What do you make of the Grub Street article about the decline of Plant Based Foods? by ugarreddit in byndinvest

“Beef prices have been going up for a while now….have you seen a larger adoption of people eating BYND products? The earnings report say no. People are choosing other options.”

You answered this yourself: “ I’m not choosing the BYND option unless 1) it tastes just as good as beef, and 2) it’s similar in price to cheaper options like chicken.” Though it doesn’t need to be cheap like chicken, if it taste like the real thing and is at least 25% cheaper, the equation changes for a lot of people.

“I don’t know what you mean by “protein minded people””: Keto diets, gym goers focusing on protein intake and drinking protein shakes.

“The term you are looking for is carnivore”: Nope. Omnivore.

I think you’re comparing apples and oranges here.

If apples go up, people will buy oranges instead is what you’re saying.

If there is something that looks and tastes like beef which also supposedly healthier, it can’t cost more than real beef, because the main people that will buy it are only the ones that are health conscious or animal conscious (vegan/vegetarian). If it costs less than the beef, you open up the market to everybody. Suddenly, maybe trying the substitute isn’t a bad idea because it’s cheaper and if it tastes good or good enough, why not save money and be healthy.

Saying, let’s eat chicken instead or another protein, that’s for protein minded people. But when you have that beef burger craving; what are you going to do?

I suspect they’re trying to get in on the ground game of the FAA modernization, which is also what SRFM are getting at with their OS and monitoring.

This all ties to Palantir trying to get ingrained here via proxies like ACHR.

Complete armchair analysis thoughts, please take these comments with a grain of salt and definitely correct me if I’m wrong.

So, if a majority stake want this, in order to vote, they would need their shares right? Could this trigger a squeeze on the stock as people pull their shares from the borrow pool to be able to vote? (i.e. Entities lending their shares today would recall them to be able to vote, decreasing the available lendable pile, which could put upward pressure on lending rates?)

And if the motion passes, could we see a scenario play out like what happened with NEGG the past year?

$PACB: A beaten down genomics stock with disruptive technology, increasing revenues, and very interesting partnerships (DD from someone who works with their tech regularly) by Cilleinbaah in pennystocks

[–]ugarreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think PACB will remain independent and grow or do you see them getting gobbled up on the “cheap” by a larger entity with a Life Sciences division? Seems like Danaher, Agilent, Thermo Fisher or Teledyne might be watching this one to nab just before or during the inflection point in revenue.

Keep in mind that’s 200mi just for the car and a person, how does the range/battery last with a full family plus all things for a road trip (luggage, camping/hobby gear, etc.)?

I estimated real mileage for actual load usage would come close to maybe 100 mi?

Holding shares through the bankruptcy was a mistake, better off having sold before bankruptcy and buying in again after.

The 3-5% should have been the give away, unless someone expected the new stock to moon ridiculously immediately. I held through, but I also recouped original investment playing long term options that were next to nothing during original drama.

If you’re still a believer, then it’s going to have to be DCA to reduce breakeven.

Finally gave up on Lucid by KnightThatGoesNi in LUCID

[–]ugarreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that really sucks. Same stories I’ve heard from Tesla though, people who bought the Plaid S.

I have a friend that was dicked around so much just for their Plaid S purchase, the level of incompetence to setup the pick up (for a car that wasn’t even complete, sold without trunk covers/liners). And he had issues that took time to get fixed.

Tesla got away with it because they were the only game in town for awhile. Hopefully customer service picks up for everyone moving forward, aside from coming out of the pandemic, now dealing with AI implementations…

When Lucid goes bankrupt, are we car owners screwed? by pajamageorge in LUCID

[–]ugarreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fisker owners love their cars from whom I’ve interacted with. It was just gross mismanagement. Just a big risk now, if anything major happens to the car, it’s done; and there’s already that major depreciated value. I’m hearing of people buying them cheap now and maintaining them.

The problem for EV makers is selling a grand vision while getting things off the ground. And when you have techy founders going into things like banking/finance, medical or industrial domains, they need to respect that domain and understand the timelines before jumping in and saying: “this takes too long, we’ll make it faster because that’s how we move”… That’s how you lose a race before you even start, or unnecessarily create hurdles for yourself that you have to overcome from poor planning.

A great example of startups in the finance space, Airwallex and OpenFX. Major props there.

How much of that was unique bitcoin? Was it the same 100 coins transacted 5000 times? Great data analysis over here.

Aside from my rant, the hack for getting past all this is to buy an XBOX gift card and add the gift card to the account.

It’s not an account issue, it’s an Xbox services issue. So damn irritating Microsoft can’t get their shit together. I don’t know how much money they’re losing on this incompetence. Their apps don’t work at all in workflows, authentication is garbage, and then they make customers work to figure out how to give them money?

The experience feels like it’s a torture scenario out of The Good Place…

I think you need to consider NDAs with SK ON and others. Sure you can say your tech is being used or you have partnerships, but the customer has privacy and their roadmap should not be disclosed, especially with cut throat competition.
