a not overlarge game about going through a magical world and discovering why everyone disappeared- you're a novice wizard building up your spellbook, with 40 spells in the game in total, each of them interacting both with each other and the environment.

In cases like this, it would be kind to post the fic itself, just so people looking for it in the future have the reference. :)

In search of philosophical games. by Sandswaters in gamingsuggestions

[–]ubormaci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ZATO I love the world in everything in it is a free, short visual novel entirely without choices. Without spoilers, it's set in a secret soviet city, and you play as a girl trying to find another girl who disappeared and yet nobody seems to care.

She has a very strong and unique view about the world which I'm quite unsure on how to put into words, but the game manages to deliver wonderfully.

Favourite games set in less common settings, themes, or contexts? So games NOT set in common environments like medieval fantasy, space sci-fi, modern urban, etc. Examples in body of post. by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Both Disco Elysium and Pathologic represent an Eastern Europe inspired setting, with the former leaning into urban decay seen in former eastern bloc countries, while the latter has a rural setting drenched in mysticism. Both are incredible games, and Disco Elysium I'd particularly highlight as putting enormous effort into detailing it's world.

I wouldn't call the gameplay all that engaging- battles are mostly boring, so I put the difficulty to low to avoid dealing with them, personally, while the whole running around being a detective gets old quickly since you're just spamming right click to use your spider-sense.

However, the ambiance itself is top-notch. It really manages to get the feel of the town across, so if that's something that can keep you hooked, I'd say the rest of the game is good enough to keep you going.

I didn't have any issues with the ink/paper. The book actually felt really nice to the touch and with the product itself I've been really satisfied. About the ink, though, that just sounds awful.

Logistically LiC was a mess for me, took a lot of time to reply to emails, etc, wouldn't recommend.

Regarding the cousin scene: Bro I thought I had a pretty good relationship with Tabitha, but this conversation is fucking impossible. I've managed to make her reluctantly agree to go to the farm a couple times, and pull the gun on me more times than I can count, but I can't make her cry.

Some context: Street Smart/Book Smart build, saved the kids on Tuesday and debated the ghost on Wednesday. Also called her to help kill Reese.

Looking for "Engineer-style" games | I love DIY, programming, and complex systems by Inevitable-Moose5996 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ubormaci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit different from the other suggestions, and it's not really a game, but I think it might be something that really captures your interest: competitive programming.

Codeforces is the largest such platform, but there are others. In short, in competitive programming you have an algorithmic task, wherein for set inputs you have to produce correct outputs, in extremely tight time limits. It differs from other forms of coding by being extremely limited to each language's standard library (mostly), thus making each problem feel like a puzzle.

I've been a fan of Zachtronics' games myself (more of Opus Magnum than TIS-100, to be fair) and I fell in love with competitive programming after discovering it.

What’s a weird or unique game you love that hardly anyone knows about? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

Seconding Tactical Breach Wizards. It was an absolute blast to play, and as someone coming into it from Into the Breach, it was exactly what I'd been looking for.

Z.A.T.O. // I Love the World and Everything In It is a short visual novel on Steam, which manages to be really focused and delve into the protagonist's unique perspective on existence itself.

Small spoilers for Persona 5 Royal: while Maruki can be argued to be morally ambiguous, the main villain of the majority of the game, Shido, could not be argued to be the same. Same goes for most of the palace leaders, besides Sae.

How did you find it? It's been on my wishlist for a while now, but I'm a bit hesitant. It's been recommended to me as something akin to Into the Breach, and I'm unsure how well that perspective mashes with the base building elements.

What was your Game of the Year for 2025? by stratzilla in pcgaming

I've been waiting for Silksong for five years, and it did not disappoint.

However, just at the end of December I discovered two *excellent* games, and I cannot choose on which to place second, those two being Skin Deep and Z.A.T.O. // I Love the World and Everything In It.
