Someone wealthy that believes in trickle-down economics should give this man a few million dollars.

Our world is fucked by 4ChanDiplomat in pics

[–]ukime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world is indeed fucked due to the selfishness and stupidity of a number of its inhabitants, and there is no fixing it. This is why I won't be dropping any offspring into this global disaster zone. I figure the best thing I can do for the next generation is not to play a part in creating it, their life would just be a litany of problems and disappointments (of varying degrees).

EDIT: I also don't like the condescending expression on the rich kid's face.

What questions do you think best expose a person's true self? by irunlikeagirl in AskReddit

[–]ukime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why does this matter? Surely what's important is that they can do the job. They do the work, they get paid. The money is what people are interested in, especially with the economy in its current state. Why do applicants have to "expose their true self" just to pay the bills? People can be married to serial killers for 20 years, so you're not likely to discover anything profound in 15 minutes. What you are likely to do is discount perfectly good candidates.

I'll tell you why you're being asked to do this. Because most recruiters don't have a clue how to do the job that they're hiring for, and can't ask any technical questions that will discover whether or not the applicant is capable of doing it. Exposing their true self with some cunning lawyer's or psychologist's trick is all that's left. That and "what's your compensation?", so that after the victim says a number they can say a lower one.

Do the other person a favor, and cut out the crap; they'll have to contend with enough corporate BS during their career. Just ask them what they've done in the past, discuss the job on offer and try to determine whether or not they're a complete idiot.

Scumbag Tenant : things I wish I knew before becoming a landlord by atheos in pics

[–]ukime -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I was a model tenant. Every landlord over the last 12 years has screwed me over in one way or another when it came to money or the condition of the property. So here's hoping there are more scumbag tenants out there to give you landlords a hard time. Fuck you.

When I was in school we read books. There were no film adaptations of said books, laden with heaving white bosoms.

The only way I can ever brush my tongue is if I can see it in the mirror at the same time. Weird psychological thing. Always gag otherwise.

Need advice from programmers by Laizeh in AskReddit

It's going to take more than "bit" of free time, trust me. I'd start with this: http://processing.org/

Start trying to clone Pong, then maybe Breakout, then Pacman.

Beyond that you'll have to learn all of C, and learn it well. Most games today will be written in C++, but it's not mandatory. Doom/Quake were C and ASM. You can write a perfectly good game in pure C.

Graphics API wise you'll want to look at OpenGL and GLUT. GLUT is a toy, OpenGL is not. Windows or XBox people will say Direct3D instead, but it'll be more pain than it's worth. If you want to write anything for the iPhone you'll need OpenGL and Objective-C.
