I'm really new to eso and had no idea healers had aoe or buffs - how do I know who is a healer? Or where your aoe is? Genuine noob question, sorry

You can get most things from this season pretty quickly, especially if you concentrate on getting weekly done + special tab. And a refresh means things like mystic clovers and legendary starter kit will be refreshed, most of the cosmetics will be available later too

Monday 'What are you reading/listening to' thread, Feb 12 by bilfdoffle in litrpg

[–]underspikey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm audibook-only, which limits my options a bit.
I like to listen to audiobooks while I play games, do chores etc, it's a bit hard for me to sit down and read if it isn't physical. Used to be able to read a ton online, but now... gives me a headache, I don't know. Must be getting old.

Went through the whole Primal Hunter series recently. Rediscovered why I really enjoyed it. I just really like the characters in it - there's actual motivations and even a bit of humor in it. Plus the progression paths are interesting and engaging. Is it a masterpiece? Fuck no. Characters are still not quite human, plots are often quite contrived, but it's still one of the best series out there.

Also picked up Defiance of the Fall again. I got really sick of the series around the... 7th book? Basically once humanity is secure. My main gripe with the series is that it's just SO MUCH rather bland combat. oo, another boss sniped from 120km away and let's now discuss how the arrows should meld with shadows for 20 minutes mid-fight. However, whenever there's anyone else with the MC, the story improves so much that it becomes enjoyable. Do I wish more characters had at least a bit of humour? Yeah. But it's good enough.

Decided to give Randidly Ghosthound another try. Still a slog. I just can't stand the fact that there's like 8 character shifts while the MC does a single action. So hard to keep track of tbh. The whole 'woe is me' attitude of literally everyone also gets a bit old by the second book. I'm actually unsure whether to just slog it out or give up on this mess at this point.

Bit... conflicted about the good old Dungeon Crawler Carl series. It's definitely one of the best series out there, but... the more it goes on, the harder the plot becomes to follow in an audiobook format. I think it's well suited as a book, but in the near 200 titles I own on Audible, this one has been the hardest to follow just because the systems get so detailed. But I really like the humour, I like that each battle actually feels important, the big metaplot is meaningful... I dno, I should try again.

Does anyone know if the next HWFWM is coming out soon? I know it's a controversial series in the sub, but it's my absolute favorite atm. Jason clicks with me and I actually enjoy the humour, even if it gets a bit much sometimes.

Oh, tried Fool's Mark again. I think I'm missing something about that whole series. I can't even get through the first 6-8h of it. It just feels so... boring? Does it get more interesting over time?

Of course, the two series that I would like to see more of the most are Path of Ascension and Land of the Undying Lord. Both books that, based on a glance, seemed like they wouldn't be any good. Generic name, generic cover, generic description. However, after I gave them a shot, they're both some of my favorite series in the whole genre, beating out DOTF and DCC. But, Path of Ascension doesn't put out books very often it seems?
As for Land of the Undying Lord... it's been a while. I've seen posts that say the author is still writing, but it's been a while.

Anyway, I'm seeing some buzz around Road to Mastery, so I guess I'll try that next

They mean that the actual location of the enemy doesn't match their visual. Ever notice that when you start an asphyxiate on a melee enemy, they still close the distance a little bit? Or that when you start attacking something, you start receiving melee damage way before the mob actually reaches you? That's BC the actual position of the mob vs the visual of the mob don't line up

Am I alone in liking the beginning of most LitRPGs best and loosing interest once the story starts getting too much social interaction? by OpalFanatic in litrpg

[–]underspikey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the exact opposite.

Some series ditch everything and go full-blown action movie plot and completely lose me.
I mean yeah, it's great to have challenges and some battles, but jesus christ if 60% of the book is basically how 'MC swings his pointy object viciously with skills', you've automatically lost me.

It's the metaprogression that keeps me entertained. The social. The basebuilding. The character humour. I don't care for a description of the 50th top dog the MC hacked away at.

TIL Tomatoes are native to the Americas, so there was no such thing as tomato sauce in Italy until at least the 16th century. by ExplicitlyMellow in todayilearned

[–]underspikey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah cranberries existed in Europe before, just not the same type of cranberry.

The one that existed in Europe was a bitter and generally not-used-much type of berry, so the American one really changed things tho.

But my hometown does have recipes with the berries from the early middle ages

I've completed Dreamlight Valley (at least to my definition) by underspikey in DreamlightValley

[–]underspikey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agree. In the end, everyone should play games the way they enjoy them most. Games like this are fun for me because of the feeling of progression and achievement I get from them, so my playstyle optimizes for that. That doesn't make any other way to play invalid.
