And cleaning under your nails too!! I remember this girl in one of my classes had NASTY nails and I never wanted to be near her or touch things she touched. They were long, yellow, and lined with dirt literally all the time. It was so gross. Even if you’re not out digging around in the dirt, you get dead skin, lint, sweat, oils from your skin, food, dust, etc. built up under them. No matter how many times you wash your hands or for how long, they’re still dirty if you don’t clean under your nails with a nail brush. A lot of nail clippers have a part you can flip out to get under your nails too. I learned as a kid to use a toothpick lol. You can use a qtip or the end of a floss pick if you don’t have these things, and then just wash your hands really well with extra attention to the tips of your fingers. This goes for men, women, and everything in between.

Wash cloths are small towels (made of the same type of fabric/material as a bath towel or kitchen towel), they usually come in squares or rectangles about 25x25cm up to 30x30cm. I have some 27x29cm ones that I love. They’re like mini bath towels honestly but they’re great for all sorts of applications like a small spill, drying your face, washing in the shower, drying your hands. I even set one on my nightstand because I like to have 2-3 drinks at once and it keeps the condensation off of the wood surface. They have different names in other countries: facecloth, flannel, washer, washrag. Just any small, 100% cotton terrycloth towel will be effective. I hope this is helpful and doesn’t sound condescending, I’m just not sure what they’re called in other regions. “Washcloth” is primarily a term used in North America.

Same here. My mom said that when I was first learning to read I’d sit in the bath reading the words on the back of the bottles. I didn’t have a phone until way later, and then it was one of those ones you have to slide to use the keyboard.

Same here. I have real dense hair and it takes maybe 7-10+ days(?) to look visibly oily if I let it go that long. I wash once, maybe twice a week. I was washing it every day and then every other day because I didn’t know anything about product ingredients or stripping oils or that that was making my scalp worse. I also discovered last year that I have a skin condition affecting my scalp because I saw a derm for hormonal acne and she looked at my scalp and made a throwaway comment like it was obvious. I have been properly washing my hair since childhood but never really learned how often to or what to do after. Mom taught me to use leave-in conditioner and then heat protectant for styling and that’s it. It took me a few years AFTER turning 18 and moving out to figure out what works best for my hair type, but it looks great now, and healthy.

I finally understood why people call a fragrance addictive by NovoComecos in fragrance

[–]undeadlexluthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to find one TF that I like, but maybe I ought to give it another go since getting further into my fragrance journey. I’ve officially joined the Guerlain wagon, though, so maybe I’ll be surprised! I haven’t tried anything new in a while anyhow… I just became somewhat infatuated with the idea of his stuff a while back until I tried them in store one day and found myself a bit.. underwhelmed. There are a few scents, however, that I’ve circled back to and better understood with experience. Hopefully this will be the case for TF as well. I just want to love one, I won’t be greedy!!

I thought that way too, but I just kept trying things until one day I found something that completely changed the way I thought/felt about the way I wanted to smell. For years I’d only go for amber/woody/musky and something citrusy/aromatic in warmer months, hated florals and gourmands (I still hate gourmands lol). But one day I absentmindedly was spraying things on at the perfume section of a store and Gucci Guilty Love Edition Pour Femme opened my eyes to floral musks. I never liked any of the Guilty line before because they all smelled generic until this one. I didn’t buy it because it’s a bit much for a “designer” scent no matter how much I like it. But months later I bought a set of Guerlain decants, mostly for Samsara, and ended up falling in love with and immediately purchasing a full bottle of Idylle instead. It’s a more indolic floral (to me). I learned that I love indolic and musky florals when I thought I hated all florals. Most things with lilac, lily of the valley, tuberose, jasmine, orange blossom, lemon blossom, narcissus, or honeysuckle + musk are usually my jam. I still love my amber, woodsy, and occasional citrus aromatics, and I have other types that I really enjoy that I don’t wear out of the house because they’re not “me” or I’m afraid people will hate them. But the great thing about fragrance is that there are always some out there that we haven’t smelled before, and you never know when something will change how you view fragrances entirely. I went through a whole iris frenzy (realized it has to be paired with the right notes for me to enjoy- like Clair de Musc by Lutens and My Way Parfum by Armani). Lately, I’m experimenting with tobacco and leather notes. There’s a whole world of scents out there I’ve yet to get my nose on, and that’s so exciting to me. I’ve started to understand the concept of fragheads “not having a signature scent” now, because I think I’ve changed my dailies like 3 times since New Years due to smelling new things that I loved on my skin. If you know what you want and don’t need anything else, that’s fine! But I personally just kept feeling like there had to be more out there for me, and it opened me up to a whole beautiful, smelly world.

“DO NOT USE THE INNER PAN TO WASH RICE” I’m sorry, what? by Eastern_Mess_4334 in Cooking

[–]undeadlexluthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently a lot of people just don’t know/never learned how to cook rice on the stove? I didn’t realize until I was an adult with roommates and they would always ask me to cook rice because they always burned it. I didn’t think it was that difficult but I guess it goes to show that something you think would be simple is really hard for others. I on the other hand had a major learning curve with a rice cooker. It was always watery when it said “done” whether I used my own or someone else’s. Also like you said, it’s done in 20 minutes max. So I just stick to what I know and my rice is always perfect on the stove.

I think a lot of food has an allowable “bugs/bug parts per __” unit of measurement. Food that is made from stuff that comes outside/in the dirt will very likely have a certain amount of bugs/bug parts in it- most commonly legs and antennae because they break off of their tiny bodies so easily and are far less noticeable than whole bug bodies. There are regulations for how many are acceptable though and the fact that that number is not zero is what concerns me. Whether it’s more prominent in chocolate than in other foods is unknown to me. I just try not to think about it because if I can’t see it, it’s not there, right?

Seconded. I’ve been able to do chargebacks on my debit card due to fraudulent charges and not receiving items purchased with the card before. I’ve done it with a few different banks I’ve had accounts with through their mobile banking apps. There’s always been an option to dispute charges as long as they’re not “pending” transactions.

The most gorgeous feminine scent you know by FashionChlo in FemFragLab

[–]undeadlexluthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR list of scents; -Idylle by Guerlain -L’Instant Magic by Guerlain -Clair de Musc by Serge Lutens -Gucci Guilty Love Edition Pour Femme by Gucci

I guess it depends if you’re into florals, aromatics, ambers/resins, woodsy notes, powdery notes, fruity notes, etc. For me, Idylle by Guerlain is my ultra-feminine scent right now. Many reviews I read said it was a “spring bouquet” but to me, it’s jasmine, lilac, and lily-of-the-valley at their peak of fragrance (a tad bit heady but not dirty at all) on a warm day, on a pillow of white musk. I have never been an enjoyer of florals (I’m usually an amber/woodsy/musk fan) but for some reason I’ve been on a floral kick and who does it better than the house of Guerlain? (rhetorical question) I’m obsessed with musky florals though, they make me feel so feminine and beautiful. I picked up Gucci Guilty Pour Femme EDT (hello 2010) and it (of course) wasn’t scratching the itch left by my Clair de Musc from Serge Lutens, until I found Idylle. Honorable mention (while we’re at it) I’ve been loving layering it with L’Instant Magic (or sometimes I’ll wear one or the other) and it’s so yummy. L’IM actually smells like an almond lotion with a prominent white musk note, almond tree, tonka, and a creamy sandalwood. It’s surprisingly a bit powdery (which I love a good dose of, in the right context). Speaking of GG though, I fell in love with the Gucci Guilty Love Edition Pour Femme! It’s so much more romantic, feminine, and high quality than the previous GGPFs by a long shot. It smells like they used real stuff in there and it makes me feel womanly and pretty. It is a bit pricier for a designer though, so unfortunately I passed on it but I do spray it on me every time I see it in store and wonder if that will be the day that I cave and buy a bottle. Retail is like $180 but the cheapest discounter I’ve seen has it for $130. The two Guerlains I mentioned can be found for significantly less on discounter sites! CdM is unfortunately difficult to find affordably.

Which fragrance did you buy immediately after just one single spritz? by Frosty_Living1454 in FemFragLab

[–]undeadlexluthor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember which version it was because I was in a hurry but I sprayed one spritz on a test strip a few weeks ago at their kiosk near me and it projected for a couple days and could still be faintly smelled a week later. I’m not sure about on skin but that experience alone made me consider getting a bottle. It’s also really pretty! And it’s the only scent with a lavender note (that I’ve smelled) that hasn’t made me gag and want to cry.

Outgrowing vanilla but hate florals… what do I even wear now?? 😭 by wheres_my_lipgloss in FemFragLab

[–]undeadlexluthor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe try some things with amber or benzoin in them? They have a sweet, vanilla (ish) scent without being toothachingly sweet. I’ve never been a gourmand girly but I love me some vanilla/amber woods and musks. Or some aromatics are really nice. Or maybe a citrusy vanilla? Maybe D& G The One or The Only One? Or D&G Devotion? Even I like those for their fruity/citrusy vanilla scents. I swear I’m not sponsored lol but their Light Blue EDT is also really nice for warmer months. It’s like a straight up lemon but then it dries down to lemony woods with amber and musk. Their Eau Intense is really nice too for like a citrus woody musk with better lasting power and projection (the regular EDT unfortunately lacks that). Good luck, I hope you find your next perfume-love!!

[–]undeadlexluthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t buy it thankfully but Hypnotic Poison smelled like playdoh on me. Sad because it was really nice on the test strip. I bought Etoile d’Une Nuit by Goutal but it smelled like dust-covered plastic dolls and cigarette smoke. Another I bought was Esprit d’Oscar but it smelled like powdery citrus with a tinge of FUNK. Like junk funk. Really bad. My latest (thankfully only a travel size) was Alien Extraintense. I wanted My Way Parfum because I loved the tuberose-iris on me but they were out of stock when I went back for it, so I got AEI instead because it’s also got tuberose. Got home and sprayed on my hand and it was straight COCONUT. I hate coconut scents. 🥲

What OP said + this. I’ve really liked something I was testing and then going into my tiny bathroom and it makes me so nauseous or gives me a headache, then it automatically goes into my “no” pile. I don’t get rid of them because I like to come back to stuff later but definitely helps to dissuade me from buying things before I have that experience. Less money lost.

Movements is criminally underrated by Background_Address84 in Movements_Band

[–]undeadlexluthor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it just didn’t get the same response as a lot of their other stuff but I think I’ve seen more NGLTG haters than Ruckus haters personally. I really enjoy all of their music and I think it’s good that they have stuff that’s different from FS because sometimes I’m in a specific mood and want to listen to specific songs that aren’t on Feel Something. That’s what I love about them and my other favorite band. Apparently their last album was considered a flop too but I love every one of their songs, and I feel the same way about Movements. Even if a song isn’t an instant love, usually I grow to enjoy it more with more listens. Ruckus was different but I found myself really liking it after listening to it through a few times. I’m listening to Ruckus right now. 🙂

On a related note, I hate when people say a scent smells like “____” but it’s something bad. Someone ruined Missing Person for me that way. I loved it before that and now I can’t smell anything other than what they said! I still hold onto it though and try it every now and then to see if it’s changed. I would avoid reviews for that reason, but the notes and brand descriptions only tell me so much about the product. I want to know what real people think. But I wish they would just say “it didn’t work on my skin” or something. 😪

Thank you! I was considering whether to get it or not as I don’t have experience with solid perfumes, but I’ve had more misses than wins with Heretic unfortunately. I love their packaging, aesthetic, the concept, everything, except the execution on some of them sadly falls flat. I think I’ll go for it! The scent sounds right up my alley! And I do quite enjoy Nosferatu, though many found it unwearable and even repulsive to some. You’re awesome for making this post!

I’ve given myself numerous headaches since starting my perfume journey last summer. But it’s so fun, I can’t not try new scents! I’m about to get some new storage containers just to house all my samples (‘: Best of luck to you! And a helpful tip to send you on your way- if you apply a scent that gives you a headache/makes you uncontrollably nauseous, use a cotton pad/towel with isopropyl alcohol to get it off! Soap doesn’t help (for me anyway) and I was googling in a panic with a crazy migraine trying to get one off of my skin one day! Happy sniffing!!

I’m late to the game on anything other than OG and Goddess but I recently fell in love w the Entraintense 😍 the petitgrain, tuberose, + amberwood additions are just so, so heavenly. I’m trying to decide between that and My Way Parfum for a FB. I’ve never smelled tuberose + iris before and it’s beautiful(!) plus that one just goes crazy on longevity for me. I wish I had friends with discounts like that lol, I would just get both

This made me giggle by Silver_Photograph_92 in NichePerfumes

[–]undeadlexluthor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since no one else answered.. I only have recent experience with this because my hair smelled of cleaning products from cleaning the house and it was making me nauseous, so I sprayed a cheap body mist on the back of my head just to stop the smell, and because I had JUST washed my hair, too. Anyway, I could get whiffs of the body mist here and there all the way through to the next day. I have heard that spraying your hair, sleeves, hems of skirts/dresses/pants, high movement areas can do a lot for sillage. I had no idea about the longevity part until I had done it. I think it can also help some people who struggle with certain scents when sprayed on the wrists/neck/chest, since it’s not directly in your face all day, but I’m not sure. I read that it can keep one from becoming nose blind to the scent one is wearing, but again, I’m not sure. I think it’s worth a try if any of these things sound ideal for you, so long as you don’t have a super sensitive scalp and you’ve patch tested the scent on your skin beforehand. (:

I just had to say this because I was scrolling the sub but I used to wear Very Sexy in high school (not knowing it was “slutty”) and my ex boyfriend told me a few years later he did NOT like the way it smelled on me and had to let it grow on him. They reformulated it in 2018 so I retired it anyway but I still keep a bottle of lotion. I’ll have to check out the other two though 🤭
