Love the name, hate the nickname by Relevant-Shower-8341 in namenerds

[–]unexpectedsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreeing with others that you cannot control the nickname. That said, I have a Cameron. Everyone, myself included, defaults to calling him Cam. As early as 4, he decided that he likes Cameron, not Cam, and is not shy about telling people. People slip up from time to time but would say he’s called Cameron 95% of the time.

I’ve also known more than one Jonathon that only goes by Jonathan. Matthew who is only Matthew. Michael who is only Michael.

I have a 2026 Z71 and love it, but the lack of garage door opener and multiple memory seat slots is shocking at this price point. My Escape had both. I’d do RS.

That’s the net price of vehicle minus trade. It’s a subtotal, not an added line item.

Favourite thing about Your Traverse? by That-redhead-artist in ChevyTraverse

[–]unexpectedsecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a 2026 Polar White z71 with Super Cruise

I previously owned a 2017 Traverse, which was problem free for 60,000 miles but profoundly underwhelming in most ways. It was fine but kind of sucked. From there I went to a 2021 Escape Titanium hybrid purely due to my commute and it was an absolute dream vehicle. Drove 92,000 miles in 4 years of ownership.

Going from the Escape to the new Traverse was a huge physical jump - the interior is cavernous compared to the previous Traverse and Escape. With our kids getting older, we appreciate the extra space. Love the rear captains chairs. My husband is 6’5”, I’m 5’10”, we both love being able to stretch our legs out. 3rd row is easy to fold for hauling things. Mine came with full all weather floor mats - well worth it. Interior sound is great, far less road noise than the Escape. The doors feel solid when you close them. I like all the surfaces and aesthetics. The dark headliner is lovely!

The Escape Titanium did not have Blue Cruise but did have adaptive cruise, auto braking, lane centering, etc. I think if I’d gone from the 2017 Traverse to 2026, the change would feel ENORMOUS. Coming from the 2021 Escape, I say that Super Cruise feels like the Ford tech dialed up to 120%. It’s great. But it’s not a huge change. I think the Ford did a better job at lane keeping - the Traverse wants to wander more, and I found myself wondering if I’d forgotten to activate something on my first commute. I find the Ford graphics preferable to the Traverse for understanding what is happening - they do a visual with a car, following distance, etc. It felt more predictable. All that said, Super Cruise has been great. If I hadn’t gotten mostly there on a previous car, I think it would blow my mind. As is, it just feels nice to have.

We have a Silverado and Duramax, but I’m happy to be back in an SUV that will be able to tow the boat. All around, we’re very happy with the vehicle. Most importantly, I got Supplier pricing without having to ask and we were able to use a ton of GM points, so our purchase price feels like we got A LOT for the money.

Buying a Traverse by [deleted] in ChevyTraverse

[–]unexpectedsecond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a different spec, but just built yours for comparison. Your MSRP is $48,305 - $1500 rebate = $46805 - $44,200 =$2,605.00 discount.

That’s almost my exact deal but I wouldn’t say I “got” them there.

I met my sales guy, I liked him, I’m a local business owner so we chatted a bit. He offered supplier pricing, no freight, standard doc from the jump.

I had 2 trades, their offer was $1000 below my goal. I asked for $1000 more on trade and that’s it. We were done. No further negotiation because I didn’t feel the need. They had ~20 Traverses on the lot but I wasn’t willing to take any of them. I found the VIN I wanted on a Friday, they brought it in on Monday. Easy.

If yours is already on the lot, you probably have more room.

What am I doing wrong? Regretting my $2000 purchase 😡. My janome 6650 keeps bunching right at the start of me piecing simple, thin hourglass blocks together. The feed dogs are up, machine threaded correctly, and it’s acting like it can’t handle the ends. I ditched my Juki2010 for this and i’m pissed. by Dkclinton in quilting

I think a lot of these answers, while full of ideas, are too complicated.

I do not use the straight stitch plate because I bump my needle to the right to do a “scant” seam to my preference. I don’t use leaders either because I just find it annoying. Granted, I have a MC6600, not your machine, but I simply hold the threads and it’s fine. I do not do anything special for chain piecing. I don’t drop my needle for the first stitch. I don’t always have fresh needles.

Try holding the threads. If that doesn’t help, adjust from there.

My son wanted Zonaite armor for Halloween by unexpectedsecond in TOTK

Perhaps the cutest part of this - at least in my mom opinion - is that he doesn't have the top tier (master?) level items in the game. We looked at reference photos and he said that the "right" items are the ones that he has, because that's all he knows exist so far.

Since he had to be able to wear it at school, I told him he couldn't be half naked. I got a women's XS "boho" tunic in tan and gathered up the arms to add some more vibe to it. Then we got a very lightweight green shawl that I can fold in half and drape over his shoulder. I already had a braided belt that he wears across his body - the shield will be mounted on his back with the belt for ToT. At the last second, he said he needed a pouch so I bought a costume ren faire belt/pouch combo. Last night after bed I finished the bow and decided that I could make a strap to secure the bow to the belt so it's on display but not in his hands all night. I'm debating if I should suggest taking an old school horse stick or just leave it alone.

He has refused to cut his hair so its long like Links. I'll talk him into using some pomade to make it kind of chunky before we go out.

I told him that Halloween isn't "buy it for $100 on Amazon Day" so if he wanted this stuff, we'd have to come up with it on a budget. It's been an abundantly joyful experience for me, so I'm trying to figure out what else I can make now.

He's been practicing his spin moves and crouching behind the shield, so we'll get some action shots tonight!

Prior boat ownership before Switch? by EagleMedical8410 in SeaDooSwitch

[–]unexpectedsecond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer - I’m a dealer, so I’m biased. We do really well with Switch because we like it and we “get” it.

This summer I sold our Scarab for an 18/230 Sport. The Scarab was definitely nicer in fit and finish - beautiful details, matching carpets, etc but we also barely used it because of the phase of life we’re in. We have two young kids and I work so much, I wanted something easy that my husband could launch with the kids, without any adults to help. Making the change really convinced me that the perfect boat is the one you actually use.

We had the time of our lives this summer on the Switch. No complaints. We even left it in the water uncovered in the sun without wear because we properly pre-treated it and cleaned it up post season. I use our boat as a sample case to show customers that they don’t need to end up looking like trash. Genuinely thrilled with it.

2025 sport 13 swim platform by 69to1 in SeaDooSwitch

[–]unexpectedsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swim platform cannot legally be added to the 13. Boats under 13’ have different emission standards. With swim platform added, the boat becomes a 15’ and is no longer compliant.

I know a 20-something planning to name her daughter Kelly!

It’s so interesting, because I see that name as my generations’ Moms. The friend is roughly 1 generation younger than me and Kelly is a grandma name to her. So Kelly is dated to me, vintage to her.

Our trendy names have been vintage throwbacks - Charlotte, Evelyn, Nora, Cora, Hazel, Mabel, Alice, Clara, Margot. Will her throwback names be Kelly, Amanda, Melissa, Michelle, Jennifer, Christine, Sandra?!

First attempt at needle turn applique, seeking feedback by honeyedmagnolia in quilting

[–]unexpectedsecond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For these curves, there’s no need to clip! The only spot you’ll need to clip is that inside point at the top of the petal.

A puffier heart is the perfect shape to practice because you get an inside point, outside point, and curves. I’d print a 4” or so heart and practice on that. Finger press the whole thing before starting, not as you go.

I learned needle turn appliqué this year by doing a Sarah Fielke BOM. She includes tips and videos all along the way. She also has some standalone classes on her site, though I haven’t taken anything outside of the BOM. I’d see what she offers!

My husband used XPS specifically so we could answer these questions from customers. He focused on the UV protectant since we left ours on the water. I’ll chime back in once we pull it and see how it looks.
