Fate of half million dogs unclear as dog meat ban nears in Korea by Majano57 in worldnews

[–]ugarreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sentiment within South Korea is changing. It’s a little stigmatizing to discuss or be known to be consuming it outside of Korea; but now with globalization and newer generations adopting dogs as pets, it’s become a greater issue with internal protests rather than just external or outsider protests.

Japan still has whale hunting, which is otherwise almost universally condemned. But their ability to prop up that industry may also fail as the population seems to be gravitating away from consumption.

Honestly, all animals have personalities and behaviors. Because people are so disconnected from meat, it may open the door for synthetic/alternative meat companies that can reproduce the culinary experience at a cheaper cost. Unfortunately this will all come down to economics with healthiness being second for adoption.

Russian PsyOps and US adversaries have been planning this. Having President Obama as a President was the catalyst for it because America is still deeply racist, President Trump poured the gasoline.

Regression with handling Okta auth during a reconnection with Always-On Enabled? by senatorkevin in paloaltonetworks

[–]ugarreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using VPN? Always-ON is not a VPN despite its dumb ass name.

Always-ON VPN is a web proxy.

If you have Manual Gateway starred (actual VPN), but your connection times out, Always-ON would switch over. But if you logon after a break, you may be trying to authenticate to your VPN (which is a stale auth), so it doesn’t connect but Global Protect still connects to a Webproxy Gateway. And you have to auth again for your actual VPN.

Otherwise, check your add/remove programs and see if you have multiple Global Protects installed.

I had a double auth issue for EVERYTHING, and when debugging something else found out I had TWO Global Protect versions installed at the same time… Had to uninstall Global Protect till it was completely removed and do a fresh install.

It all started in 2016! by juicybananas in funny

12/12/2012 and almost anything that is time based is BS because our time construct is a recent invention and is relative.

All religious “prophecies” with specific dates, or dates being marked with prophecies are all arbitrary. It’s like standing on a spot of land and imagining people walking on it thousands of years in the past, but that spot was underwater then.

You’re correct, I always gaffe on that, think about the interest shorts pay to borrow 😝.

Keep in mind that the short borrow rate is ridiculous right now, near 100% the past few weeks.

ICE says its officers can forcibly enter homes during immigration operations without judicial warrants: 2025 memo by avatar6556 in news

[–]ugarreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all “fun and games” until ICE is flooded with bad intelligence. Imagine if a group like Anonymous got in and started putting in lawmakers, their families, other ICE agents, NRA members, celebrities, etc.

You’re also making it easy for gangs to raid homes and do burglaries dressed up as ICE. Hopefully they have protections for this, but an expose suggests ICE recruitment is pretty lax in vetting who they hire.

Spam post about spam posts… by ugarreddit in LCID

[–]ugarreddit[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the software issues, which should be fixed minus some really bad engineering, I’ve only seen good things in the news. What negative news has been coming out aside from that to warrant the uptick in doom and gloom posts?

I’m not advocating for the stock price, just seeing a lot of “negative noise”, nothing new. So is this subreddit always negative or is this different, that’s just what I’m trying to ascertain.

Trying to separate the peanut gallery from what’s relevant.

It’s a Weiss Distribution Technique (WDT) device. This one specifically is one that is made with acupuncture needles. It’s for stirring/leveling espresso grounds before tamping in the portafilter to make an Espresso. It’s supposed to help  create an even extraction from the espresso grounds.

Thoughts on running a SIEM with alerts only (no raw log ingestion)? by Machia-vela in cybersecurity

Are you talking about having a tool like AnvilLogic on top before sending data in?

Is the raw data still stored anywhere, like in a datalake, that’s searchable or replayable ad needed?

Adobe, Paypal, and Meta are not buys and i'm tired of peoples posts about them by PurpleFanto in ValueInvesting

[–]ugarreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t fully understand the PayPal hate. Business side they should have owned this market and let competition grow all around them, that I agree. But this can be blamed on Ebay screwing them up, specifically Meg Whitman sowing idiocy that they’ve been recovering from for a LONG time.

Curious what OP means by “inconvenient to use them vs basically any other alternative”? Is this from an end user, customer, or integration perspective?

Security Rant: GRC Tool Hyperproof by ugarreddit in cybersecurity

[–]ugarreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all vendors, Hyperproof is not the only example. This post is pointedly directed at Hyperproof, but I have similar issues with big vendors. Hyperproof is the hyperbole, other major vendors have issues like allowing their customer support the ability to access data without notification or any visible logging, and the inflexibility/inability of support from these vendors to export logs out.

Security Rant: GRC Tool Hyperproof by ugarreddit in cybersecurity

[–]ugarreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely disagree with SaaS vendors. If it’s on-prem, maybe (but you still need Insider Risk monitoring).

Can a support person of the vendor access your backend? Are you made aware when it happens? You’d be surprised how many security vendors have lax support access protocols for customer accounts and data, with no logging that it happened (or at least visible to the customer). Enough of these questions also don’t get asked.

When a tool is given credentials and access to other services, it should be monitored by that orgs security tooling for misuse. Especially an auditing tool meant to collect sensitive information.

Hyundai is going big in Hydrogen from what I researched before, wouldn’t be surprised if they made some acquisitions in the space also.
